Jon and Kate Plus 8, Official Thread-Part 4

I get what you are saying. There seems to be a generation of kids growing up that believe the world owes them something, a sense of entitlement.

That is true, for some kids. But to me that entitlement stems from treating a child like they are the most precious snowflake that ever lived.

It's best to be reasonably fair with kids. Not spoil them, but also not deliberately be unkind and arbitrary--especially not right directly in their face. When parents are reasonably fair, and not cruel, children learn they can trust their parents.
This area, though, is where I think Kate badly needs coaching. She has 8 kids. She thinks things are challenging now, wait until the middle school/high school years.

Wow. This actually made me a little teary-eyed. What a mess. I know I keep saying that but it just is such a mess. My guess is that they're divorcing. Stopping the show maybe soon after too. It's obvious from all the recent reports of Jon in one place and Kate with the kids in another they are heading that way.

The kids are really going to need some help dealing with all of this. As a child of a very messy divorce, I can say that it is so confusing when one day your parents are together and in love and the next you're moving out and Dad lives somewhere else. I still remember that heartbreaking scene with Alexis when she told Jon she didn't want him to leave anymore. I hope the show ends. All of them, J&K included need time and space to deal with everything.

I really hope this isn't some ratings grabbing blurb to make people watch. I'm sure the viewers will be tuning in, I will not but know I can read here what happened.

I guess mostly, those of us who have been here when it started as a fan thread. IMO It didn't spiral out of control until Jon was 'caught'. I do think it has gotten boring as the kids grew and I expected this to be the last year anyway. I happen to think the same of the Duggers. Someone posted J & K may have had a two year contract and this was year two when this year started, and I have no idea what their contract said.

You're right, we do disagree. I still don't see that this has been at the expense of the kids, although the paparazzi are doing their best to make it that way, not K & J IMO. Much more IMO at the expense of Kate, since it doesn't matter what she does, she's the bad person. I'm sure we'll soon see, why wouldn't Jon smoke pot (not that I can tell that is what it is..anymore than it was Kate's fist spanking her daughter), married to Kate. He's the golden boy, she's the bad mother.

In response to another poster, I see no reason why, as part of the show they have signed up for, she shouldn't take advantage of the placements and free items offered to the family. That is part of the payment. I've yet to hear any of the other reality shows turn down what they are offered. The more popular a show, the more that will be offered to them.

"We"? Please don't include everyone in that group.. I have always had a problem with this show - for various reasons.. But within the past year or so things have spiraled so far out of control - so much more for the kids to see, hear, and experience (now as well as later) it was mind boggling to me that they would sign on for yet another season - Season 5.. Clearly they weren't thinking of the ramifications and now they have come back to bite them in the butt - at the expense of the kids..

I know you don't agree with me - and we will never see eye to eye on this - but I needed to clarify that I am not a part of the "we" camp..

I'm beginning to think that someone needs to step in on behalf of these children .. not CPS or anything like that. I'm not suggesting that at all. But I think with this new ratings ploy/episode the media circus is going to be out of control for the next few days. The children shouldn't have to be subjected to that. Maybe Carla could take them for a few days or something. I don't know. I just feel sad for them. Those children did not ask for any of this.

No - the children certainly didn't "ask" for any of this and that's what I have been saying all along.. The children have no "voice"..

The kids don't deserve this, period. If the show ends the p people will gradually go away. They will be busy covering someone else's train wreck.
And counseling, the entire family needs it. Most especially, Jon and Kate. They need to own that they will be parenting as a team for many, many years to come, whether they decide to stay married or not.

But seriously, as others have posted, the Gosselins need to back away from the show and the cameras. The paps need to leave them in peace. AND they need to get some professional help to HEAL. JMHO.

I think they all start out saying that. Then they get popular, more stuff gets given, and well, if they really don't want to end up like the Gosselins, they better make sure they don't even scratch and itch wrong, or the Paparazzi will start with them, and see if they can break them apart.

Bryan and Jenny Masche vow their new show on WE TV, Raising Sextuplets — and their marriage — will not come under fire like Jon and Kate Gosselin. If anything, the Masches say Jon & Kate Plus 8 will be their guideline for what not to do.

"I'm like, 'Oh my gosh, that's scary. How can we protect our family and do this and have fun without anything negative happening?' I think we're both wise enough to learn from those mistakes [of the Gosselins], instead of thinking, 'Well, that would never happen to us," Jenny told New York's Daily News.

Sextuplets follows the Masches and their sextuplets, who turn 2 on Thursday, the day of the premiere. The couple has "ground rules" for themselves and the show, which films the Lake Havasu City, Ariz., family five days a month. The Masches will end the series — spawned from a 2007 special — if a family member wants to quit. Jenny, a physician's assistant in an ER, and Bryan, a pharmaceutical salesman, are also determined not to treat the series as a means of getting a paycheck.

"[Jon & Kate Plus 8] has really changed who those people are. It went from being a show about people who have sextuplets and twins to a show about people who have a show. Neither of them even work anymore," Bryan said.

Fellow reality-TV mom Tori Spelling agrees that Jon & Kate isn't quite the show it once was. The actress, who co-stars with her clan on Home Sweet Hollywood, told Extra that Jon & Kate has gone to "an odd place" amid all the media reports and scrutiny about the couple's rocky marriage. The latest Us Weekly reports that Jon cheated on Kate on her birthday.

"I loved the fact that they were a normal family; they weren't in Hollywood," Spelling said. "It's hard for me now to see them on the cover of People magazine... I hope they're prepared for what they are going through and just know that this too shall pass. ... Good luck to them."

Ok, I know you all will appreciate this. Well maybe not all but hopefully some. My DH doesn't get why I'm interested in J&K+8. Truth be told, he makes the occassional joke about my being on this thread, shame on him! But last night I was telling him something unrelated and he asked me if I saw the water clip with Kate and the interview! I about fell over. Never even gave a thought that you were being witchy. I leave that up to Kate and I'm sure we can just blame her..she made you do it

Seriously, most people's post clearly come across as just an opinion. If we (general or whoever) all really knew how to do things perfectly, we would have perfect marriages, with no divorces, we'd all be talking to our in-laws, everyone's children would be A students and graduate college and get jobs that allowed them to support us, all of our children would love us dearly, and never see bad in us..etc etc. We all just add a part to this discussion.

The only thing I do feel bad about, is that some people have definately taken some of this personally (I see you peeking in here), and we now have an underground PM board going, because they have left the thread.
