That is so true. If she didn't insist on always dressing them alike, then it would be easy to change one kid's clothes if he/she got messy. Now if one child gets messy, they all have to change. Everyone knows that they are multiples so she doesn't have to prove it by dressing them alike. I am the mother of twins and I never thought it was necessary to dress them alike. If one baby spit up or got messy, I only had to change that baby. I can guarantee you that if I had that many babies at once, I wouldn't be wasting time with matching outfits. OK, I'm off my soapbox.

I'm wondering if they always dress in matching outfits or if it is a show thing? My bet is on the show wants it that way..what is cuter 6 kids dressed alike or 6 kids with mis matched outfits? What is the better visual on TV?

I thought in the episode when they went to the park to play after church either Kate or Jon said they were all dressed in red so it would be easier to find them all. And I thought that in this last episode there was a comment about how easy it was to find them dressed in the yellow. I wonder though how long before they decide they don't want to be dressed alike anymore.

I love this show but does anyone remember the Dilly's? They were so down to earth, wore whatever they could afford, and just loved one another. I love watching their updates. Their home is always modest but what they can afford and emphasis is not put on worldly possessions or clothing, etc. Anyway, I love watching the show but I am shocked at times when things happen!! But, who am I to judge?

i've often thought of the dilley's esp. when i watched the show in the begining. i thought it was interesting how the familys faced with similar circumstances chose such different paths (and seemingly parenting practices). both moms are nurses but mom dilley chose to return to ft nursing when it became apparant that she could earn more working less hours than her dh who became the ft sahp (which they apparantly have flip flopped between being over the years), dilleys despite even more media attention on their kiddos (they were afterall the first surviving sextuplets in the u.s.) chose to realy restrict access; and the dilley's realy seem like terrific 'co-parents', the kids (when they've done the periodic specials) seem to be just as confident that mom OR dad can address their needs (sorry, but i have an issue when kids get the impression from one of their parents that only they can do things 'the right way'-and i get offended when kate repeatedly says in the couch sessions-that her kids watch on video-that jon does'nt know how to do things, that she's concerned to leave the kids alone with him for extended periods of time, and that in reality she's 'parent' to 9 kids:sad2: ).

it will be interesting to see how the gosselin kids end up when they are older, from all reports the dilley kids seem to have realy blossomed into well adjusted, happy teens (i read an article at one point in time where the dilley parents had realy looked at and tried to learn from the issues that resulted with the public exposure and marketing of the dionne quintuplets, from all appearances it looks like their choice has worked out well for their family).

I guess I don't even pay attention to those anymore either :confused3

I googled the Mccaugheys and found very little, other than the NBC, Wikipedia, & the magazine articles. It didn't appear that there was an official website or anything like that.

When I looked at Becki Dilley's MySpace page, there's an ABC special coming up. The kids look great in the pictures, too!

The McCaugheys have chosen to carefully guard media access, just doing the LHJ yearly interview and the interviews with Ann Curry. Two of the children and cerabal palsy, but are doing well. She tried home schooling them, but they are all in public school now, as is the older daughter Mikalea. When the 7 were born, the town built them a house and dad's work gave them a van. For awhile the dad did speaking engagements at churches, but he now has a factory job; and now the mom works at the factory part-time, too. They lead a very simple, happy life from the looks of it!

I remember being impressed by Bobbi Jo but, it might have been Becki Dilley ... I can't remember for sure ... but, when the babies were little, one of the moms said in an interview that they were going to do limited endorsements/commericals for the kids' college funds. Something like that. By the way things sound, thats how it's been.

I hear what you're saying. I'm certainly not one of the bashers; but I don't think I'm one of the sheep either. I find myself shaking my head at alot of things Kate has done over the seasons and I have felt bad for the kids plenty of times. But who am I to judge? As many have mentioned here, I'm sure, as parents, there are plenty of things we have all done or said that we now wish we could take back. Our "freak-outs" aren't being broadcast on television.

If you read back over this entire thread, or look at others, you'll see that there are some posters who just want to bash no matter what and I don't think any of us are here for that. Overall, we just enjoy the show. I hate to read accusations that are made w/out any proof to back it up. And, for the life of me, I don't know why that then compels me to come on here and defend Jon & Kate - people I don't even know! Crazy!

We all have different parenting styles - no one way is right or wrong. It's fun to come here and discuss how we each feel about the way things are presented in the show. I just like to have pleasant discussions and not insult or undermine anyone.

btw - I'm not implying that you are one of the bashers; I just used your post as an example because I kind of agree with what you were saying.

