Jon and Kate Plus 8. Official Thread!!

The camping episode was so good. They all really seemed to have a great time and in spite of the rain Kate stayed with it even though she was wet in the tent. Course the next morning she did say that there was a reason why we sleep in houses. I don't blame her on that one though, I hate camping in the rain.

We go camping at least once a year and our kids just love it and always have. We also do the backyard camp-out at least twice a year and have an in-ground fire pit that we do camp fires all the time on. It is always a blast just sitting around the fire talking.

I loved watching how much the kids enjoyed the smores. Too Cute!!

Their backyard is HUGE!!! Looks like a great space. Why do the kids always play on the driveway or in the garage?

I also enjoyed this episode. I was really surprised because this is the only episode I've seen where Mady is actually pretty quiet and not being bratty.
It looks like Kate may be chilling out and letting the kids do fun & messy things more.

What I didn't really like was the part where Jon started talking & Kate says something like "You just ramble on and on." Anytime he talks on their interview chair, she bashes him and puts him down. She needs to give him a chance to participate in the discussions.

I thought it was a great episode. It was nice to see that even Kate enjoyed it. The kids were so cute with the smores. :) We used to go camping all the time when I was younger and it was fun, though my parent's idea of "roughing it" was hilarious because we would bring a TV, VCR, microwave, practically everything but the kitchen sink. LOL

it has been speculated that the kids do play in the backyard, but that's more like their safe place (camera free) or something? I don't know if that's true or not, though.

I am waiting for the episode for him to say "do you realize how overbearing you are?"*although I am hoping he uses other words than those polite ones.

I definitely think viewer's comments are being read by TLC. The fact that Kate "all of a sudden" can handle messes and even camping makes me think something is up. I enjoyed the camping episode and even the kids seem happier when they are allowed to get a little messy and just have fun and be kids. I still love Kate...she handles 8 kids better than most and Jon...well, he's a saint...lol...the way he worked and worked to set up all those tents made me like him even more! :happytv:

I think you're right. They even went as far as to mention paying for stuff and showed John using a credit card at Dick's Sporting Goods. I did notice that Dick's was the locale, but not a product sponsor. All of the brands were blurred out.

I don't know that I'd elevate him to Saint status, but he sure does a lot of work around the house. They both do!

lol True...lots of work even with my small family, so I can't imagine all they have to do! I can't even keep up with laundry with the three of us...lol

I was shocked that Kate let them make smores. Maybe she didn't see the marshmallow that got in the kids hair.

I did notice that credit card pass to the clerk, and he was covering it up. I said to my DH that it was probably a TLC CC that they could spend as much as they like. Loved this episode, was a little slow at the beginning though, but loved it once it got dark and they were having a blast.

Very cute episode!

I'm sooooo with Kate on the whole "camping" thing!:scared: We camp out in our family room - that's as far as I'll take it!

Ok - so did anyone notice the t-shirt Kate was wearing during the interview portions? What was on it? It looked to me like a big head that had a piece of tape across it's mouth. I find myself looking for these little signs that indicate Jon and Kate are aware of all of this internet talk about them; am wondering if the t-shirt was some type of response. (or am I just reading too much into it?)

I don't know if they have another reason, but part of it is probably because the toys are all in the garage and some of them are ride-on toys that can only be used in the driveway. When my kids were young they played in the front yard all the time even though we have a big backyard. It was easier to just open the garage where all the toys are kept.

I enjoyed the show too! So nice to see them back at home for a change.

They spent a LOT of money for a backyard camp out, esp. if Kate is not a camper (meaning they probably won't go "real" camping in the future.)

We can bet they didn't pay for this stuff! She's not a camper and the producers came up with this as "an adventure at home." Coleman was a fairly prominent sponsor, this brand was not blurred out.

Why was the inside of the tent wet? I have two Boy Scouts, a Cub Scout and an assistant Scout Master/Den leader and they stay dry in their Colemans!

Very different side of Kate last night to me. Did you notice they voiced over her fussing at Jon (in Dick's when they had the bleeding lip) with the couch interview? I thought it was a cute episode, and the kids had a lot of fun obviously.

I'm certainly not a camper, but I've heard that if you touch the inside of your tent, it leaks at that point. I would think that a bunch of kids would have touched the inside of the tent a lot. (Maybe even Kate, since she's not a camper.)

I thought Kate was pretty darned calm with the biting the glow sticks thing. Maybe they were organic glow sticks.;)

We have friends that live in PA and they are not allowed fences in their community. Maybe that's why the kids play in the driveway. It may be easier to say you can't leave the driveway. I know at our friend's house all the backyards are open to eachother and kids just run from house to house to swing set to swing set. That could be difficult with 6 little ones. Not sure if they have fences or not. I didn't see the episode yet.

We had a pop-up camper when I was young and it was canvas. We were always told not to touch the canvas in the rain because it would leak. My mom doesn't know that we ALWAYS touched the canvas during the rain storms. We never had a leak that I can remember.
