Jon and Kate Plus 8, Official Thread-Part 3

I am working on finding the specifics .. but it's been mentioned on 2 blogs (and apparently confirmed by a Reading, PA radio station) that Jon was out at a bar last night, when Kate mentioned on Larry King Live that he was home with the kids.

Wouldn't surprise me. Jon has been acting like he's single...maybe he has been since the fall and is just tired of pretending? Seems that Kate may be trying to hold it together so she can continue the show and the salary...Jon is messing it up for her big time. But then again that's no surprise. Kate sees everything that can go away tomorrow - Jon thinks only of himself - he doesn't think more than one minute ahead of now and has acted that way since the beginning of the series.

I know I am not a regular poster, but I do read your thread and know that Paul Peterson and his group A Minor Consideration has looked into Jon and Kate and this is what he has to say about them.

My favorite is how at the end the say the show allows Kate to stay home with her children. Not these days with all the traveling she does.

There was talk that the condo in Utah was solely for Jon. I thought that was strange and I thought it was strange that just he and Cara went away. :

You think it's weird that Jon and Cara went?? I don't...they both like to ski and snowboard and Kate and Maddy don't. I take trips without DH all the time and occasionally he's gone on trips without me.

Over spring break I went to Disney with DD16 because DH had to work and DD18 wanted to visit friends instead. Not weird to me.

Yes I thought it was weird. The whole show is about them being a family TOGETHER. That episode Jon and Cara were gone for days skiing and Kate was at Sesame Street Live with the rest of them. So yes, that's strange to me.

Another interesting tidbit....
Season 1 there were only 8 episodes.
Season 2 there were 12
Season 3 there were 31
Season 4 there were 41

That's ALOT of filming, wouldn't you say?

On it's own the trip isn't too weird...but the whole season was out of character for the family. It's adding it all up that was weird. I get doing some things separately - makes everyone feel a bit more special and sometimes just works with family life - but a whole season of awkwardness and excuses for being separate. Makes me wonder....

I think that is what bothers me the most. She is taking it so far that now she is AWAY from the kids too much. I think every parent needs time away but don't say I can stay home with my kids when your job requires you to be traveling out like a business woman. That's not staying home with the kids. Maybe she should have said that she gets to stay home with the kids a few days while others she is out traveling. Otherwise she is out doing a job and not at home with her kids. I would not consider Kate a stay at home mother if she is obviously working outside the home.

I think its time for a break from the show. If family is most important then put it first. I'm tired of her words not matching her actions at all.

As for Jon...time will tell. I highly doubt he will keep putting on a show if he doesnt want to be with Kate anymore. If he is doing it for money then Kate and Jon deserve to live miserably together.

I think my sister talks nasty to her DH. They married when I was 11. I remember thinking that if I ever fell in love, I hoped I would not talk to the person I loved like that. My parents certainly didn't talk like that to each other. I know that my sister dearly loves her DH though. I am not sure how she would carry on if anything ever happened to him. For some reason, he has always allowed her to talk that way to him and so, she does.

I used to talk to an old boyfriend pretty bossy. In fact, sometimes when I hear Kate, I think of how I treated him. (yikes) Then, I dated DH and found out right away he wasn't going to be talked to in that way. 22 years later (well, really 24!) we still do not talk that way to each other.

I think I did it because the other guy "let" me. In fact, BIL and I got into it one day and I was all up in his face giving him heck. I can't think of another person on this planet I would have done that to--certainly not DH or my other BIL. I did it because I knew I could. he was used to it and I knew he wouldn't *hate* me for that bad behavior. Ugh. I felt terrible about that episode and called him and apologized right away. He really didn't think a thing of it... :(

I can tell you my DH wouldn't put up with Kate for 5 mins. I wonder though, if she were married to a different type of man, if she'd act out the way she does?
Wow. Blame the victim much?
:) Jon seems to make poor decisions and behave irresponsibly, he certainly won't be allowed to talk and have something come flying out of his mouth! I think he's in time out right now, and will be supervised 24/7 until he learns his lesson. (or has an unfortunate accident)
Kate doesn't have much of a filter either.
I did laugh at the comment that at the girls school, they are not concerned with things like the TV show and so are unaware of the controversy. It is an Amish school?!
I doubt that very many eight year olds watch much TLC.
You know the more I think and read about these people the more I suspect they have been separated for a while. ...
Sounds like they've been building up to going public with this separation and continuing the show with Kate and the kids on their own. I think part of what Kate is ticked about is that he has messed up the timing, ....
Anyone else wondering the same thing?
That's what I have been saying.
True. Those little kids work, no question about it. The show HAS to have them because that's why people watch! Who the heck would watch just Jon and Kate? I doubt many would so the kids are necessary to the show, they ARE the show.
I don't know about that. If someone were to set up cameras and film you as you went about your normal day, would you be working more than you were prior to the appearance of the cameras?