You can say that again!

Unfortunately is just not a show that gets bashed. People and their situations that could be completely innocent get bashed here also. Sad :(

LOL...OT - this post freaked me out when I first read it because my name is Bobbi Jo! LOL I was like - "why are they impressed by me?" :rotfl:

I am so glad I just found this thread. I absolutely love this show. I havent yet gotten to watch the new one from the other night. It is still on my DVR.
I started watching one night when I surfing through the channels and saw Kate rolling over in bed with that huge belly. I have been hooked ever since.
It is a great show and watching these kids grow is really cool.

I just watched the newest episode yesterday. The thing that bothered me the most about Kate is that she seemed to have an attitude about the cupcake thing from the very beginning. She sat there with her arms folded the entire time, didn't engage the kids, fussed at Jon for where he was sitting, and yelled, "Don't touch! Don't touch!" Those kids will learn to resent her.

Oh, and I will never believe that the kids didn't want a carnival. What 4 year old would say, "No thanks, I'd really like a family day at home."

The kids are so unbelievably cute. They are the reason I will continue to watch the show. I have gone from a 100% Kate supporter to a... well, not so much a basher, but much less of a supporter, based on her behavior and changes in the show.

I hated that one of the twins (i'm sorry but I don't rememeber which one) had on shoes that no longer fit and that hurt. Somehow this is OK with Kate but don't get anyting dirty. The child's feet hurt! Let her wear a different pair of shoes! But I guess the other shoes didn't match to Kate's specifications.

I felt bad for her too (I think it was Maddie) but at one point a little later I thought I caught a glimpse of flip flops, so maybe she cried enough in the van and was able to change. Hopefully Kate didn't make her wear those painful shoes all through church.

I just watched the cupcake episode. Kates cleanliness really never bothered me before as much as this episode. I could even handle when she flipped out at Disney over the ice cream. But if this was their birthday celebration... then let them have at it! One day of a ton of laundry compared to sitting there and being a 'downer'. Drove me nuts. John even told her that some day she would regret it. I agree with the eat your dinner and then get dessert. But these 4 year olds were waiting all day for those cupcakes... why, so that she didnt have to do the laundry. I think an exceptino should have been made at this dinner being it was my birthdya. I felt so bad for Aaden sitting there watching his siblings eat their cupcakes. Dont think many kids would have been fired up to eat dinner after waiting all day for those treats they made. Madi and Cara ate theirs.
The shoes bothered me as well.

i can't believe she's never thought to do what most k or preschool teachers do (as well as some of us moms when we had kids that age). take some of dad's (or mom's) old t-shirts and just put them over the kiddos when they are doing a messy activity. no worry about stains because all you use them for is stain prone activities. they are ideal in that the short sleeves end up 3/4 length on the kids and hit about ankle length so they protect pretty much all the kids are wearing underneath. we had one teacher who had the kids each bring in one (and she grabbed a few extra from the 50 cent bin at goodwill) and decorate them with fabric paint so there was no argument over whose was whose.

IMO I think TLC arranged the bakery and Kate was just not happy about it period. I don't think anything would have changed her mood. This episode was a real eye opener to me. I've read negative things before about her but I always brushed them off.

I just felt she was really rude to the bakery ladies and they broke my heart because those ladies opened the bakery especially for them on Sunday.

I do remember that now that you mention it. I can see using same colors but not always the same clothes.

You can say that again!

I've been on the DIS for longer than I care to think about and I very rarely post any personal information becuase of that, I slipped and did in this thread and I guess it ruffled some feathers just a tad. I won't do it again (even though since my girls are pretty much grown and 2 of them are just about out of the house I don't have much to say about them anyhow)

But then we would have nothing to talk about it and the show wouldn't get the attention it gets. I'm not saying that she does let them get messy when the cameras aren't on because we all know that she is a neat freak, but the fact that she acted like she did makes people talk about the show a lot. And remember we show only bits and pieces of that day..edited by the producers, who knows what the rest of the day was like.

I'm guessing they were so hurt they cried all the way to the bank cashing the big check they were given from the show for opening that day. ;) :) my guess is they got paid pretty good to open and that they didn't do it out of thre kindness of their hearts...heck pay and free commercial time on a popular TV show, my guess is they did ok for themselves and we have no clue if at the end of the day kate told them thank you or said what a nice time they had.
