Jon and Kate Plus 8. Official Thread!!

Thank guys for the distraction from having to clean my house!! :rotfl2:

First post on the thread here... just wanted to say, I was first drawn to the show because my kids look a LOT like J&K's kids (amerasian). Plus my middle daughter is about the twins' age and our youngest is 4 like the tups.

Just wanted to say, I have completely lost respect for J & K (esp Kate). There's a bible verse that makes me think of them now every time I read it... and folks, you don't have to be a Christian for this to have meaning to you:

"What good is it to gain the whole world if you lose your own soul?" Matthew 16:26

LOL.... What is so funny is what started the discussion. She has one child in PS and one child that she home schools. The conversation started after she commented about the PS teacher's accent confusing her DD when they moved here from California. She made some mention about teachers should be educated enough to not have an accent and said something about there not being an accent in CA. I mentioned the way she mispronounced some words and she agreed it was a S CA regional "thing" but refused to say it was an accent LOL. Oh and she agreed that her teachers and her DD's teacher in S CA also that the "thing" but that of course everyone there knew the right way to say the words, they just didn't do it out of habit. I asked her how was that any different than a southern accent. Somehow we then got on the subject of people throwing radom u's into words or uing re instead of er.

 It's always funny to see how people perceive different regional accents. I'm always amazed by it... all southerner's are dumb and I have quite the Brooklyn accent so my last name must be Soprano ;)

They had breathing problems and Alexis and Collin both had physical therapy as babies through Easter Seals. Plus, at the moment their fine motor skills are behind other 4 yr olds due to Kate not letting them do crafts and learn to use scissors and they all aren't speaking as clearly as their sisters were at age 4.

I read back a little, and found your post.

CCLover, if you are so concerned about exploiting children, why are you posting Alexis and Collin's personal issues on a message board? These issues were not disclosed to the public before (as far as I know). To me, this is exploiting Alexis and Collin for the express purpose of "getting back" at Kate.

If I had to guess, I'd say you are Jodi's sister.

LOL..... Yes those are funny, but there is one that makes me furious.
I can't stand it when someone will say that anyone African American sounds "white" or sounds "educated" if they don't speak in ebonics.
I just want to slap people who make ignorant comments like that.

Do you have a favourite? Or "favorite" for you Americans? I'm not sure I do because they all have their ways.

They certainly are cute. Earlier in the last thread many were saying that none of them look like Kate. I think Collin looks exactly like Kate.

There is something unique and endearing about each one of them. My son's favorite is Aaden and my daughter's favorite is Hannah. I think they are all just precious, don't really have favorites myself.

In her defense, I seem to recall seeing in one of the shows discussion about the breathing treatments some of the kids had to do daily. I remember thinking about it recently, and since I had not seen them take treatments in current shows, I wondered if they were just not showing them anymore, or if they no longer needed them.

Long story short, I think that was public knowledge.

there are those of us who just watch the show for the kids and really don't care about their salary, houses, product placements, trips, etc. No, I don't think the kids are being exploited. And yes, I think if Kate can ride this bandwagon and make money to support her family, why not?

Every time I read posts (not only here) after a show airs, I always wonder how I missed so much. Honestly, I watch the show for entertainment and I love seeing the kids. As far as the product placement goes, advertisers would hate me. :rotfl: With the exception of the Juicy Juice, I would never even know about the other things if I didn't read it on various message boards. I guess I don't watch close enough.

The double standard goes both ways. Apparently to some people it's not OK to post anything good about Jon and Kate without it being perceived as them personally attacking the original poster, or living in a "Pollyanna world" (ugh, I hate that term ). When the anti-Jon and Kate crowd posts something, the pro-crowd is going to respond. It also happens the other way though... when the pro-J&K crowd posts something, and anti-crowd responds. It goes back and forth. Sure when someone posts something horrible about the Gosselins people want to know where it comes from and how they know. That's no worse than when someone posts something good about the show and other posters chime in with, "What?! How dare you participate in the exploitation of those kids... there's nothing good about them!" It's the same thing!

I was posting on another board and as soon as I said something positive about the family I was accused of being Jon or Kate or someone that worked for them. That's what annoys me more than anything else. I don't care if people don't like the show and I don't care if people hate Kate, but I am interested to know how/where they get their information. It just seems pointless to me to post random crap about people to support the cause.

