Don't know why I was thinking there hasn't been any new episodes. Guess this head cold nad ear infection have gotten the best of me. I've been hazy all day.

I get your point, and it all very well may be true. However I doubt that is all of it. I think a lot of it has to do with the speculations/questions etc coming up around Beth, Jodi, if they are moving etc. There are a lot of questions out there that people are looking for answers to.

True about the book too. $$ is $$ whether a fan a basher, or someone in the middle buys the book.

My one little "nit pick" is if they are behind some of the bad publicity, why does it seem they are doing just the oppisite on the show?
IE....They've pretty much stopped showing bathroom shots (IMHO I was shocked there wasn't one in the episode where someone pooped in the little potty). why does it seem that Kate is trying to make an effort to step outside of her comfort zone etc?
However OTOH I guess the arguemnt could be made that they are hyping up or allowing the negative so that people who tune in will really notice the changes

I wouldn't think the family has anything to do with the publicity. I'd imagine it's the production co. Of course, the production co. also has the last word on what makes it into the final product, so you could be right in your last thought.

That was the other thing I was going to mention. In the article that was re-mentioned a bit ago, it was said that Kate wanted to have final say before publication. When you agree to an interview with the media, you agree to let them print/broadcast whatever they want as long as it's truthful. The reporter can't promise to make them look a certain way or let them approve the end product. Figure 8 may have the same stipulations in its contract, as well. So, for example, when the camera person zoomed in on the little plumber trunks (that someone mentioned earlier), the family may not have been able to nix the shot. The "I can't believe they let them show that" moments may be out of their control. I have no idea what their contract entails, so that is total speculation on my part.

Several years ago we all decided to audition for American Idol just for the fun of it. In order to audition, our contract explicitly stated they could use our image without compensation to promote the show in any way. Again, I have no idea what is in the JK8 contract, but don't forget that there is also an editor who decides what does and does not end up on TLC.

I studied photo/videojournalism and mass comm law (since public relations is a part of the journalism college) very recently, so all of that mess is fresh in my mind.

that's true! books like The Last Lecture come to mind. I know that Randy Pausch died recently, which is why it's popular now ... but it's the kind of book that has legs. It has advice that will be relevant in a year or 5 years. I hope it isn't on a bargain rack some day... I liked what that guy had to say.

The sale started today. This weekend I worked the drop-off and volunteer and consigner pre-sale. I made $130 yesterday, and that's about half of what I spent during the pre-pre-sale (getting kind of ridiculous there, huh?!). If I sell everything, I stand to make about $800. Then I have to find more stuff for the JBF in our city next month (this one is about 30 minutes away, but it's run by the same lady). It's all going into the Disney Fund for our December trip!!

I'll have to check it out. I do love to peruse the bargain books, though! I find a lot of vacuous chick lit for under $5 a pop.

So this post is sort of on topic, does anyone watch Take Home Nanny before JK8? I used to love Nanny 911 when it was new, but I never know when or what channel it's on these days.

My consignment sale is going into our vacation account, too ... I haven't even begun the task of entering items to see what I can make. I have less stuff to sell, but it's better quality. I hope to come home with $$ and not much stuff left over.

The Last Lecture is on YouTube - I think the book is a little more in depth. It's about an hour long .. but worth a watch.

yes and no. The sales we're talking about are twice yearly. Sellers prep (wash, tag, etc) and price their own items and earn anywhere from 50-60-70-80% of what they sell. There are presales for workers, sellers, etc. These sales are often run through MOPS or other parent support groups, but not always.

I just wanted to say that I completely agree with Kate about the whole hermit crab issue. UGH! If I had to see their legs start falling off, I would be completely skivved! And no, I wouldn't want one in my freezer mixing with my food either.

I guess painting their shells poisons them? I know nothing about hermit crabs. I have cats, and they seem to be a lot sturdier.

I LOVE this show, I find find it highly entertaining and have watched from the very beginning. I don't/won't pass judgement because I don't live their life. I have noticed one thing that sort of bothers me though. I feel like Kate doesn't show the boys as much affection/attention as the girls. I realize the show is heavily edited but it was just something that I noticed. For example, when the girls were making the cake, the boys weren't allowed to help because of dirty hands and nails? They could have washed their hands and helped. Also, when they did the individual days out, did you notice that Kate went with Jon on every single girls day out but not 1 of the boys days out? I am in know way saying that she ignores them our doesn't love them, it was just simply an observation. Am I nuts or does anyone else agree?
