Sorry if this has been posted already, but just had to share...I've been a long time watcher of this show, since the beginning. This story actually surprised me some...I thought J & K didn't believe in spanking? :confused3

KATE SPANKING LEAH

Kate & Jon have said in their speaking engagements that they use spanking as a form of discipline. It's not shown as part of the show, where they use time outs.

I'm mean? I'm just stating my opinion like everyone else.

I thought you were dissing dissers more than giving your opinion on the show. :confused3 Your point about "this being what's wrong with the world" is interesting. I do think the show is reflective of a big problem in our country; the power of the almighty dollar. I also would like to ask Kate what happened to kindness and goodwill to one another. And what would it take to walk in her shoes? Doing a reality show featuring my young family? No way. If we aren't seeing the real family as you claim; why isn't someone who loves them and knows them setting us straight? Wouldn't Jon and Kate care enough about each other and the kids to not allow this portrayal in such a negative, and "untruthful" light? Kate is digging her own grave in the TV world. She is doing nothing at all to make her image better, or to be more likeable. She has chosen to plow on, marriage or not, and the turmoil at home is starting to show. I feel so badly for the kids to have all of this as nostalgia. "Remember when I was being spanked with my underwear showing on the cover of a magazine?" Good times, good times.

Did anyone vote in the poll that asked given their fame should Kate had known better than to spank while outside? Well 58% said yes!

Interesting. People voted she should not have spanked her outside. Doesn't matter that she was spanked, just that she was spanked where the pap could get shots of it and put it on their rag mags.:confused3

Spanking a child in public or even in front of gawking siblings, adds humiliation to the corporal punishment. Discipline comes from the word disciple which means to teach. I wonder what Leah learned that Saturday?

What ever happened to kindness, good will towards others? Don't judge someone until you've walked in their shoes. None of you have a CLUE as to who the Gosselin's are. You know what a tv show wants you to know and pictures the papparazzi show. That is nothing. Must be so nice to be as perfect as all of you claim to be. I can't hold a candle to any of you.

you're absolutely right. no one here knows Jon or Kate Gosselin ... so the comments (good and bad) are based on what we're shown. I've been involved with this thread for about 10 months, long before the paparazzi circus began. At that time, it was heavier with fans .. but it was then as it is now, a healthy (albeit heated) debate about the show. Most of the time I was outnumbered in my opinions, and more than once I felt like I needed to step back from the thread because I was made to feel so awful because I wasn't a Kate lover. But I've always loved this thread because it makes me think. And it makes me sad when people go, especially ones with a differing opinion.

I guess I'm glad to see there's a new thread for those who want to speak only warm and fuzzies for Kate. I know that's something posters on this thread have really wanted for a while.

Bottom line is this gravy train wreck is coming to a halt. TLC is only able to do so much damage control despite the fact that according to some people on this board that Kate is being set up. Drop of 31 percent in the ratings is a tell tale sign. People are tired of watching the drama of Kate trying to parent 8 kids, accept all her freebies and trips, run to Starbucks and put gas in her car. Time to get a real job Kate!!!!

Is this a 31 percent drop from the season opener or from previous seasons? I was under the impression that the ratings drop was after the 1st episode from this season. Lot's of curious folks that had never heard of the show tuned in to see what it was about and then tuned out. Are the ratings consistent with past seasons?

I'll have to go back and check, but I think that this week's ratings are consistent with where the ratings were before the season 4 finale. Until that episode, the ratings had been steadily dropping for a few weeks.

Thank you, Madge.

I wonder what the ratings were for season 4 compared to the first 3 seasons? Just curious if the distance shown by Jon and Kate towards each other in season 4 had an impact on ratings.

ratings continue to drop:

Here you go:

It appears they lost one million viewers just since last weeks show..

for the week ending March 8, 2009:
Jon & Kate Plus 8 had 3.103 million viewers and the ratings dropped for the rest of the season until the finale at the end of March.

The 2.9 million for this week is at or maybe slightly below where the ratings were in early to mid March.

that's a good question. IIRC, without checking www.tvbythenumbers.com, the ratings had actually been going up and the vow renewal was the most watched JK8 at the time. I don't know if the distance played into the ratings as much as people were commenting (not just here, and it may not have even been here .. I don't remember) that the show was getting boring, the trips/outings were getting to be too much, etc.

I can probably find specific ratings, but it might take a while. LOL.

why isn't someone who loves them and knows them setting us straight?
.
What could they possibly say that wouldn't be torn apart? If they stuck up for her, some would say see..she needs someone to stick up for her. If they don't, people say, doesn't she have any friends? I wonder if she is protecting her friends and wants them to stay out of it, so they don't end up with paparazzi in their faces. Of course this is just an opinion..I have no facts as to why everyone is staying in the background.

I'm with Marge on that, that people started commenting that it was getting boring. I personally thought it was getting boring and pretty much watched repeats only when it was pretty convenient for me (for instance when I was already trapped at the computer), rather than taking time out of my evening to watch the show. I'm doing that now, as well.

I hope and pray that this is the case. I've said all along that I hope that Jon and Kate have people in their lives that have their (Jon and Kate's) best interests in mind and are helping them steer their way through this journey. Some that cares about them, and not trying to earn a living off their success. One of the saddest things I think I've ever read was when Kate said that their circle had gotten so small that they were surrounded by mostly "people" (publishers, nannies, et al) and there was little mention of friends, at least from Kate.

Jon, OTOH, seems to never be at a loss for people to hang out with.

Marge? Who's Marge?
:upsidedow :upsidedow :upsidedow

She needs someone to stick up for her. It's time now for someone who knows her to come forward with postive info about her. People came out for Britney, even Federline did and her parents stuck by her and she was undeniably cuckoo-crazy. People have come forward in support of Jon, saying he was a nice guy at one point at least.

It's time.

I don't think she is being set up, but I do think if TLC could find interest in a single mom and 8 kids, they would go for it, because as long as they are making money, they are happy. That's what they do. Beleive me, they are the ones that have been making the most money out of this, and getting the sponsors to anti up. I think the natural evolution of shows and kids growing up is why the ratings have gone down for awhile now (except the end show and opening show). This show didn't suddenly drop 31% from the regular shows until now..it went way up for the end and begining and then back down to where it was heading. It's prob getting ready to run it's course. I loved watching the kids when they were baby/toddler/preschool, but I'm not a big school age person. I don't want to watch them at this age, so much. IMO, the rise was the false amount, and the lower amount of watchers is pretty much where it was heading before Jon getting 'caught'. Still a lot of watchers.
