For those of you working at WDW now, either in a CP or as a regular CM, does it seem like the majority of people working there FT started in the CP?

I graduated college June '08 and am living/working in NYC doing wardrobe and assistant costume design on Broadway and Off-Broadway. I'd love to relocate to Florida and work in the Creative Costuming Department or the Design and Development Department, but have had a hard time finding much info on hiring in costuming other than for the CP. If I didn't get my foot in the door at Disney while in college am I out of luck now?

I know there is a hold on hiring right now--it seems like that's everywhere, not just Disney, due to the economy--but any advice in general would be great.

Thanks!

I know a ton of people who are FT now that started as a CP, one of my managers in fact! I myself plan on doing the PI once I graduate and then immediately switch to FT if my plans go accordingly.

You don't have to be a CP to become a FT. I most of the people I know that work down there were never CPs. As you know they have a hiring freeze at disney right now. I heard from one of my friends that they might lift the freeze in March or April for a little bit.

I am sure that you know about this site already but if you are still looking to do costume stuff in the theater you can always look at backstagejobs.com to get some work now untill disney opens up again.

This is true, however I believe it'll be easier to land a FT job right now (with the state of the economy) if you had participated in the CP or PI...
It's never too late to participate in the CP or PI...

You'll of course have to enroll in college - were you thinking about grad school?

If not, it's definitely not impossible to get a FT position at WDW, you'd have to be put on the waiting list, however... and nobody can tell how long it'll be for. But keep in mind - you've got Broadway experience! That can look like a piece of gold on a resumé.

Good luck!
