Jon and Kate Plus 8, Official Thread-Part 3

When the rift occured between the Gosselins & Jodi, Jodi stayed out of the media & her sister got all the information accross. It made Jodi look sweet and innocent, while her sister did catch quite a lot of flack for her blog.

I think Jon is using Jodi & Kevin. Maybe he played upon their love for the kids, maybe he played upon their love for the kids AND they got paid, but I think Jon is behind them coming forward, and is using them to tell his side.

I also think if Jodi & Kevin really believe that publically accusing their mother of having an affair, and essentially confirming that their father was having one was really helpful to the children, then they are seriously mistaken.

They should have stayed out of the media...it doesn't help the situation at all.

Star magazine got the story out there for money...pure and simple...not for any concern for anything else.

People did the same thing when they put Kate and her side on their magazine, make money. What do you suggest then Kate's brother say nothing just sit back and lnot say one word for 8 of his family members. If Kate was taking a belt to them each day he say nothing either. Abuse unlike love is not only in the eye of the beholder.

I just thought of something that would take this whole mess to the next level. What if something written in the Star is untruthful, (for example this supposed contract Kate has with Jon allowing him to have girlfriends on the side), and Kate sues Aunt Jodi and Uncle Whats-his-name. Can you imagine?

If that is the cae she certainly should sue.

Took the words right off my keyboard. ;)

TLC has changed the program guide for May 25:

Jon & Kate Plus 8
Turning 5 & The Future!
TV-G

When we last saw Jon & Kate, they were on a different page. Where are they now? In this one-hour, up close and personal season premiere, side by side Jon and Kate address what the future holds for their family.

cha-ching for TLC ...

Madge,
I think they might want ot change the rating to PG-13, :rotfl::rotfl:

Wednesday's appearance was the last stop on her travel schedule "for awhile," she said, adding that she planned to spend more time at home. Speaking engagements, along with the TLC show, have been a boon for the family. The couple that was once unemployed, who swallowed their pride and haggled with utility companies, is now afforded opportunities they could only dream of before.

according to this article, Kate's last appearance was last night. not today.

The only direct quote is "for a while". She might have said, "I haven't had anything to eat for a while", or "I might go lie down for a while". :confused3

Sounds to me like poor sweet misunderstood Aunt Jodi is making a tidy income off of this. Anyone know how much the Star paid Jodi and Kevin for their story? I'm sure it didn't come free.

Really, come on. Her next speaking engagement was the next day!

I guess, in Kate's case, a while is less than 24 hours.
:lmao:

Kate Gosselin said the stop in Muskegon, located about 35 miles northwest of Grand Rapids, was the last on her travel schedule for a while. She said she plans to spend more time at home.

Above is the quote from the AJC, last stop on her travel schedule seems pretty straight forward, no ambiguity here.

I 100% agree with you that this should be addressed in a legal forum. It is so sad though to think for me at least how in the heck did this become a legal problem. It is a show where the parents are right there. You would think, would is the word I stress, the parents would above anyone else have the childrens best interest in mind. Obviously they did not. I was thinking today Kate is running her own sweat shop. Her kids sadly are not even protected under the law from their own mother's greed. There is no mandatory percentage of money being put in trust for the children. No independent party mandated to oversee the best choices for the childrens share of the profit to guarantee them funds for college, therapy whatever they choose to do with it.

Paul Peterson - a former child actor - has quite a bit to say about this show - and the long term ramifications.. It's sad.. :(

I would love to see two things happen. First TLC should be flooded with calls and emails demanding this series be pulled. It is an insult to the public. Secondly, there should be a call for lawmakers to include young performers in reality series to be treated and guarded by the same laws that govern all young performers.

I agree..

Well, I think there is a difference opening up a bank account for a child who gets maybe $100 from grandma than this situation. These are now professional children and the law need to step in and guarantee their monies are being invested and secured for their future also there needs to be a professional accountant who oversees the daily income. This is not chump change.

Again - in total agreement..

