Jon and Kate Plus 8, Official Thread--Part 7

On a morning interview she did about a month ago, Kate alluded to going ahead and filing because Jon withdrew a large sum of cash in JUNE.

If we're thinking about the same interview, it was on the Today Show -- what I now think of as the Money Interview -- and she said that she withdrew $100,000 because Jon had withdrawn money from their bank account prior to her filing for divorce (not that she filed because he withdrew the money). It's around the 4 minute mark on that interview (don't ask me why I remember that, I just do :lmao:)

BTW, the part about her emptying the bank account on the advice of her lawyer later on comes just before that.

I stand corrected! I can agree with this too, the emotional part. I suppose it would be difficult to sit in a church pew with your kids minus your husband when the whole congregation surely knows why he's absent. Awkward.

I believe in the Vanity Fair article she said she doesn't go to church b/c she is too famous. I'm not 100% sure on that so somebody can correct it if it's wrong.

She didn't/doesn't have any problems going on vacation and trips w/o Jon, so I don't feel especially sorry for her if it's too painful to go to church just her and the kids. Seems like something a person who does everything for their kids, is a 'Can Do' person, and someone who can't go back only forward would do.

JMO of course.

Which could also be the reason she's not speaking at churches anymore.. It would definitely be awkward - given the current situation..

I'm assuming this is also why the publishing of her cookbook has been placed on hold as well.. It's a Christian publishing house and the content (not the recipes - some of her thoughts and comments) were centered around her family and marriage as a complete unit.. I don't know if she's doing a rewrite -or if she has already completed one - but the last email I received from the publishing house clearly indicated that the book was on hold "indefinitely"..

I'll be checking that out ... LOL

very good points. I hadn't thought of it that way!

Shame on her. We all know young widows, widowers, people with chronic and terminal illnesses (theirs or family members), and people with serious physical challenges that make it to church regularly. Going or not is certainly her personal choice, but don't pretend it's a priority for you and your kids to be there and you "just can't do it." I bet she's not been in town a whole lot of Sundays lately; why not say that when asked?

I think it's still different though...going on trips, Kate has help with the kids (bodyguards, helpers/nannies, etc.) Sitting in church alone with the kids, without those other people would be difficult. Especially considering that the congregation has known J&K for years now and would be aware of their public divorce and scandals. Maybe this is an area where Kate actually isn't a 'can do' person? I don't know.:confused3 It's easy to be a 'can do' person when you have lots of help. I'm thinking the stares and whispers would be too much.

I skimmed the VF article and didn't see it. That said, I've heard that Kate has made that comment before, so it might have been out there somewhere else. But as far as I can tell, there wasn't mention of church in Vanity Fair.

Well is there any reason she couldn't bring someone along to help? And if she truly only has "6 people in her life she can trust", wouldn't her own church be a good place to start looking for other people she could trust? (Of course we all know that there are some who attend church on a regular basis who may not be trustworthy or nice, but if her life is as lonely as she says it is, it might be worth taking the chance..) Also, with all that is going on with the lawsuit, divorce, and what-have-you, her children could probably benefit from attending church right now as well.. Don't forget - this would be "her" church - the one that she and Jon have said they attended faithfully in the past - so it's not like she would just be picking any old church to walk into off of the street.. KWIM?

Well, I'd imagine that church is something she and Jon used to attend without nannies or help. It might be awkward to ask a nanny/bodyguard who isn't religious to accompany her and the kids. Maybe she doesn't ask other friends because they're attending their own churches. I agree that church is a good place to start trusting people too and Kate would've known the congregation for years already. You know, this just might be an issue where her loneliness overwhelms her and she doesn't want to deal with it. Or maybe she's ashamed of what's happened between her and Jon (it being so public) and is embarassed to attend. Who knows. :confused3

Yup - I understand what you're saying - but if she only has 6 people in her life she can trust (4 of them being her body guard, his wife and children), she has to start somewhere.. I just think her church might be the safest place to start..

This is where I read the 'too famous' note. Maybe she did actually say it somewhere, and that's why the question, but it was a question someone wanted to ask Kate:

http://weblogs.baltimoresun.com/entertainment/zontv/2009/10/kate_gosselin_tlc_answers_ques.html

'As a devoted Christian, why do you feel you are too famous to go to church?'

I have no idea if Kate also said it, but this is from this website with Beyounce:
"Beyonce has just about the best excuse not to show up to Church on Sundays. She's too famous! She says she always gets mobbed by fans when she attends religious services, so she's decided not to go anymore.

Beyonce goes to church with my family. I've never seen a mob when she's been there, so maybe it happens when she attends church in other cities.:confused3 Actually there are several famous people who have attended our church and not been mobbed.:confused3 So I don't know about the too famous to go to church reason. She's better off with the reasoning that its hard to deal with alone whereas she used to attend with her husband. Either way I feel for her. Its got to suck to not even feel like you can go to church.

I don't follow Beyonce at all. I only posted that, because I wonder if Kate said she was too famous, or if it was this quote people were thinking of. I personally won't go there, discussing if someone feels comfortable being in church after a break up or any other reason. God knows we have enough to judge her on, and do, but I happen to think her reasons for not being in church are best left to Another to judge. I haven't seen it as a trusting issue from anything she has said.

Is Jon taking the kids to church when it is his turn?

I keep reading lots of posts about what Kate is or is not doing with the kids. But as far as church goes, nothing about Jon?

Excellent point, since Jon usually has the kids on the weekends. I don't think anybody has ever asked him this question in an interview. Maybe he does, maybe he doesn't -- but there has never been a story or pictures to say one way or the other.

So many things I could say--but given the rules of the forum I vote that we DROP CHURCH DISCUSSIONS.

We're already under threat of getting shut down. Let's not get shut down for a very clearly written rule.

the last time I read anything about Jon taking the children to church, it was back in the spring .. one of the weekends Kate was away on a speaking engagement.

another thing I've seen mentioned about Jon is that he attends activities at the children's school .. and seldom, if ever, does that get mentioned. I'm sure Kate attends things, too... which is a reminder that we truly don't know everything either of the parents do even 75% of the time.
