Maybe they didn't mention the organic food because that will come into play with Emril.
maybe... but Kate had bordered on obnoxious with the attitude about organic food in the past. why stop mentioning it just for Emeril?

I've watched through the installation of the solar panel/big projects. (about halfway through the episode) Surely Kate has been given a crappy edit.... surely she has. Or she thinks she's funnier than she really is. Or both.

I agree. I make my DD wear a helmet on her tricycle. :rotfl: (I'm nuts, I know.)

not nuts at all.

our dd is a living example of how much damage can occur in a minor fall from a bike (a child's size not an adult's) and how much protection a helmet can provide.

about 5 years ago dd was riding REALY slowly on her bike (practicing making turns) and she simply lost her balance. she fell onto the asphalt road and as a result broke chunks out of her 2 front teeth. since they are adult teeth she's had to have bonding done to them (and more than once because it does'nt hold up that well and it's not advised to get veneers until they become adults). she also broke her arm-that alone resulted in over $50,000 in med bills in the first 30 days (she's had to have a subsequent surgery on the arm and we've surpassed the $100,000 mark:scared:).

her head however was not injured-and it was entirely because of her helmet. the helmet only had a small scratch on the outside but if you turned it upside down and looked inside you could see how the protective cushioning cracked and collapsed (one small pull on each side of the helmet and it literaly pulled apart and opened like an egg shell). doctors said that had she not been wearing a helmet her skull would have taken the brunt of the fall (she fell from the bike, head and left arm hit the ground first, she kind of bounced and came down on her mouth).

it drives me crazy when i see kids or adults bike or skate without helmets.

wow... I'm so glad she wasn't hurt more seriously! I hope the worst of the surgery and other repair work is behind you!

I'm just basing my statement on what I'm thinking is...Would I want to miss precious time and memories with my children to satisfy my own greediness and popularity? Personally, I wouldn't. And I only have one child.

Last year, I went to Texas with my best friend (no kids) for 4 days. It wasn't the most comfortable feeling knowing I couldn't be there in a moments notice if something happened.

Maybe I'm just a worry wort, but I couldn't do what she does, even for the money, for this long.

I feel the same. A friend and I debated a short weekend trip to Disney this weekend and I didn't know if I'd be able to do it (leaving my boys for the weekend). It ended up that the trip fell through so I stressed about it over nothing. My boys have NEVER been away from me over night except my oldest the night I had my youngest and the other nights I was in the hospital my DH was at home with him. I am just weird like that though - I do not trust many with my kids. They are truly my everything and I don't know what I'd do if anything happend to either of them. I guess not having my parents around growing up has made me more aware of that and I try to overcompensate by being there as long as I possibly can. We're lucky enough to have a nanny come to the house and I only work literally around the corner (no more than 10 minutes away) at the fire department so I'd be able to get there right away if anything were to ever happen. I do pop in during my lunch or whenever I have time to check in on them. I'm working very hard on trying to "let go" but I'm not doing so well. I guess I certainly couldn't do what Kate's doing at all.

Do you work outside the home? And do you feel the same way about parents who have jobs that keep them out of the home quite a bit?

I do work outside the home and feel terrible for parents who aren't at home as much as they would like to be. I think that's the important part - doing what's best for the family's comforte level as well as the parents. Do I think people who are never home are bad parents? Yes sometimes I do. Do I think people who are stay at home parents are bad parents? Yes sometimes I do. I think there's a very fine line for a good balance in each family. It takes a lot of work from everyone - lots of talking, listening and picking up on actions of everyone involved - to find a happy medium for their family. Do I think that's happening with the Gosselin's right now? Not so much.

Today.....I am Kate....just ask my DH John ;)

I will give you all the details later, but just let me tell you that he invited people over so I had to clean the house.....(well, he said, "it's just my dumb friends you don't really need to clean) uh yeah...I do...then this morning he tells me that his friend is bringing his wife so now I have to not only clean, but I have to be entertaining!! (I really don't like people at my house in "MY" space)

I have flipped out so many times today...so wish me luck on putting on the happy face in a 1/2 hour when people get here!!!

Just one detail.....DH went to Tractor Supply and DIDN'T USE THE COUPON I HAD!!

Oh yeah...one more detail, he let the cat outside after I hollered, "shut the door the cat is heading your way!!" GRR

I am Kate--hear me roar!!

LOL you sound like me this weekend! DH could do nothing right.:rotfl:

Unsubscribing - this thread has gotten downright judgmental and almost hateful of choices others make.

It's a bash Kate board now.

Yikes...I'm sorry you feel that way. This is really the only "discussion" involving J&K that I take part in because I've read some other links that were either a total love fest or hate fest and I couldn't see myself taking part in either. I don't love or hate this family or anyone in it. There are things I agree with, disagree with, wish I could do for my family and learn things I will never do with my family. It really makes me enjoy those special moments my family has.

I'll be packing for Disney Wednesday at 10am .. :cool1:

Lucky!!! Have fun!

Hey ladies,

The famous Disney episode of J&K will be on this Wednesday @ 10am! :goodvibes

I've never seen this entire episode - I guess I'll have to set the DVR.

even with a coupon, I'm pretty sure the helmets are cheaper than the heads :lmao:

on a more serious note? that was appalling, IMO. There's NO excuse for a child (ANY child) to be on a bike with the helmet hanging on the handle. Helmets are important. Really important.