Stories like the poster that have had experiences with Kate are a totally different thing than the people that post the petty comments. Those are the ones that make me wonder why people watch the show if they don't like it. I don't care if they watch, but I'm just curious to know why if you have to nit-pick at every little thing, do you waste your time.

It may totally be that it is coming off wrong because I am reading it and not hearing you talk. That sometimes happens in the cyber world. Things read differently than you meant. What I am "Wowing" about is your tone. It just sounds like you are so PO'ed about this playground thing and really took it personal. :confused3 It surprises me that you can't see this from a different perspective. I'm sure they didn't ask you to leave because you "could have possibly contaminated their perfect shot".

now, see ... THIS is what I find so fascinating and tricky about the internet (and this thread)! I didn't get that impression at all - I read the tone very differently.

generaly if a production company is filming in any location they have to have the permission of whomever has ownership or managment over that place. in the case of publicly owned lands a permit is usualy required granting permission and outlining what restrictions the municipality does and does not place on the filming. in some places the public can only be kept out or away from an area if the production company goes to the expense of renting out the space for a period of time (if it's even available to do this-some publicly held lands prohibit it). with a privatly owned place it can be whatever terms the owners or managment enter into with the production company so sometimes you may go somewhere and an area is roped off or you are put on notification via signs that if you enter a given area filming is being done and if you do not wish to be filmed you must not enter those areas.

I've been at WDW more than once and seen signs like that!

I remember seeing the 'tups getting breathing treatments, but I never remember it being said that any of them were delayed in their fine motor skills.

Now that they are known, who knows how many crazies she has to watch out for? Some crazy parents will make their kids talk to her kids just so the parents can get close to them. Or how about if a kid was to repeat a nasty comment their parent said to one of the Gosselin kids? She really has to be careful and selective with who she allows her kids to talk to, that's the point I am trying to make.

Right, but that is part and parcel of being the "stars" of a reality show :confused3 I think that this is hard to understand for many of us...so many parents are concerned these days about putting their kids names on a backpack, not putting pictures of their kids online...so to see someone really putting their kids' private lives out there (their tantrums, punishments, their bath times, the kids using the potty, the poor little boy whose bathing suit kept falling down and they showed it  ) I think a lot of us don't understand why the parents would want to do it. (Well, yeah, of course the whole money thing!)

Jon and Kate seem to like that viewers send them things/gifts for the kids-I guess they are willing to accept the "crazies" along with the adoring fans! I could not believe that on the Christmas episode Kate said a viewer contacted them about sending gifts. I thought for sure Kate would tell the viewer to donate the toys to a toy drive or something. But no, she accepted the toys and said "who are we to say no." Um, the parents? Also, I don't know how much they make, but don't you think it is a lot more than most of their viewers earn?

I will say that all this background stuff has kind of tarnished the show for me. My DDs and I love to watch it together and they still enjoy it. I feel like Jon and Kate have seemed kind of subdued on the last few epidodes though.

oh, I think all the little ones are pretty darn cute ... Kate & Jon made beautiful children, that's for sure!

On one of the episodes Kate said the kids were just getting over an illness and they needed the nebulizer treatments because preemies often have issues when they get sick and giving them the treatment helps.

Kate admitted that it was her fault that the kids were having difficulty with things like cutting because she didn't allow them to use scissors when she should have.

I was just going to post that - that was from the Crayola FActory episode, right?

LOL...that reminds me of them arguing on the show over who was Asian and it seemed that most of the kids agreed that one of the sept girls (Leah?)wasn't.

.

I think Alexis is the non Asian one!! :lmao:

No I think it was from the episode where Jon cooked dinner. Kate had 4 of the little ones at home because Jon took two with him. They were at the table in the kitchen and she was helping Leah (I think) cut and she had to show her how to correctly hold the scissors.

We laughed when we saw that episode because when my oldest dd started preschool she was "deficient" in scissor use. The teacher told me she had a problem using scissors. I said, she just turned three-I don't let her use scissors! I didn't know I was supposed to!
Bad mommy! :) I guess I am as bad as Kate!

LOL...I thought it was Alexis, but DD said it was Leah. I figured she would remember better.
