That's not quite the point some of the posters were making...with 8 kids how is she finding the time to look so fabulous? I'm not saying she shouldn't look great (and she does look great) but most (not all) Moms don't have the time to spend on themselves like Kate does and she has 8 kids. Usually Moms don't have the luxury to tan, get manicures, pedicures, lots of hair cuts, hair coloring, new clothes and so on. Typically we're running out to Target in our gym pants not a denim mini skirt with heels.

Disclaimer: No Moms were harmed in the writing of this comment nor was the poster (myself) implying that all Moms should look like crap.:goodvibes

Kate has help, that's how she has time. How many mom's with kids have their husband home to help with the kids? How many mom's have a helper? She isn't doing it alone, if she was she wouldn't look like that.

Although, there IS a mom at my niece's school who always looks perfect. My sister says it's amazing. She has 4 kids and she is always made-up, with hair done and fashionably dressed. Even when she drops the kids off at school in the morning. My sister thinks she must get up at 4am to look like that every day. :rotfl: She also says she's very nice though. To some people that kind of stuff is just really important.

I have watched Jon and Kate off and on for a while and I found the episode I watched tonight odd. Was it just me or did it seem like Jon was trying to maybe polish up his image tonight? I applaud his helping kids with disabilities (didn't catch the whole episode but I assume that he was doing some volunteer work??) I do think it is rather unrealistic that most fathers of 8 have time to volunteer with other children but I realize he is not in the position of most fathers. I just thought that the timing was odd. Of all the episodes I have watched I don't remember him ever really doing anything of this sort before... ( feel free to correct me if I am wrong since as I said I have not watched the show regularly) that is before the world saw him riding around in the middle of night with some young woman.

The difference with the Dionne quintuplets was that they were forcibly removed from their parents as newborns and cared for by a variety of staff with little apparent affection and made to 'perform' daily for the viewing public in a very artifical environment for many years.

When they were eventually returned to their parents care they were abused by their father. They also never received any financial benefits during their explotation, and only received compensation from the Canadian government many years later.

In all honesty I would say there is very little in common with any high order multiple families in recent history.

I 100% disagree with you that there is little in common.

Of course no one's life is like another's in EVERY detail. But if you read the letter I posted from the Dionnes to the McCaugheys, the Dionnes were not warning the McCaugheys of the possibility that their children would be taken by the government, sexually abused, etc. -- some of the unique things that happened to them -- they were warning them against turning their children into a commodity for money-making purposes. Which is, in fact, EXACTLY what happened to the Dionnes -- and is what is happening to the Gosselins. Their warning had to do with marketing children's personal lives and profiting off of their being multiples.

Tell me, how that is any different than what Jon and Kate have done to their children? The children's pics are used to sell books, promote a TV show, promote products and vacation destinations on the show, etc.

As for "performing daily" for the viewing public -- the Dionne quints had their "playtime" put on public display when they were children -- tourists could walk past and observe them through viewing windows. How does putting children on 40 TV episodes a year compare??

Up until now, the Gosselins have filmed 58 episodes in total. This year alone the family will do 40 more episodes -- almost doubling the TV time for their kids in one year. And the parents will make $3 million dollars.

I just don't see any fundamental difference between the marketing of the Dionne quints and the Gosselin sextuplets.

I know this going to sound totally snarky, but I think the show came up with him helping out the kids with disabilities, otherwise Jon might as well not have even been in the episode, they couldn't just show him snowboarding by himself the whole time and they sure weren't going to show him hanging out in the Park City clubs at night.

I was on the phone to my sister and she heard me be all excited about DD getting off the bus. She was like boy it sounds like you missed her!

Times change,
For me when the oldest started Kindergarten in 1979 I cried and was so anxious. Fast forward and three more kids later, 2001 YEP, 22 years later I kissed the ground as the last one went off.

My, what was to be the youngest, had graduated earlier that year as I was registering littlest for kindergarten, :scared: ANOTHER 12 years of PTA, girl scouts, early mornings, homework and school shopping. :scared1:

Since I was 23 years old I have had kids going to school, I will be 55 in Dec with another 5 years to go...

I will be 60 before she is off to college:eek: Almost 40 years of the school system......

At least Kate is doing it all at once. It will either be a breeze or the death of her from all the harmones in that house.

:thumbsup2 pirate:ya can't pull one over on a DISer!:thumbsup2

I too was thinking the same thing. When did they film the couch portion of that episode? They looked like they didn't mind being in the same breathing space as each other. Maybe it was because Mady was there. :confused3
When did they film the couch portion of last week's show?

