Jon and Kate Plus 8, Official Thread-Part 3

I just watched it and thought 2 things. First, she looked taken aback and uncomfortable when asked how hard it was to write the book Multiple Blessings. She said it took her a year and half to do so, but said reliving the parts of the book were hard but that writing it was easy. Second, when asked about the "fandom" of her show, she said all those people are silly, it's ridiculous. I thought that was a rather strange comment to make about the people who are literally making the show so popular by watching. :confused3 I'd have thought she would say something like yes, we are so pleased that so many people love our show. I don't know, it just sounded strange to me. Maybe she should have had a chat with her PR person before she gave that interview about her fans!:lmao:

I noticed those things also. Especially regarding the book question. She seemed a little caught off guard by it. I think maybe her comment regarding the fandom was maybe that she was surprised that all of those people are watching, like maybe she thinks her life is nothing so interesting to watch or something. I don't know. It stuck out to me, too, but that's what I got out of the comment after thinking on it some.

Normally, I don't care for Kate at all, but I felt like she did okay on this particular interview. I still think that she traveled way too much and should have been home with her children. Just the fact that she didn't even know what day it was told me volumes.

------------------
I'm aware that people use "ghost writers" - I'm an avid reader.. :) However, Kate has always led people to believe (by omission of fact) that it was "she" who "wrote" the book - not Beth.. Seems to me that Kate should be listed as the "co-author"..

I would hope that something was written into the contract for Beth - but then again, Kate's past "contract issues" have been rumored to be not that generous.. (Key word: "rumored".. Who knows?) ;)

I've never once thought that Kate led anyone to believe she wrote the book herself and I've never read that on any blog or internet thread. Beth's name is right on the cover, and it's often been in the advertising. Beth has talked about it in the past, and never been negative about her part that I've read. It's been talked about on almost every blog and thread I'm on when the book came out.
The contract would have involved the publisher as well. It would have been between them and Beth, and up to Beth to accept or not.

edited to add:
What contracts has Kate had with others, where she wasn't generous? I didn't realize she had any other contracts.

I thought Kate did a really good job answering questions. The one question that seemed uncomfortable was, "was it hard writing your book."

In their Radar Online interview, (I think it was in the written interview that followed up the video interviews), Kevin and Jodi alleged that Kate wrote none of the book -- it was all Beth -- and that there are hard feelings about that now. They said something like, Kate and Beth would go away on writing trips and Kate would go in a room and sleep or do other things while Beth wrote. If that's true at all, I'm sure it makes answering that question a touchy subject.

Oh DUH -- I just remembered she's not promoting Multiple Blessings -- the one she wrote with Beth -- she's promoting the new book. So I guess Beth's involvement wouldn't be an issue. Yes, I'm a little slow to catch on! :rolleyes1

I've actually seen a few instances where Kate mentions Beth as "putting things on paper" while she recollected.

Me too, I've never seen it questioned that Kate doesn't give Beth credit for the book they wrote together.

I think this thread is dragging down the DIS. It just took me 5 minutes to post a reply on another thread.
LOL. I've read where some have had trouble with the Dis with slowness. I've been lucky and so far it's speed as usual.

Actually is was Multiple Blessings. If you look at the clips where she's signing books and at the books people are holding in line, it is Multiple Blessings. During the interview she talked about how it took a year and 1/2 to write it and that she re-lived it all and couldn't believe it was their story, story of what they'd gone through. So you were right the first time!:goodvibes

What you've got to remember is that these firms are doing this for publicity FOR THEM. They're not doing it because the family have 8 kids and getting special treatment "because".

Publicity for the firms pure and simple.....I'll bet that companies are queuing up to 'host' events for the Gosselins - it's nationwide publicity for them.

Understood. I also know I have an old fashioned view of parenting--that it's a parent's job to protect their children. A billion firms can que up to host events hoping to profit off the 8 kiddos. I think loving parents with the long term best interests of their kids put up a stop sign.

Everyone here is so on top of things so I'm sure this has already been posted on popeater.

There are pictures of them riding motorcycles with the American Chopper guys.

All I can say is HELMETS PEOPLE!
I know PA does not require motorcyclists to wear a helmet, but for God's sake you have 8 beautiful reasons to protect your brain (what little they may have as of late). Those kids need your heads intact, not scrambled on the pavement! Can I go smack them both now?

I was going to post this too, because Tuttle usually wears a helmet.
But come to think of it, he didn't when I saw him at Homestead before the Nascar race, he did a drive by around the track.