Exactly.
Those 8 children are the current breadwinners. Their earnings need to be protected. It's the least than can be done for kids who's childhood is blatantly exposed on nationwide TV in some of the most unthinkable ways imaginable. (I'll never get over some of the insensitive toileting issues. UGH.) The children won't ever get their privacy back. But at the very least some ethical third party should supervise the expenditures with an eye toward the future for the good of all. Right now it appears much is based on what Mom and Dad want, period.

Goes without saying that this would be in the children's best interest..

There is more to having the children's best interests in mind than a healthy bank account. While money is nice, it doesn't buy happiness as Kate and Jon and the kids, unfortunately, are finding out. What about spending time with them, playing with them, letting them be kids without the glare of the cameras, loving their father, taking care of them yourself instead of the current nanny of the month, etc.

Also, someone mentioned that they hoped the teachers were monitoring what was happening at school with mady/cara and the other students. I am sure the teachers are doing their best; however, they will not be able to hear everything or be with the girls all the time. So, unfortunately there are going to be things said and cara.mady will hear what is going on--and I am sure that they already have. Even the septuplets may have heard a comment or two at preschool.

How many times have we all heard the saying, "Money doesn't buy happiness"? You need not look any further than former child actors and actresses whose parents not only stole all of their earnings, but lived vicariously through their children..

There is no possible way that at the very least, Mady and Cara have not heard the whispering, rumors, and suffered the tauntings of other children - unless they wear ear plugs every day or have been removed from school..:(

Lets face it for TLC to pull the plug on the show we would all have to stop watching it and well it's a train wreck and we CAN'T

I haven't purposely watched the show for quite some time.. If it happens to be on while my televsion is on for "background noise", sometimes I will leave it on - until the screeching and humiliation starts.. At that point, I definitely switch the channel.. I guess I keep hoping things will change - but sadly they are only changing for the worse.. :sad2:

I have no problems with never watching another episode of J&K+8. And, if I knew TLC was shredding everything they have prepared for season 5 I'd applaud them for finally showing some ethics and standards instead of exploiting a troubled family for profit as they're doing now to get the show ready to air May 25.

I agree..

I wish calls to TLC would/could get the show pulled, but IMO they have too much money already invested in the new season to make that costly decision and as we all know, their decisions are ruled by money and not what is best for the children/family.

A good example of an old saying: "Money is the root of all evil".. :(

Yes, we should call lawmakers in each state, (especially PA where the Gosselin's live and whose laws govern the conditions of their work and pay, etc), asking them to enact laws to protect all minors in every aspect of the entertainment industry. In PA there are NO laws for children involved in ANY form of the entertainment industry, let alone reality tv. CA has some great laws on their books protecting children in all aspects of entertainment (print photos, reality tv, radio, tv, movies, etc) as do a few others, but most states have nothing on their books and we definitely need to write our lawmakers asking them to protect children from all types of exploitation in the entertainment industry. Check out www.minorcon.org and you'll find a wealth of info from Paul Petersen's group and their work for minors in the industry. You'll also find info on the laws that exist in CA and the protections that the Gosselin children should, but never had.

I find it odd that the children are not considered "working" - because without the children, there would be no show..

Because it's a dirt bag magazine most often filled with half truths, and most would not be caught in this magazine giving an interview unless they were paid the big bucks. This is a magazine that preys on lies and usually hurts the people being talked about while doing so. They only care about sensation..and to heck with the people they are hurting.

So we can all make "assumptions" about Jodi and her husband - since we have no concrete evidence that they were in fact paid for that interview - but we shouldn't make "assumptions" about what Kate & Jon may or may not be doing with the money that they earn from the show?? Seems contradictory to me.. :confused3

I just sent an email off to that that website a minor consideration, that Paul Peterson website perhaps he can make some sort of contact with the family and do some sort of intervention I urge everyone to email too

http://www.minorcon.org/index.html#contacts

Please keep us updated if you hear back.. That family needs a lot of help right now..

In Kate's own words:

Kate Gosselin tells Mich. crowd spotlight is tough
Associated Press
8:30 AM CDT, May 14, 2009
MUSKEGON, Mich. - Kate Gosselin, a co-star of the TLC reality series "Jon & Kate Plus 8" who recently has taken a pounding in the media with her husband Jon, says it's difficult seeing stories about herself.

