Jon and Kate Plus 8 Official Thread - Part 6

I agree totally about the editing. It can really change the meaning of the moment. I think TLC is trying to introduce a "new Kate" a much more friendly, easy going, not as controlling, mother of 8 kids. I think she is very comfortable with the camera and filming but she still comes across as unfriendly at times.
I like this board too! I don't even watch the show anymore and this board is so informative. It would be so boring if everyone thought the same way.

I agree. I think that either TLC is editing the show differently or that Kate has undergone some serious training on how she should be acting and presenting herself. I noticed her working out every day comment about the same time Jon was sticking his belly out to look pregnant. ;)

There is NO WAY that the "old Kate" would have allowed the boys to touch those nasty bones. You know how many germs must have been on them? :scared1:

A few things that I noticed. Kate mentioned the paps quite a few times but Jon didn't even though it was evident that they were there in the parking lot as he left the dentist with the little girls. Kate wasn't wearing safety glasses while shooting and the boys weren't wearing helmet while riding the horses. I thought for sure that would have been part of the rules included on the list at the ranch.

They didn't show much of the twins concert and I was hoping to see/hear more of them. There appeared to be a babysitter at home helping the girls dress up. I don't remember if it was the same day as the dentist so she may have been the one caring for the twins.

Just some of my random thoughts.

 The bolded part above made me laugh! Ya, Kate was going to a picnic, sure that's it!

I recently was wondering too what Kate would be like if I saw her somewhere and said hello. It would be really poor form for her to ignore fans, if you ask me. Why bite the hand that feeds you, you know? Maybe if I see her in Disney in October, I'll offer her and the kids some vanilla soft serve ice-cream!:lmao:

Personally, I love this thread. It is highly addicting and extremely enjoyable!:thumbsup2 My DH is completely baffled why I like it so much and my answer to him was, do I question why you play that stupid video game at night?? I know it can get heated at times but I do enjoy it. I think we all try to act cordially (well most of the time;)) and respect each other's thoughts. My only fear is that the show will end and then what will we all talk about?

The bolded sentence cracked me up :lmao:.

I agree with you about the thread being highly addicting. I have unsubscribed twice trying to ween myself away from it and can't do it. I respect all the opinions on the thread.

Anybody else think Kate looked either really tired or a little drugged last night when she did the interviews with the pink shirt and cowboy hat?

I liked the episode, I thought it was really cute (except the eating chicken feet part :scared1:). I can't believe how big those kids are getting! The girls especially were talking so good in their interviews. They are absolutely adorable!

I go almost every year that time in Oct. It isn't bad but the crowds have gotten a lot worse. My fav time to go in January. Heaven and spoils you rotten!! lol

Did it not bother anyone else, how much time Kate spent without the boys on her boys and mommy trip?
I don't know she always come off as a little selfish.

they really have -- we've gone in late September/early October every year (except 2001, when DD was born :)) since 1998 and we've noticed the change over the years. Before the free dining ever came into play, you could really tell the difference between end of September/early October and Columbus day. Now it just all sort of seems to be the same.

Didn't bother me, didn't she just go on a horseback ride and the shooting without the boys, how long could of that have really taken.

When we have gone on a cruise my DS will go to the kids club at times. I don't feel selfish doing something else.

Or, as it has been mentioned here before, it may be the way TLC edited the show. Maybe Jon had talked about how he loves spending time with the kids and how he hates being away from them but that sometimes it's nice in NY where it's quieter. It's easy to speculate. Personally, I think he meant it just the way he said it, just as I believe the wooden spoon was not in the car because Kate was taking a salad somewhere.

I'm not going to make excuses for either one of them at this point. I honestly believe if anyone of us went up to Kate at Disneyworld that we would get the cold shoulder. I wouldn't expect her to be friendly to me as we are virtual strangers. But, on the other hand, I bet if I went up to anyone who posts on this thread and said hi to them at Disneyworld and introduced myself, I am quite sure that they would be cordial.

I would much rather be harsh in my judgment toward the stranger known as Kate than harsh toward the strangers who post on this board. I enjoy all of your posts whether I agree with you or not. Both sides have excellent points and the thread wouldn't be the same without a little disagreement. I do hope if we ever meet in real life that we can meet as friends.

Whether it was edited funny or not, as parents we all have to use restraint when speaking within earshot of our kids. Maybe Jon didn't mean it the way it came out, but some day his kids will see that show and wonder. :scared1: Not good.

I think (just my opinion) that they both want to be on them to undo what the other said..and I wonder if there is something in the contract about it, since it does promote the show.

Until you wrote that, I was thinking that Kate was stressed with the paps because of the kids. I never considered she wasn't, but I could be wrong. I couldn't believe they were waiting outside the dentists office. That scares me a bit to think they could have been following them there from their home.

I really don't believe it's 'for the kids' b/c I have seen no actions to support this. No shielding by walking behind or even close to, no hurrying; not to mention long drawn out scenarios it would seem just SO the paps could get a shot. (driveway picnics and the l o n g walk to the bus the first days).

I agree with you kidshop, that walk to the bus was ridiculous. I couldn't believe when Kate lined the tups up by the bus to take a picture and went right next to the paps to snap a picture. Where was TLC? Why weren't they filming the 1st bus ride to Jr. K like they did the 5th birthday party?? She is always complaining that the paps are bad people and then she subjects her kids to them for the sake of a picture??

You mean because she went horseback riding and to the shooting range? Maybe it was when the boys were helping to feed the chickens or chasing the kittens. They seemed to be having a good time. I haven't a clue how much time she spent without the boys, if much at all, so no, it didn't bother me. I had no doubts after that show that she loves them and cares about them.

The only time I've seen her try to shield the kids was in the mess before the TLC photo shoot (remember they brought out tables to barricade the kids) IMO, when they did that they made the situation worse.

There's not many of us who agree on the problems with the driveway picnics, but that has become a pet peeve of mine. I would be hiding my DD from those cameras.

Yes. To me it seemed like a trip for the boys and if that were me I would have spent the whole time with them. It is not like she doesn't have any alone time.

Well, perhaps she thought it was a trip for all of them. The boys did some things without her and she did some without them. It seemed they did a lot together. I guess everyone has different ideas about their vacation time.

Exactly!
I do not spend every minute with my husband on our vacation together.

Speaking of which, I hope you have a great trip! :thumbsup2

The show only showed a portion of their time at the ranch. Seemed like they wanted to show some segments of Kate alone and they did. I think it was perfectly fine for Kate to do some things separate. I would bet she spent most of the time with them anyway. She could have taken a nanny with her, and she didn't.

No. I think it is healthy to have some apart time....even on vacation. And I think that it shows that Kate is relaxing some of the "control" issues that she has had in the past. She didn't worry about them getting dirty when she wasn't there, and, personally, I believe that it is important for kids to be away from Mom and Dad (in a safe place) in order to grow and learn to handle new situations.

Agreed! For those of you leaving soon, have a wonderful trip! I'm back to school and excited to help teach the little ones to become independent. (First grade can be hard on parents!)