Imagine that I set up a camera in my infant's bedroom and film him/her all day and night. I then broadcast the footage of the baby eating, sleeping, crying and pooping on my cable channel (BabyTV, all baby, all the time). I haven't violated any child labor laws, because my child is not laboring.

Now that ya'll bring it up, it's got me wondering. They were in the new house at christmas, so why wouldn't Kate want to show it off. I know if I had a new huge house, I would be showing it off and enjoying it at the holidays.

I don't know, if their classmates were on a TV show, then they would most likely be interested in it. Parents of classmates might also be interested and have the show on. It is very likely that a child of any age would be watching JK+8. My child knows who they are and he's only four.

He even asked me why I like JK+8 so much! I don't really like them all that much anymore, but I can't seem to stop watching!!!!!!

I think the tape you mentioned is of the teacher and an EX boyfriend NOT Jon.

Disclaimer: I did not watch the tape ;)

This clip was of Jon suppose to be leaving by a back door and getting in the car. It has arrows pointing to and saying "Jon" but it could be anyone. There was no zoom in, and it never showed the persons face or getting in and the car leaving. Just really odd if I wanted to document a tid bit like that, it would not be so questionable.

I ahve been doing documentation of damage for my current job, you show the front of the house, the damaged area and the affected areas. The credibility with this video is about zero for me.
But, i still think Jon has a relationship with her and is going to pay dearly.

The saying watch what you ask for, you just may get it....:surfweb:

The true test will be if anyone from the past such as Beth or any past family member/friend comes forward and gives their opinion on Jon's behavior. They are probably sitting back laughing at Kate's troubles! Karma!!!

I don't know - I just think all of this is so sad. I know someone already posted that, but it really is quite depressing if you sit down and think about it. Those poor kids. That poor family!

Jon & Kate did it to themselves. Greed. Fame. Fortune. Not so good in the grand scheme of things, especially when you allow these things to change you.

Yup, my kids have watched many of the earlier episodes of J&K. Heck, my oldest daughter's ballet class is made up of 8-9 year olds and many of them watch the show. My daughter will come home and say so and so said that Alexis is their favorite or they love the Disney episode!

It is very sad. Even though Kate makes me crazy, I wouldn't wish for all this to happen. I used to like Kate in the beginning seasons when she wasn't quite as demanding/controlling. No matter what, they are a family and unfortunately J&K's decisions have brought this all on. Sadly, it is depressing, I totally agree. I for one didn't want to see their family unravel like this. Of course my concern, as have been many people on this thread, is for the kids. Who knows what kind of lasting effects all this attention and being on camera will have? I certainly wouldn't have done it. What I would like is for J&K to own up to it and say they know the show wasn't a good idea because nothing NOTHING is worth jeopardizing your kids' lives. But we all know how Kate feels about it...

I'd be curious to know this, myself. That would further prove Kate is lying.

That doesn't necessarily prove that Kate is lying.

It means that she thought Jon was home with the kids where he was supposed to be instead of out again acting like an idiot.

Point taken, but if she doesn't know who's watching her children, then she needs to get herself home and take care of things. Of course, there may contractual obligations that she can't get out of, but still.

agreed. I don't think it's proof of Kate lying.

they HAVE to know by now, where ever Jon goes .. there will be someone with a camera. and if it turns out he was out at a bar while she was speaking, telling people he's home with the kids? I don't think that makes Kate a liar, I think it makes Jon disrespectful as a co-parent and spouse... further thumbing his nose at the whole thing.

We don't know what the arrangement of their relationship is right now. Jon may be fulfilling contractual obligations so the show can continue through season 5. They have an option on season 6 .. if they can get this one finished, then they might be able to opt out without a big financial hit.

I'm not very good at this quote thing! Kate doesn't have a filter, but SHE is in charge of the show and the life; that's why Jon doesn't speak.

If Mady and Cara go to a school where the kids have TV's in their homes, they will become aware of the scandal about their family.

Now the last part is the grey area of reality tv and child labor. Reality is a relatively new genre and this has not been addressed by the law (I believe). However, no minor should be subject to having their entire lives broadcast on tv, for profit or not; with no regulation. That should be a right of a legal adult, but a child has no say. Therefore guidelines need to be enforced. This is more than a mom with a videocamera. This is permanent lights and microphones set up and lots of people in and out of the house all day. Not to mention TV appearances and photo shoots. It's not normal or desirable. I wouldn't want it for my kids.

It begs for regulation!

I thought Jon was basically BEGGING for help OUT when he was sitting on the couch in that interview and said "It is really hard for me, because I can't just be Jon, I have to be Jon and Kate plus 8 all the time, and it's hard"

I thought, well your an adult, so don't do the show anymore, but he doesn't have a choice, it's all up to Kate . SHe would make his life hell and leave him if he dropped the show. . So he just sat on the couch and whined about it, hoping someone woudl hear him.

I also thought it was odd that he wanted to be "just Jon" I thought, but even in "real life" (whatever that means to them at this point) you are a married man with eight kids, so you are "jon and kate +8" you are more than yourself now, you are a family. He sounded like he wanted to be on his own.
