Justice can be served in many ways. How is justice served when the guilty spend decades on death row? marybet said:I was going to vote until I saw the choices. If the death penalty is supposed to be a deterrent (I don't think it is) than we should kill the guilty in the same manner that they killed their victim.

I totally agree with this idea!!! I think killing lets people out far too easy (and I do believe in an after life). I always say they should suffer in prison while working for the state in such a way that they are not a tax burdon to anyone. Suffer and work your butt off for the rest of your life. I think that would be *far* more fair than letting them die and not have to deal with inmates and maybe any guilt they will evenetually feel for what they did wrong.MosMom said:I didn't vote because I wouldn't kill him but I'm not a bleeding heart. I'm opposed to the death penalty for other reasons. I think it is more of a punishment to put a child murderer/rapist in a general population prison and let nature take its course. Putting him to sleep (a privilege we don't even give our suffering good citizens) is WAY too easy.

I don't really believe in an after-life and I think that once you're dead, where is the punishment? You're dead. Big deal. That is getting off easy compared to a life in prison.
