Josh and Anna Duggar baby name

Reported by People magazine. Anna is due Oct. 20, 2009 and they have decided to name the baby Mackynzie Renée. They say they're not sure yet if they are going to go with the M theme like Josh's parents did with the Js.

Why would they spell it like that MACK makes me think of a boy....

I can't stand it when parents throw their own twist into the spelling of a name AND think it is so unique....then the child, for the rest of their lives HAS TO EXPLAIN IT. Speaking from experience, my DSis did that with her DD.

I do like McKenzie Renee....just the spelling.

I was hoping that trend was on its way out.

The name is ok, though not one I'd choose (I went to college with a gorgeous boy named MacKenzie and he went by Kenzie), but the spelling is horrible.

Do you think they're going for the pronounciation to be "Mah kin zee" and not "Mah ken zee" or "Mic ken zee" like the traditional pronounciations?

I'm not a fan of the spelling either, but I can understand where they may be coming from since it took us until DD was a day old to figure out how to spell her name since it has several ways of being spelled. I can imagine that if they wanted a different pronounciation, they had a tough time coming up with the spelling of the name.

This being Arkansas, I really don't think that there is any discernible difference between the way the family would pronounce mah-kin-zee vs. mah-ken-zee; with an Arkansas accent those two are essentially the same.

I hadn't thought about the accent! They do sound exactly the same in that case.

I like the name but hate the spelling. We are not fans of non-traditional spellings. Our naming rules for DS were that : 1) must be able to tell if the child is a boy or girl by the name 2)must know right away how to spell it when it's heard. DS is named Nathan.

Bleh. I wish parents would stop with the unique spellings. It's not cute, it's not special, it's just irritating. I just met an "Aaimee" the other day. Why?! It's like the parents had a particular fondness for vowels. What is the point of the second "a" anyway??

Not crazy about the name, and really don't like the spelling, but she isn't my baby, so I don't get to choose. I really like old fashioned names.

People think I have a "different" spelling to my name and call me Susan and obviously it isn't Susan. I just say, that is my aun't s name is Susan, not mine. Suzanne was a more unusual name when I was born though.