I would like to think there are some things her and Jon would say no to. She just said in one of today's repeats that just because TLC wants them to do something a certain way, doesn't mean she will.
I haven't seen them do any 'day out' that I wouldn't have wanted to do with my kids/grandkids. I wonder if things will have to be more private now, with the paparazzi interest.

I would have loved for my kids to have some of the opportunities these kids have had, but not if it meant I had to have all those kids LOL.

I would even take a step farther. Don't ride together!!! Yes I know that they weren't on the same bike but...You never know what will happen and the kids need at least 1 parent intact. Hey when did I become such on old lady :rotfl2:

We've been watching the marathon today off and on. I have to say I'm not impressed with TLC's "sneak peeks" of any of the shows for the "new seasons".

*J&K is just sad...DS4 asked what was going on and I told him J&K have just made some bad choices but they're taking care of their kids and left it at that with him.
*Cake Boss....really do I need my DS4 walking around saying "what the hell happened now?". Ummmm.....NO! It's one thing for it to be on the show (which will air at like 10 or something so he wouldn't normally see that!) and to be in the commercial that's airing during a "family" program! :sad2:
*The New little people show - what happened to the other little people? I never really followed them but noticed they weren't part of the commercials and thought they were quickly replaced by the "new" family.

It's been really weird watching bits and pieces of the older shows. DH's at Charlotte for the race this weekend so it's been me and the boys and it's been raining ALL day so we've been stuck inside trying to keep busy but I've managed to catch some of the shows. (I dvr'd the ones I hadn't seen before or couldn't recall seeing) Some of the things they say in the older shows is REALLY weird where the show's at now....it's almost like they knew things weren't going to last or honestly didn't have a clue where things were going to head or how big this would all be. It's just very sad all around.....The kids are amazing though! :goodvibes So darned cute! And I do love how Jon had comments (even picking on Kate) and the love the two of them showed to each other. How time changes things...

Cake Boss: That guy is obnoxious. I've seen him before on Food Network's Challenge shows and he was very snotty and obnoxious then; I'm surprised they've given him his own show. Why, so we can see more people being paid to be idiots??

Little People: It's a new show about a different little people couple, but the original "Little People, Big World" will be back with a new season. Their current season ended a week or so ago.

Jon and Kate: I'm just really speechless and can't add anything constructive about them to the thread, so I just read. :surfweb:

Ok ladies, who's watching the marathon right now?? :goodvibes

I've been watching it off & on. I felt really sad for them while watching the very first 2 shows, "Surving Twins & Sextuplets". Especially the part where Kate came in after her tummy tuck and makeover to see the kids. She said to one of them "I hope I never have to miss another week of your life again."
It's really sad that she doesn't feel that way now.

I've caught a few of the older episodes here and there. It's just so sad how much Jon and Kate have changed in a short time. They seemed so happy and normal 2 years ago. It's just all sad. I hope they can be happy again for the sake of the kids.

The kids are still as cute as ever. I caught the one where they were putting up the shelves in the garage, the 6 were so little then!

I watched a little last night and then again this evening. So far, with tonight's, I haven't seen much of the *bad* stuff. I'm guessing I may pick up more of that as the season's go on so tomorrow I should notice a difference in them.

The kids are just adorable.

One thing I saw a noticed was when each kid was getting their "special day" alone with J&K, was during/after the gumball incident. I felt it was wrong for Jodi to say "the kids got into the gumballs". They brought the gumballs to her and she knowingly gave it to them after the kids lied and said "yes, we can have gum." I felt she led Kate to believe they got into the gum and were chewing it and she in turn let them continue to have it.

First, I thought the whole scene was "me" ranting and raving about 'who gives gum to 3 year olds?!" but I quickly saw it was not me...it was Kate. So, that outburst was like looking in a mirror for me and not something I'd have edited out either.

You and me both...no way would I give a bunch of 3 year olds gum!! :scared1:

I noticed that too. I hadn't noticed it the first time around. She definately made it seem they already had gotten into the gum.

As for Kate saying she hopes she never misses a week of their lives, in another show, after she and John go away, she says it again. But really, don't we all feel that way when they are little? I know I did. But I did enjoy vacations away from them also.

I did just watch a program from this season, just before the college kids fiasco, and I thought it pretty much looked like the earlier ones. If I didn't know, because of the kids ages, I wouldn't have perceived a difference. I've now seen the scene where they are in the chair together so many times today (Monday's teaser), that I think they are both giving each other more wistful looks, rather than nasty looks. Maybe it's wishful thinking.