LOL totally agree! DH's nephew was here over Easter and he tried the "I don't wear one at home" business. Well, that doesn't work with Aunt Lynn. You follow the rules or you sit here and watch everyone else have fun. :rolleyes1 As my DS4 will tell you, "Mommy is mean AND evil!" :rotfl: and boy does she enjoy it!! Working where I do, seeing and/or hearing about the terrible things guys see when they go on calls I think makes me a little more parinoid in general.

Gosh - I'm glad yuor DD's ok. Thankfully she was wearing that helmet. I'm sure the broken arm and teeth were no fun either but that's minor compared to what "could have" happened. :grouphug:

I also meant to add the I haven't watched the special yet so I've got to make time for that. We watched the marathon yesterday on and off. Then, this morning, DS4 climbed in bed and fell back asleep. When he woke up, he rolled over and said "Mommy, could you handle six babies?" Umm what??? Mommy was just waking up too! She can't handle questions like that before 7 am. :rotfl: So I tried calmly to answer "I don't know...what do you think?". He replied "of course you can mom!". I don't know where the question came from - all he would tell me is he was "just thinkin' about it". Gotta love little minds. I love his confidence in me....eighte kids though...I don't know. :rotfl:

I would definitely not consider myself a Kate-hater, and I have stood up for her more than once early on in this thread, but she acted just terrible in last night's episode. It was almost like she was trying to be rude to Steve Thomas - even in the interview chair.

Let's hope it was editing that made her look so bad.

If I was the producer of my own show, though, it would be hard for me to allow the show to be edited to make me look like an ogre. I wonder if this is a persona she continues to portray for ratings.

if that's the case, then it's the persona she portrays at speaking engagements as well. I just don't understand why people are so drawn to her. The show, I understand .. in last night's episode, I thought the kids were adorable. They're really developing cute personalities. And do they love the dogs or what?!

The kids are really adorable, I agree. I was surprised at how well the dogs seem to interact with them and it appears they are being trained - I noticed one sit when Kate was trying to get it to fetch the stick.

I will be curious to see how Kate behaves towards Emeril.

I'm not a Kate-hater either but man, last night's episode was hard to stomach! I caught myself feeling really bad for Steve Thomas when he was so clearly trying to do a good job and be an easy person to get along/work with. Kate was behaving horrible towards him, like she was completely put out that he was even there! It was very strange...I felt like she was openly rude to him both to his face and during the interview portion. Wow, I really hope it was due to the fact she was having a bad day and that this is not a glimpse of what we can expect in future episodes.

I agree, the kids were ADORABLE last night! They really are cute and I just love that age when they say the cutest things and their imaginations are still so vivid! I loved the part where Cara and Mady were hiding in the solar panel boxes. Too cute. Apart from Kate, everyone else seemed to really be enjoying themselves. :goodvibes I wonder if she's getting fed up with having camera/crew in the house? Maybe she'd rather just do speaking engagements? I know that I certainly don't have the necessary personality to handle that kind of chaos!

So is that what people have been reporting she's like at the speaking engagements? That's soooo not good or professional if it's true. :confused3

If the solar panels were free why was Kate so worried about how much they cost and how much money she was going to save in comparison to their price? Does anyone know for a fact they were free?

My DVR stopped recording during the credits, so I don't know about the solar panels... but the LED lights were provided by EarthLED

I would think it's safe to assume that the panels were given for promotional consideration, as is most of what's seen on JK8.

I would be willing to be J&K did not pay for those panels. I saw a promo for Steve Thomas's new show on TLC, so I think this eposide was just advertising for that.

We have looked into solar panels in the past, and we would not be able to recoup the cost during the useful life of the panels.

I'm not sure if you were on the 2nd thread or not .. but I'm sure I've mentioned it on this one .. I saw Kate last month. She spoke at a local church. I blogged about it here. Most of what else I know about the weekend Kate was here is second hand information, coming from people who attend the host church, who saw her at lunch, Target, the book signing, and went to the second speech. The local buzz was not good. I believe what I've heard is true, but I have no reason not to... I trust the people I've talked to. But I was raked over the coals pretty good over what I posted, since I didn't actually experience first-hand what I wrote about. Not interested in going through that again. LOL.

Whether the actual panels were free or not - I'm sure J&K didn't pay Steve Thomas and crew to install them.

I didn't watch it that closely, but I thought her concern was about how much it was going to save her to use solar. I don't remember her asking about the cost of the installation or of the panels.

It's so hard for most of us to imagine, but they really don't pay for anything we see them do or use on the show. Actually they are comped some things not specific to the show like the Lane furniture. They were featured on their website. She keeps on pretending though...K-mart layaway, yeah right. :thumbsup2

Are you guessing that is the case, or is there new info out there?

I watched some of it on the rerun last night, but I was doing other things and didn't see most of it.

Those of you who don't think they're doing enough to say they're green, they've got to start somewhere. This is what they did in, what, a week or so? No one just turns on a (LED) light switch and becomes all green. This is a starting point, and it's probably more than most people do. I know I don't have solar panels, nor do I plan to have them in the near future, but we consider ourselves a fairly green house (not a greenhouse).

What more would you have liked to see on the Go Green special?

I would have liked to see them follow up on some of the things Sara Snow taught them, for starters. Do they still recycle? Also, addressing the use of SO many paper products. If it's more beneficial for them to do that, say why. If it isn't, then help them find something that works. I've noticed that the children eat things out of individual bags/cups at meals. It would be more cost effective and generate less waste if she bought snacks in bulk and portioned them out among the children that way. A green episode would have been a perfect tie in to the organic eating lifestyle Kate has preached about so much. They could have discussed water conservation in the bathrooms .. high efficiency, eco-friendly appliances in the kitchen ..