Gosselin made the remarks Wednesday during an appearance at the Frauenthal Center, The Muskegon Chronicle reported.

"This is certainly not what I envisioned I was signing up for," Gosselin said. "When I see magazines in stores it's really difficult. It amazes me there is an industry that follows you around and writes stories about you.

"It destroys peoples' lives. I need you to know, don't believe what you read unless you hear it from that person."

On its Web site, Us Weekly recently described an over-friendly relationship between Gosselin and her married bodyguard, Steve Neild, that "caught the attention of her husband -- and has become the talk of many locals" in their Pennsylvania community.

And People magazine's Web site quoted Gosselin as saying she and her husband have been struggling for months.

Gosselin on Wednesday described People's reporting as the most accurate recently.

"This week I'm on the cover of four magazines. One is true, three are not," she said.

Gosselin previously has denied having an affair with Neild. Jon Gosselin has denied cheating with a 23-year-old schoolteacher, and he has apologized for putting his family in an "awkward situation."

Kate Gosselin said the stop in Muskegon, located about 35 miles northwest of Grand Rapids, was the last on her travel schedule for a while. She said she plans to spend more time at home after the visit.

"The last couple weeks have been interesting," she said. "I had to address that."

TLC's most popular series attracts an average audience of more than 2.8 million viewers as the Gosselins, along with their eight children, face the wholesome, everyday challenges of family life.

The new, 40-week season will premiere May 25 with an hourlong edition.

------

So she has a problem with articles about her and her family appearing in magazines - and then turns around and gives the most damaging article of all - "We May Split" - to People magazine???

And her assessment of the past few weeks and all of the rumors flying around in regards to Jon cheating; her cheating; them living apart already; the possibility (in her own words) of their being a split "interesting"???

I wonder if she even hears herself when she talks?? :confused3

What a sad, sad situation for those poor little kids..:sad2::sad2:

So you think the Star is the place to take it?? I'm sorry....if the kids are being abused mentally or physically a magazine is not the place for it.

I still personally think it makes Kevin and Jodi look bad...

Okay, I just read the People article. Wow! So much for doing things in "private". She really threw Jon under the bus. I really wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt, but she really has blinders on.

She says since the twins go to a private school that doesn't "gossip" that they are fine, have no clue what is going on....Um okay. I worked in a private school (as a teacher) and let me tell you those parents gossip just as much as any other parent at a school.

Plus, their classmates know how to read. I'm sure they go to Target, Walmart, Grocery Store. Those magazines (including the one she did the interview with stating that she doesn't know if they can work it out) are all over the check-out lanes. Plus, what if they subscribe to People magazine?!

I think this article was supposed to be a "poor me" type of thing, but it really made me lose a lot of respect for her as a parent. I know I am harsh with some of my comments, but really, this woman has lost all sense of reality. Her only reality is money, money, and money.

Oh, and she says she will continue the show with or without Jon.

I also think they should have gone to a different magazine. I wonder if Star was the only one willing to write about it?

Oh please. You're playing semantics now. She made that statement (fully knowing she had 2 more engagments the next day) to win sympathy from the crowd. I'm sure tons of people walked out thinking how great Kate is to take a break and be with her kids. Do they know her new book is coming out in October? Hmmm, wonder if she'll be touring for that book?

Google & YouTube are not Kate's friend, that is for sure!;)

You are 100% entitled to your opinion. This is not a main stream media story, well to start it was not. With all the problems in the world I don't think Time or Newsweek would have cared to even read an email from Kevin and Jodie. Obviously there are many people who have concerns for the children. When I watched the video of Kevin and Jodie I took away from it that they want Kate and Jon to work things out and for Kate to listen to someone to step back and look at what the situation is and how now it might not be too late to change the future. Tough love is sometimes what it takes and if that means going to Star the only magazine that would listen then that is what they had to do. Kate already had PR people, a manager ways to get her story out there Kevin & Jodie in the video just look like two regular folks.
