Jon and Kate Plus 8. Official Thread!!

I have to agree with you. She didn't leave and shut him in there by himself either as a pp had stated, I don't think there is even a door on the laundry room. She was in there washing vomit out of the nice comforter they had just bought and the other children were going in and out of there, then Jon did take him to the floor in their room, nothing wrong with that, since he had just vomited in his bed and it was probably wet and nasty.

she left him in the laundry room and turned off the light. If there was no door, I stand corrected. It's been a while since I've seen that episode.

It just really struck me as cold. :(

this is another DIS thread about that episode - the OP mentions a closed door, too:

The last time I was really vomitty sick I wanted to lay on the floor in the bathroom because it felt better than my bed. And how do you know that she wasn't checking up on him every so often, but that part got edited out?

I used to like this thread, but it has become a Kate bashfest and I think its time to unsubsribe. I'll still watch the show, but I don't want to read all the Kate bashing.

but if he was in his room wouldn't she have turned off the light and closed the door as well?

no kidding! at least on other shows the bathroom serves as an off limit sanctuary but that sure does'nt seem to be the case here:eek: bathing, bowel movements, barfing-nothing is too intimate or personal it can't be televised:sick: speaking of which-has anyone ever wondered (like me) how they handle (or will handle) the issues of teaching modesty and privacy to the kids? i mean, by 4 my kids had a pretty ingrained idea that certain parts of the body were not displayed in front of anyone other than mommy, daddy, the doctor (and possibly other sibs-but even that was getting more limited), and they certainly did'nt want anyone but mom or dad observing them bathing or going to the bathroom (and they had to respect others in their right to privacy in these things). i have to wonder if it's not hard/confusing for these little ones to grasp that concept when the most intimate, personal (and in some cases totaly unclothed) functions in their lives are being witnessed and filmed by a production staff, then aired for the whole world to see?

And Collin will probably never live down the bathroom problem he had while they were furniture shopping. The camera kept zooming in on him and the way he was walking when he wasn't feeling well.

I just was it this week and she was in and out of the room and so were Jon and the other kids. She didn't leave him alone and she didn't shut a door. I think one of the other boys started vomiting again and she put him in there as well. If she wan't in the room the whole time, she was just down the hall and I really don't blame her, she did say at that point all of her other old comforters were being washed because of being vomited on, so you gotta do what ya gotta do. I get to see the show every morning, so I have seen many of the episodes many times.

I know I have laid on the cold tile floor in the bathroom after a vomiting session and it sure did make me feel better, now I wasn't 3, but I was still a child.

Cold is beating your child while in the ER and they are crying because they have been here for hours and are sick, Now that is cold.

Besides, I thought this thread was supposed to be for fans of the show, not those that are bashing Kate. Why can't we keep this thread for the fans, why do the bashers and haters come here to aggravate the fans.

I think I am out of here too, I think I will start a nice thread, since I enjoy watching the show and talking about it.

exactly.

I'm a late comer to this thread and to this show - but I've raised the question of edits before. The show is edited to evoke a reaction in people, the more of a reaction they get, the more people watch ... more $$ for everyone involved.

Jon & Kate chose this life for themselves and their children. I wonder if they'd stop production if the children asked. I wonder if the twins have expressed an opnion yet? And I genuinely mean that... not in a bashing way. I'm genuinely curious.

I also believe she put him in there because it was really noisy and that washer was providing white noise (I think) but I haven't seen it in a long time so I could be wrong--it's been known to happen:rotfl2: (but don't tell my husband)

I think the title just says official thread. Nothing about fans only.

And while I post negative comments, I'm certainly don't feel like I'm a basher (although I can see how it comes across that way) or a hater. I don't hate anyone. I don't agree with things Kate & Jon do. I am not at the foot of the cross, I'm not a perfect parent.... and have never claimed to be. But I do believe that because they have chosen to share their lives on national television, it is ok to question or comment on what's on the show. I also believe that the Jon & Kate on the show is most likely not the mommy & daddy those children see every day. I believe we see what TLC & Figure8 want us to see.

Why do I keep coming back....It is like talking to a brick wall

IIRC, at some point, Jon moved him upstairs ... and he threw up all over everything again.

I don't care who it is that does something like that to a sick child - my SIL, best friend, or Laura Bush ... I think it's really sad to put a child that is vomiting on a hard, cold floor and left alone. The only difference here is that Jon & Kate are allowing this to be filmed and shown on national television. We all do things that others may not agree with ... but, 99.9% of the world hasn't chosen to have their everyday lives filmed for TV.

I know that vomit on carpet is gross to deal with. I have 3 kids. But, when mine are sick, I try to make them comfortable.... they're within earshot, have a TV to watch and are close to the bathroom. I have old comforters and such I use in case they do get too dirty to salvage, just in case.

