Jon and Kate Plus 8, Official Thread-Part 4

It was filmed either the weekend after mother's day, or the weekend after that. The kids birthdays actually was on mother's day, but they waited to have the party until later because Kate spent mother's day at the spa :sad2: .. happy 5th birthday...after all you only turn 5 once...hmmm....:confused3

Are you sure? I thought that the party was on Mother's day? And what's wrong with a Mother going to the spa on MOTHER'S DAY?? Plus did I miss where it said she was at a spa on that day?

I just watched the season premier again...not sure why, but watching the party I was wondering how they handled the inviting of the friends, no way they expected everyone to bring six gifts, but I saw people carrying multiple gift bags. And are the sextuplets all in the same class at school? Kate said she invited their teacher, singular. I'm surprised, you would think they might be split into at least 2 different classes?

They are in the same class. I personally would have had them split up, but I am pretty sure they aren't.

My girls have birthdays a week apart and when they were little we would have a combined party. Most people only brought a gift for the child that was their personal friend and some kids brought gifts for both. But we only expected them to bring one.

Some TABLOID website said she was at the tanning salon
"all day". Yet another website said she was seen at a bakery getting a cake. She probably had some "me" time for mother's day and then had an at home birthday celebration with the kids.

Just chiming in about preschool and multiples.....in our town the multiples are not split up until 1st grade.

Well, that kind of makes me ill...they would have glossed over all their marital problems for the sake of the show, to be able to continue. I bet they (TLC, J&K) were pretty ticked then when the pics of Jon surfaced and everything started to crumble. The California trip definitely seems to have filmed before the huge scandal hit. Poor little Mady sitting their between them and probably oblivious that J&K are just "acting" like their marriage is good for the camera. :sad2:

I remember too Madge, when you were saying that they were already filming season 5 before the big season 4 finale. Is everything about the ratings? It sure seems like it. Now they can spin this scandal (which will most likely end sadly in divorce) and reach a new demographic...divorced parents and single moms. Do J&K really care so little about each other to have come to this point? Sad, sad sad.

Yes, yes and yes

Ah the big debate. To break up multiples in school or not. You could start a thread on that subject alone and it would wind up being as long as this one. :rotfl: A lot a parents don't separate multiples in preschool. Granted their not sextuplets. That's half a class!

Exactly!....This discussion sometimes gets dangerously close to the whole SAHM/ working mom debate....and there is no right or wrong answer in that issue.
I myself am a SAHM but I would fight for the right for every woman to work outside the home if they want to...Sometimes I think this thread is going back to the dark ages.:rolleyes1
So Kate works "away"....So What!!!!.....So do many many mothers....it doesn't mean the kids are damaged.
Kate knows her time might not last...she is making the money whilst she can...in 5 or 10 years noone will remember who she was.

And my DH works away monday to friday.....So i suppose we better save up for the councilling the kids will need...(to whoever said that was wrong;))

And guess what.....He works away so we can all have a better life...A better lhouse...Disney trips..(we live in the uk so they cost a lot)...private schools for the kids....But thats OUR choice.....

But dh could get a lower paid job closer to home...we could live in a shack...never take the kids anywhere...no disney EVER....pull them out of the schools they love...and all live in cramped..rough area...happily together.
Well together after 7pm anyway;)...oh but I'd have to work as well...Oh well....yes I can see DH moving closer home to work would be so much better.:confused3

I don't think anyone begrudge Kate working outside of the house. If that's what she wants to do fine. I think that some people me included feel that Kate strong armed Jon into being a SAHP under the guys that it will make her life easier if she has help. Now Kate is gone, Jon is home with the kids and unhappy. Yes if he didn't want to stay home he should have stood up for himself. Then we get into the whole fight the battle and be contently bet down about it and other things or just do what Kate wants and element 1 fight.

Oh I'm sorry is that being a Kate hatter?

yes. there were at least 4 shows filmed (that I'm aware of) before the recent media frenzy.

~ a trip to Florida in early March... a DISer saw Jon at a local bakery, and it was later confirmed he was in Florida to present an award. A film crew was with them.

~ Jon & Kate's 100th episode with Emeril

~ Kate's trip to California. That was listed in the speaking schedule on the other thread ... mid-April, I think?

~ The birthday trip to Charm City Cakes in late March

I knew you'd have that time line! :goodvibes You're so good at the details!

I just watched the season premier again...not sure why, but watching the party I was wondering how they handled the inviting of the friends, no way they expected everyone to bring six gifts, but I saw people carrying multiple gift bags. I asked about the gift thing (I think on the last thread) only because I wasn't sure what birthday "protocol" was for a birthday party for multiples.

As for splitting the class up, my understanding it that they go to a small private school so maybe that's not possible? I don't know the size of the school - maybe someone from the area can shed more light on that.

I don't get all of the anger about Kate working. She is trying to earn money for her family, what is the problem with that? Jon doesn't work, so now she does. Doesn't every family need someone who earns money?

Responding below to both quotes at one time.

