Jon and Kate Plus 8. Official Thread!!

Ok, as I've said before, I've stopped watching the show. For some crazy reason I still read this thread occasionally though. Anyway, While my daughter was flipping the channeles around the other day, she stopped at JK8 to watch the girls swimming in a pool. From what I gathered from the small amount I watched, it was Beth and Bobs place. I really haven't seen many shows, but I was like    What do those people do for a living? That was the nicest house! and the view!

Are they still friends with Beth and Bob? Or is that another relationship squashed by the show?
If I remember correctly, I believe that Bob is a mall planner/developer in the NY/NJ/PA area. They have mentioned that Beth was/is an interior decorator. Kate made some comments about it on the IKEA episode.

Their house is unbelievable. When they did the photo shoot there and showed the property :scared1: No wonder Kate has her sights set high on their property search. You know, you need to keep up with the Jones'.

I thought about Kate today when I went to the grocery store.
I saw *Organic Ice Cream Cones!*. :scared1:

I just think she goes overboard with the organic stuff. It's good that she's possibly trying to keep the kids healthy, but some times I feel like she goes a little far with it. At our age (30 something), we know we had all those foods that were not organic, and we haven't died yet from not eating organic.
I especially think of it when I see the episode where Jon says he gave them lollipops, and she says "Were they organic?" :rolleyes1

So if something doesn't immediately kill you, it must be OK?
Why are organic icecream cones scary?

In what episode is the fancy house you all are talking about? I didn't see it in the last episode where they are camping in the backyard.

It's the 4th of July episode from a couple years ago. You can also see it in the family photo shoot episode. Beth and Bob do not live in the same neighborhood as J&K.

LOVE that house! So nice...

Well I do sort of agree that many people lived long healthy lives long before "organic" became so popular. That being said, I don't think there is anything wrong at all with those who do choose to eat all or some of the food organically. DSIL buys some items organic and some not...it's her choice. And many people I know have eaten nothing but organic, but then stopped because it got too expensive. However, they also said they felt really good when they were eating organic.

Sorry to imply that I think organic ice cream cones are scary, but I didn't have a smilie icon for "OMG, come on now!"

I think the organic thing is fine, but if I ate organic, I wouldn't refer to everything I describe as organic. "Organic lollipop, organic fluff, etc."
Her juicy juice isn't organic, but I guess she allows that only beacuse it brings in part of her income.

When Kate does her whole "organic" this and "organic" that she sounds a bit condescending - like she is better than anyone else who doesn't feed their kids organic only foods and that part irks me. I could care less what anyone else does or eats but don't tell me what to do or how to raise my kids.

We don't go out of our way to eat organic foods. The only things I can even think of that are in our house right now that are organic are some toddler snacks for DS that I honestly only bought becaue the Sesame Street characters were on the box. DS likes the snacks so I will buy them for him since they are healthy and nutritious but the fact that they are "organic" doesn't make a bit of difference to me.

DD14 had a teacher in middle school that told the students that HFCS and any artificial additives were evil and parents that fed those to their children were committing child abuse. :sad2: While the overuse of such chemicals does have harmful effects I don't think it was that teacher's right to tell my child that my letting her drink Minute Maid lemonade (loaded with HFCS) or eat fruit roll-ups (loaded with artificial colors and additives) was abuse. Some people are just over the top with this stuff.

IF Kate is preaching organic this and organic that, she's being a bit hypocritical because they truly don't eat 100% organic all the time. Not even in one day I'm sure.

Again, I don't care who eats organic, if you eat somethings organic and not others. But do what you want to do without throwing it in other people's faces (like kate sometimes sounds).

I agree.

I've said it before but I'll say it again since it seems that no one want to believe it:

Juciy Juice is all natural. 99% of the time the only way to get all natural "junk" food is to buy organic. non-organic lollipops are usually nothing more than HFCS and chemcals/artifical ingredients.
Kate appears to be more concerned wiht avoiding artificial ingredients, "cheap fillers", HFCS etc.

All natural does not mean organic....

I googled the ingredients for juicy juice grape juice and this is what I came up with:

Ingredients:

Apple Juice, Grape Juice, and Pear Juice (Water, Juice Concentrates), Natural Flavors, Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C), Citric Acid.

I have to agree that natural is not organic. However it does seem that juicy juice is a much better option than other juices out there.

Kate never talks about limiting sugar. As a matter of fact she seems to fill her kids with simple carbs, especially from the juice sippy after juice sippy we see them with. Do they drink milk or water? She only talks about organic, which does not mean healthy. It means grown without chemical pesticides, fungicides or fertilizers.

An organic lollipop still has little to no nutritional value with about 17g of sugar. She thinks organic means healthy as was illustrated in the WDW episode when they took "lots of vitamins and medicine" since they would be eating "garbage." Then all got "sick from not eating organic." Does she know that medicine is all chemical?

She is misinformed it appears about hygeine and nutrition! Have you ever heard her say, "wash up, it is time to eat?" I won't start on the potty chairs...everywhere and throwing up in pans instead of a flushing toilet and dirty fingernails!... and Jon scubbing pee out of the floor of the van, and, and...! I know, I know, kids can't always make it to the toilet...

I love those kids! :)

Mind you I am not an organic expert by any stretch of the word. And I usually only buy organic when I find a food that I like and can only be bought at a health food store. But I thought it would be interesting to compare the ingredients for newman-o's which are organic and classic oreo cookies.

Ingredients for Newman-O's (organic oreo type cookies)
Original:
Organic Unbleached Flour, Organic Sugar, Powdered Sugar, Organic Palm Oil, Canola Oil (Expeller Pressed), Organic Cocoa, Cocoa (Processed with Alkali), Organic Unsweetened Chocolate, Natural Flavor, Salt, Sodium Bicarbonate, Soy Lecithin, (an Emulsifier)

Ingredients for Oreos:
Ingredients: SUGAR, ENRICHED FLOUR (WHEAT FLOUR, NIACIN, REDUCED IRON, THIAMINE MONONITRATE [VITAMIN B1], RIBOFLAVIN [VITAMIN B2], FOLIC ACID), HIGH OLEIC CANOLA OIL AND/OR PALM OIL AND/OR CANOLA OIL, COCOA (PROCESSED WITH ALKALI), HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP, BAKING SODA, CORNSTARCH, SALT, SOY LECITHIN (EMULSIFIER), VANILLIN-AN ARTIFICIAL FLAVOR, CHOCOLATE.

I've been following this thread for a long time now. I agree that Kate is nuts. Now if I had 8 kids I would probably be nuts too, but in my opinion there is probably some medication that could help her relax. God knows she needs SOMETHING! I don't think she's a horrible person but she's uptight to start with and she is overwhelmed with too many kids. Yes other people have even more kids but their personalities and lifestyles can handle it. I don't have 8 because I couldn't handle 8!!! :rotfl:

Very good point...while organic can have its benefits healthwise, it typically containts the same amounts of calories, fat and sugar that are in similar non-organic items.

If it says 100% juice whether it is store brand or Juicy Juicy, the only other additions are water and vitamin C. Fruit juice is just not very nutritious, except orange, in comparison to whole fruit.

All of us with kids have been told for years to limit (especially apple) to practically none. My pediatrician and especially dentist were/are adament about milk and water being much better choices. :confused3

I don't doubt that is true. But she focuses so much on the organic part, that message gets lost. And she comes off as condescending when she talks about the organic food. She's no better than me - she simply makes different choices about what she feeds her family.