Jon did not move him upstairs. Jon moved him from the laundry room (which is between the kitchen and J&K room) to the floor in J&K room so he could watch TV once the family was sitting down for dinner.
The laundry room is where the potty seats are.

So all your "criteria" were met by the laundry room other than the TV

within earshot
he was on a thick comforter, so he was comfortable.
near his potty

Jon moving him got him further from potty and earshot.
Stop acting like the kid was laying on a cold hard floor until Jon rescued him. He was moved from the floor in one room, to the floor in another room.

The Jon love fest/kate bashfest is sickening

That would drive me insane. I would hate having people in my house for that amount of time. What if she wanted to lay down while the kids were in for a nap, or watch TV, or surf the internet? Woudln't you feel like you had to be "on" the whole time?

Just imagine, all the kids are napping and mommy lays down on the couch for a few minutes. Cameras roll while her eyes are closed getting a few minutes in of peace and quiet. Then it is edicted in to show the kids running around screamining and crying or fighting and getting into trouble.and they show Kate laying on the couch sleeping. Makes it look like she is sleeping while the kids are left alone to do whatever they want. Oh the power of the cameras and that darn edit button.

I watch the show because I enjoy those little kids - my goodness! They are too cute for words. I don't watch it to critique Kate and her mothering - in fact, I think she's brought them up to be loving children. If one hits the other, she makes them go over and hug and say "sorry"...I think sometimes we read too much into something meant for entertainment. I can't imagine have 8 kids so I have nothing to say on her parenting.

I love the show, I think they are just the cutest kids and Jon and Kate remind me a lot of my DH and myself..we tend to 'pick' on each other too. What I find amazing is the whole time out thing. they know exactly where their spots are and no matter how much they are crying they walk right over without a fuss and sit there, AND they don't try to get up at all. Amazes me every time I see it. I think the kids are being brought up well loved and cared for and since they all look very healthy, clean, and for the most part are all polite, well then my feeling is kate and Jon are doing an ok job with them.

well I guess it's at least good she doesnt spend most of her day on the computer rather than taking care of her children

see its really easy to make certain assumptions when we are not presented with the entire story

The Jon love fest/kate bashfest is sickening

I just checked my Tivo, and there are quite a few episodes coming up - which one is the one we're talking about ... the name of it? I'll be happy to watch it again. I mentioned earlier that it's been a while since I've seen that episode. I've been watching The Bachelorette on Monday nights for a while ;)

and as far as bashing? this thread is mild compared to some out there. I wish there was some happy medium out there, but I guess that isn't possible. People either love 'em or they don't. LOL. I haven't called anyone a name because they like Jon & Kate. I've not tried to convince anyone not to like Jon & Kate ... I've just voiced my opinion. I apologize for upsetting the apple cart over here.

For my part, I think Jon is sort of entertaining ... dude has a facebook with a bunch of girls (200+) as his friends.

I think he does what he has to do to get through the day - they both do.

I agree! :thumbsup2

This among many other reasons is why I no longer watch. I think it is cruel that they film those things for the world and innappropriate.

If the lastest shows are any indication, I don't think we are going to be seeing much other than "lets do this activitiy" shows. I don't see them showing us their "real" life. I am sure they are just as tired of hearing the crap people have to say about them as a lot of us are.

Actually, they did do JUST that last week on the Family Movie Night episode. Kate left the film crew to install blinds in the living room and said she was going to take a nap while the 6 were upstairs sleeping. The Producer then asked, but do they really take naps or something of that effect and they switched to the new cameras they've installed in the kids rooms and it showed all the kids jumping and playing while they were supposed to be sleeping.

Of course we don't know if that was footage of the exact timeframe she was sleeping but just goes to show, editing is a big part of all this. But I stand by you can't mince words. What comes out of her mouth is NOT edited.

I know it, I give Jon a lot of credit for doing what he did. My DH would have never done that.

I just watched that episode this morning. To each their own, but I wouldn't have let those kids run around the furniture the way they did, mostly because it was dangerous. Since they couldn't get a sitter they could have gotten a little creative, I used to make up little games when I went furniture shopping, where the kids were not allowed to go outside of a little area because there were sharks or something. The could have brought toys, anything. When my DS was about 2 I always used to bring a stroller and just made him sit in it if he started running around.

It wasn't a huge deal as obviously that many kids are going to be rowdy no matter what you do, but I would have tried something to entertain them, expecially if I were Jon (of course there's editing though).

Oh my goodness - the kids were too cute tonite! So many funny and touching comments; I cracked up watching them try the spicy nuts - so funny!

Jon and Kate looked great, btw. Can really see the weight loss in Jon and his hair is growing in well.

I agree. I enjoyed the cooking episode.