I think the "anger" is that Kate is/was speaking about how she's a SAHM which isn't true any longer. I think the "anger" is that Kate's saying one thing but doing another. I don't think anyone really cares who's making the money for the family.

I think the other "concern" is that it's been said that the "show is their life and their life is the show" and that was the "job" for the parents as they've commented on how much "work" the show is for them.

I don't think anyone honestly cares either way who's staying home with the kids or if both parents are working. Like I said, I think the "anger" is that "untruths" are being told (or were at some point).

Jon is working, he is on the show. The show is their life, their life is the show. Kate is working multiple jobs, which is fine. But her home life is in ruins and she is still criss-crossing the country. It's not like that is her only income.

They have pictures of all of the above on Mother's Day so it is not just "tabloid trash". The party was the weekend after Mother's Day (The 6's birthday was on Mother's Day), once again, pictures to back that up as well. Also, the People Magazine article said Kate did the article and pictures over Mother's Day weekend.

Jon may be working but it appears that Kate generates the most income so of course she is going to be going all over the country, she does have to promote herself and the family. As for the home life being in ruins, personally, I think that Jon and Kate need to have some time by themselves, no kids no cameras, nothing but just them. Not to make up or anything, but to talk things out.

P.S. I saw the picture of Kate rolling her eyes. My mom walked by and said "I know how she feels!"

If my kids birthday fell on Mother's day, I would NOT have their big party that day because no one would come. They'd all be busy spending the day with their own moms.

I don't blame her one bit for putting off the big party until the following Sunday.

I'll bet she had a smaller celebration (thus the cake picking up photos posted in a link above) for them on their actual birthday and a bigger one on May 17.

What's wrong with spending part of Mother's day at a spa? :confused3

I'm weak....I got sucked in...going from just reading posts to actually posting!! ;)

They just said on fox nwes that j and K make 75000 an episode.

Yes, Kate works "away" from the home. But does she need to? How much money are they making per episode and yet she still feels the need to be gone 3/4 of the month to promote books? J&K have said soooo many times that the show is their life, their life is the show which allows them to stay home with the kids. They go on and on about how grateful they are for the opportunity to do so. A bit conflicting don't you think? What would you think of say, a neighbor, who talks about how great and blessed it is that she can stay home with her kids and then she's taking business trips for 21 out of 30 days of the month? You wouldn't believe her, at least I wouldn't. Also, TLC is planning on 40 episodes for season 5, that's a lot of filming and a lot of money.

Yes, J&K's kids will most likely need counseling but not because Kate's gone all the time. :rolleyes1

I've just caught up with all the new posts, whew!

After seeing the clip of them talking with Mady and reading a few other snippets, I don't know, I'm kind of wondering (again) if this isn't all a bit of a media induced hysteria? :confused3

I'm sure they are having a really rough time at the moment in their marriage, whether they can work through it is up to them. But I'm thinking maybe it's not as rough a patch as the tabloids are making it out to be. :rolleyes1

Dons flame suit now........

Apart from Kevin & Jodi no-one else (that seems really close to them) has come out and said anything. I'm disinclined to fully believe Jodi and Kevin because they have previously had a well documented fall out with Kate especially, and I kinda think they're just stirring it for a bit of attention.

Unfortunately now because of all of tabloid attention it will become so much harder for them to try to work it out. A bit of a chicken and egg situation....

The recent photos of Jon talking to 2 women are a good case in point - take a photo of anyone, even in a totally innocent situation, and it can be made to look bad.

As for Kate working away so much, I don't really have too much of an issue with it. When you have a book or anything to promote you have to tour to try and sell it, but it's generally only for a few months then you stop. I imagine that the hectic schedule will slow down once the initial promotion is over. Well, that's what JK Rowling said anyway! LOL!

That proves the point that she was NOT at the spa "ALL DAY".

I don't feel that Kate working has anything to do with the money anymore. I think that Kate actually likes to work. I mean, there are some people who do like to work and Kate's behavior seems to be an indication that she likes to. A lot of moms' do work and travel a lot, some of them like that but does that make them bad moms?

Great minds think alike!

I don't think there's anything wrong with being at the spa but I believe she was just at a tanning salon - not a spa. Let alone it being a Sunday, it's a holiday and I know spas around here (major tourist area) were NOT open so I couldn't haven't went if I wanted to.

I don't blame her for having the party on a non-holiday day. We're not having DS4's party on his birtday (we're going to Disney as a SURPRISE!).

My "confusion" or curiosity comes from picking up a birthday cake. I watched one of the episodes I dvr'd where Kate was making the cake for Mady and Cara's party and how Kate went on about making the kid's cakes and how she tried to keep it a surprise every year. Did she not make their cakes this year?? It's sad that little "traditions" like that can fall to the side - and I don't just mean in J&K's family - it happens to all of us!

I'm sorry...I have no idea what you just said?:confused3

I trying to say I have no judgment that Kate is working outside of the house but I feel that she made Jon quite his job to stay home to help her and now she's the one who's not home. Get it? I'm really eloquent in my head. :lmao:
