Jon and Kate Plus 8, Official Thread-Part 4

Kate says in her book the reason they haven't cut her hair is because of Kate's grandpa. Kate's maternal grandfather held 10 month old Hannah and stroked her hair saying, "You have such beautiful hair, sweetheart." Her grandfather died soon after that.

I think should've read Beth's book before she went making statements on the show . I think I've heard every excuse OTHER than the grandfather story (agree its very sweet / motherly) .

Was this the same Mady from the other seasons?? She was like a changed child! I know its early, but she seems like she is growing up!

I watched the last 30 seconds or so, when the channel flipped to tape Cake Boss.

and I agree, she seems like a different child, which is nice to see .. but the cynic in me suspects that there was intent to show her that way, due to the way she's been seen in the last several months. that's not to say that she's not always been like this and just edited horrendously until recentl, because that could be the case. Because that's one of the things that's always bothered me about the show, specifically how Mady has been shown through the seasons... there's no way she's like that all the time, and I have a difficult time understanding why Jon and Kate allow her to be edited/portrayed on JK8, especially if she isn't really that extreme in her emotions as often as it's shown.

Kate looked her age (young) in the dating, wedding, honeymoon videos. I know she's older than Jon, but by what, one-two years?

She still looks her age...34 from what I read. Just because she's a mother doesn't mean she still shouldn't try to look good.

I'm really suprised at all the posters saying moms shoudn't spend too much time on looking good (getting up early, working out, spending time on hair and makeup).

Is this a cultural, generational, or possibly geographical split? Ladies?

That is funny, I for one think she looks much older than 34. I am all for looking your best and working out. I just do not fake tan, either spray on or a bed. I am not a fan of her look, or her outfits I find them to look dated, that is just my opinion and taste.

That's not quite the point some of the posters were making...with 8 kids how is she finding the time to look so fabulous? I'm not saying she shouldn't look great (and she does look great) but most (not all) Moms don't have the time to spend on themselves like Kate does and she has 8 kids. Usually Moms don't have the luxury to tan, get manicures, pedicures, lots of hair cuts, hair coloring, new clothes and so on. Typically we're running out to Target in our gym pants not a denim mini skirt with heels.

I guess I think that b/c it seems to me that she is all about appearances and there's way more to life than that, and the children just seem to get so little of Kate. I could be wrong, but I'm basing my opinion off of what I see on the screen.

That's the point I've been trying to make, and obviously I have failed. You said it so perfectly!

Yes, Kate does look great! With eight children, I think it would be hard to find the time to look so glamorous, yet she does it. Good for her, I guess.

I've said it several times, but I'm a bit hard on Kate, so I tend to look at her with a lot of disfavor. I have for a very long time now, so even though I try to see the whole picture, I still see Kate as a hard woman who doesn't appreciate her kids enough.

To me, if you have to tell the whole world a billion times that "its all for my kids. I do it all for them", it becomes a little hard to swallow (for me anyways).

Forgive me if I'm being too harsh. I just can't help it when it comes to Kate.

Also, Jon's not winning any awards with me, either, if that counts for anything!

Jon and Kate have been filming episodes for season 5 since March. It could have been any time after that. My guess is late March, but I have no idea (as fact) as to when it was filmed.

Even with 8 kids if i knew i was going to be on tv I would run my fat tushy off on the treadmill. If she looked fat everyone would be commenting on that too.

I didn't see it, so I don't know .. I just saw a comment about the show that mentioned it. I don't think I can comment any further than that, since I don't have first hand viewing experience.

It certainly looked like the same shirts, so much so that I thought I was watching the ending of last week's episode. It was confusing. They were talking and interacting and it wouldn't have been obvious they were having marital problems based on that episode. They were laughing and sitting together (Mady in the middle) and seemed normal. I just don't understand how TLC is planning to spin this...Jon is on one side the country for the show and Kate is on another. That's not what they show purposed to be, it was them as a f-a-m-i-l-y. It's all very strange.

I'm sure that is what she wanted but can you blame her? For years it's been about the sextuplets. She and Cara were eclipsed by 6 cute little babies. I can't tell you how crazy it made me to hear J&K go on and on about how Mady was in one of her moods or you never know how Mady will act. It was sad to me to hear them speaking to all of the world about her behavior. So, I believe that Mady acted out because that was how she got J&K's attention.
