I heard Oprah had a big hand in including Kate in the forum with Maria Schriver because of her involvement with TLC. Maria claims her teenage daughters told her to invite Kate?? She might as well invite Octomom too! I can think of a million other women that Maria could of included instead of Kate. I'm sorry, but she is no role model that I would want my daughter looking up too!

I think I'll wait and see why Kate was in LA before condemning her, and I'll wait and see if Jon is really planning on a Paris trip with the young girl, before I believe it. I just can't say he's a bad person for wanting to divorce his wife. Since over 50% in the US get divorced, it's certainly not unusual. I wasn't privy to what happened between them in real life.
I'm not ready to toss Kate under the bus, and say she is a bad role model, since I'm not sure what it is that she is supposed to have done that is so terrible to make her a bad role model. She helped put her kids on TV, as have many other mom's, she wrote a book and left her husband in charge while she went traveling for a couple of months (but came home in between), she took advantage of offers that came her way, which I can't say I wouldn't have done. I just don't see where what has happened has made her this bad person.
She appears to love her children,, they appear to love her. She seems like a good mom to me, at least what TLC shows us.
While I'm not sure why she was invited to be part of this group, thinking about it, it sounds like they are having strong women, and that is something I do believe Kate is. I certainly don't put her in the place I put Octomom.

There were comments after the article about Jon starting the rumor about Kate and her bodyguard. Someone wrote that Mady caught Kate and the bodyguard kissing. Is this something that was confirmed somewhere or just someone else adding fuel to the fire?

Off the topic a little but has anyone seen the new show on WE 'Raising Sextuplets' . It is so different from Jon and Kate. The mother is a DR and the husband is also employed. The whole extended family is in the show helping out. All the grandparents,siblings,cousins are seen interacting with the family.It just seems like a breath of fresh air to see all the love in the show. It is sad that the J/K tups miss out of that kind of love.

I think she is a great actress and I am sorry for her horrible loss. But what is extraordinary about Kelly Preston? Maybe the point of this woman's conference is to invite a variety of women and not just those that are necessarily extraordinary.

That part seemed to stick out to me as well. If it's an honor to be there, make it sound like more than her "renting a booth" to try and sell her crap like any old person could do that. I can't believe Kate would do "only 15 minutes".....JMO

From the article above, it's not so much showing Kate as a role model but as trying to sell her book. As far as role models, I'd be proud of my daughter (if I had one!) who thought she could make it "on her own" with 8 kids instead of staying with her husband if they're not happy. I'm not trying to start a debate - really I'm not! - but there are some positive things Kate's done (and Jon too).

As for the conference - I agree too that Kate and Octomom to me at least, are in two very different groups!

Yes the mom's a Physican's Assistant in the ER I believe and the dad is in medical sales. I just read recently that they only shoot six episodes/seaon compared to J&K's 40.

As for the "breath of fresh air" I don't know I'd call it that. Jenny and her DH are much like J&K. I think all the kids (J&K and the other kids) all get lots of love - just from different people from what we're "allowed" to see.

Maybe her life experiences of dealing with a child with a serious medical condition? Dealing with these conditions in the public eye? Dealing with his death, let alone having it be all over the media? How to deal with a surviving sibling? How to go on?

I recently watch a few of the episods and LOVE the extended family, and for real feeling.The difference with this couple is they communicate, related their differing parenting methods, ie) getting the kids out of bed and diapers changed and find common ground and mediation. They are not perfect but they are honest. He really does love his wife too. The sense of humor, silly man type things, oh I laughed at the huge implants he put on.

The dynamics are enjoyable, I love grandpa!

Even the tree part. I can relate to that happening for me, but we could not afford to move the tree and it had to come down. I have another that will have to come down when ds builds his home in the front lot. I can remeber climbing it, sleeping under it and love its beauty.

Now I live in the Pocono's and have a forest montain for a rear yard,
Just something about the tree that you use the shade from nearby,
Shades in the summer and blocks the winter winds, and home to so many birds and squirrels.

I would bet most of the women to speak there (if they have kids) value keeping their private lives private and their kids out of the media as much as possible. THat is because they are both Scientologists and the scientologists promote each other shamelessly. What has Kelly Preston even acted in? Can we even still call her an actress? Other than being married to a gay scientologist, I'm not sure what she has to contribute.

I didn't know Oprah practices Scientology. Kelly Preston is there for her experiences losing and raising a special needs child. She also advocates for the practice of not using psychiatric drugs on children. She has acted in about one motion picture a year since 2000. She doesn't work much because of her kid(s). I thought Tom Cruise was the gay scientologist, not John Travolta! I loved her in Sky High! She was the mom in Cat in the Hat (ick!) and has a movie set for release this year called Old Dogs. I don't think she's speaking because of her acting career. Don't love her by the way, she and hubby are enjoyable to watch (Pelham is a great movie) but a bit nutty! But boy have they kept their kids out of the limelight.

From what I've read in the press releases about this event, she's speaking for the first time since her son died earlier this year. She's speaking with Elizabeth Edwards, who also lost a teenaged son.

I wish Jon & Kate would ride off into the sunset never to be seen or heard of again! What is it going to take to get TLC to cancel their show and let them get real jobs!!! They end up with 8 kids and cry poor for years only to land themselves a TV show revealing every private moments their kids encountered. I hope they are saving their money because those kids are definately going to need counseling.

That's what makes a reality show a reality show. I'll wait and see if they will need any more counseling than many others that need it. We don't all agree with you.
Heck, the new show, actually showed poo while still on one of the sextuplets butts, and some people on threads thought that was cute. I can't figure out why it's bad for one child on one show and not another.I think butts (bare) and stuff that personal shouldn't be shown on any show about kids.

I think Ed Hardy clothes are hideous, always have ... even before Jon Gosselin started wearing them

Ok, she has acted in more films than I realized...but she is still married to a gay scientologist. And yes, she advocated against the use of pychiatric drugs because she is indeed very much a scientologist as is John Travolta. In fact , it is widely rumored (and pretty much taken as fact) that their son actually suffered from autism, and not Kawasaki syndrome as they said. They did not want to admit that it was autism because their religion (cult actually) is against any form of phyciatry and pshyciatric drugs so their son went witho out any of the medications that may have helped him. Also, I have read that in scientology, having something like autism is looked down upon, because that means they have thetans (extraterestial beings) that they have not overcome. It is looked at as they are weeker beings because scientology "can heal and overcome anything" (according to them). So they would NOT admit that is what he had. Every autism group was very dissapointed that they would not come out as advocates for autism and admit that is what he had.