I would bet this episode was made prior to the break of the media frenzie. She was NOTHING like the episode of the birthday party. Also the jackets need was not a sweat jacket, but a winter coat. Even where he was skiing was heavy winter weather. I would guess this had to be in Feb. before the perverable poo poo hit the fan.

Aren't they airing their 100th episode next week??? According to wikipedia, Season 3 was 31 episodes and Season 4 was 41 episodes.

I have a question ... Was Kate REALLY surprised by the bus showing up? Did she really NOT know they were driving 2 hours to Charm City Cakes?

On one hand I thought she did seem a bit surprised, but on the other hand, I just can't imagine Kate being so good about going on a trip she didn't know about it.

Because she has housekeepers and nannies and the tlc crew/staff; possibly a cook and gardener/lawn care company; and Jon that do the majority of the work for her.

Did anyone else catch at the end of the episode with Kate's birthday that there was a person with silver hair that got blurred out a couple of times, but not before you got a peek at his hair? Was her body guard with her and her kids? Am I just reading into things?:confused3

I agree. I think he is polishing up his image (or TLC is anyway). But he did say that his dad was involved with disabled kids too. (a doctor, I think he said, operating on them?) So, this may be something near and dear to his heart that he really wants to do. I'm not gonna judge his intent. I'll just hope that it is all good.
It was weird to have him out there and her be at home with everyone else. I wonder if things were grand at home if they'd have done that? Maybe so...she goes away to do book signings and talks while he goes away to volunteer? If that's all he is doing with a little fun snowboarding and skiing thrown in, I think that's great. If he's partying it up with other women besides his wife then, well, I'll keep my thoughts to myself. :scared:

It's possible Kate's image change, clothes, tan, exercise, etc could have something to do with Jon's wandering eye. Maybe she feels like she's having to compete with 20 y/o's & she wants to show him that she can still look good. Doesnt seem very Katelike but maybe.

I kind of thought that too. But also as your kids get older you do have a little more time for yourself. Both of my kids are now in school, so I do have time to get pedicures, etc.

You mean while at Charm City? I would think the "silver fox" ;) would be there with them as they were 2 hours away from home and would take a bodyguard, wouldn't they?

I mean, Jon's trip just happened to take him out of town on her b-day, ya know? So, they either needed a bodyguard or two or a "stand-in DH".

I haven't gone back and watched closely, but I believe the girls all had on shirts with slices of cake on them. Coincidence? :rolleyes1 Maybe is was just in honor of Kate's birthday. :confused3

It seems when they are just at home these days the six and especially Cara ant Mady are not dressed alike, but they always are for any type of outing. That seems to me to indicate she knew what was going to happen.

Actually I believe this episode and the next couple were filmed before the whole cheater cheater pumpkin eater issue came up/out. Then they did the bday party and whats going on with Kate and Jon 1st to say what the deal with them was. Or at least thats what I thought I read on this thread previously or maybe another thread LOL

Since Jon knew about it, the show along with him could have arranged the kids to wear those shirts. I think Kate could have just thought they were special for her b-day from TLC or something. I couldn't tell if she was really surprised or not. Watched that part twice and my conclusion was that she knew filming was happening that day but really didn't know about the trip. I could be wrong but that was my gut feeling.

I am not going to judge his intent either, I think it is wonderful for the show to let people see that persons with disabilities can go skiing. Many people will know about that center now, I think it is wonderful.

Just a FYI for people reading--I'm not in any way suggesting the poster that asked about this originally was judging Jon's intentions.
I'm just saying that I'm not going to, as hard as it is, esp. under these circumstances and also the fact that I don't care much for him. I want to assume the best and hope he was sincere. The whole situation seems weird to me but I'm trying hard not to jump to my own conclusions.

I just started watching the new episode from tonight (or yesterday) and I noticed that while Jon was making food for the kids he talks about how they both agreed that one of them would always be with the kids. That is good news that at least one of them will be there!

Then he goes on to say that while Kate is away working and on book tours I will be home with them. When I am traveling or on vacation Kate is around. He then talks about being the stay at home parent and how different it is. Okay so your wife is gone for business, but you are gone traveling? :confused3

Here is my two cents....if Jon doesn't want to be the stay at home parent, then why doesn't he get a job? If he feels less "than a man" then why isn't he trying to do something else?

They have both now said that they have help in the house no matter whether it is Jon or Kate that is there. And yes everyone can debate whether they should have help or not, but the fact is they do have help.

I seriously doubt that Kate is telling Jon not to have a job or earn money, that does not seem like her at all. ;)

It just seems really sad that the kids are now finally older, all going off to school (DH and I did the happy dance when both kids were in school :rotfl:)and yet they still can't make it work.
