Jon and Kate Plus 8, Official Thread-Part 3

Okay I just read the article from parentdish. 1. Kate's smile is too forced and weird. 2. In the article is says that Kate does most the talking. 3. Kate says she won't go back to the way it was before the show? (imo she has lost her mind) 4. Kate goes on to say that the show is their family job so they can stay home together. (she's hardly at home these days). The article just backed up my opinion that Kate has let the show, fame and the wealth go to her head.

Okay let the attacks start.pirate:
no attacks from me, although I don't know that I reacted quite as strongly to the article as you did. :upsidedow

1. Kate's smile is weird .. too much whitening and straigtening make it look kind of fake. But that's not a surprise to me, though. Same with Jon's teeth. Comes with the territory.

2. Kate definitely does the talking, it's true! She said that in her appearance that I may or may not have seen last month ;)

3. Of course she wouldn't go back to life before the show -- she wanted a show, and shopped a video around. She played the lottery and won, IMO. At what cost? Yet to be seen ...

4. She's made references to how this job allows them to be home as a family for a while... maybe she thinks as long as the kids are home with one parent, then that makes it ok? Because Kate isn't home as much as she is some months. What I wonder is what else is she doing the travel for, outside of speaking engagements? I also wonder if she enjoys the travel? My guess is no, not all of it... I don't think she enjoyed coming here at all. I never did hear where Kate stayed, if it was local or if she stayed in Louisville, where there are 4* hotels.

I think all the fame, etc. would go to anyone's head. I think it's probably very easy to get sucked into that lifestyle.

I caught a few minutes of this week's Duggar show ... they were going to some animal safari type place. The family went and helped out before they toured: cleaning, feeding animals, etc. Dad gave a talk about a servant's attitude. For as much as I don't agree with a lot of what the Duggars do .. it was wonderful to see that they continue to teach those children to give back, even while filming the TV show.

And I know they don't do that on every episode. The Duggars have taken plenty of trips without making a point of giving back. At least with this episode, we didn't see Jim Bob load up the kids, take them to a store where we're supposed to believe they buy/pay for the necessary supplies, then take them to the animal ranch, help with chores .. and then hand out promotional movie crap as they're leaving.

Did you see the episode where they were doing mission work in El Salvador? It was great. The kids were visibily touched, and Mr. said they would definitely be back, and he wouldn't be surprised if some of his kids adopted from less fortunate areas. They aren't conventional, but I really like them. They laugh at themselves instead of one another. Can you imagine Kate with a load of kids and no power in an ice storm like they were! She would have been in a hotel I'm guessing. Not that I wouldn't be!

I haven't seen many of the Duggar shows .. I'll have to look for that one in reruns. The Duggar familt portayed on this show is different than the one seen in the earliest specials that they did. And I don't mean different like the Gosselins, in the material/physical aspect. (I think we can all agree that there's been a pretty significant physical transformation of Jon & Kate in the 2 years they've been on TLC) The Duggars values and lifestyle remains the same, but not all of it is televised, or it's edited to not be so extreme (?) .. things like blanket training and their very conservative beliefs... which is all I think I'm allowed to say about that on the DIS. LOL.

But they do have very endearing qualities, and seem to be a well adjusted, happy family. :)

I lost power for 5-6 days in January/February from that same ice storm. I was in a hotel for 3 of the nights, and I only have 2 kids at home. :upsidedow

i loved the ice storm episode! i loved the kids using jim bob's old campaign signs as sleds:lmao: i realy like that they show that they do get some help from the production staff-they were forthcoming in that they got the a/d to run out for diapers (which would make perfect sense if he was coming from town), which is something you don't see on j&k but people have long speculated on. i was also impressed when jim bob explained that he and michelle realize that how they react to situations is observed by the kids and they in turn learn how to react-i strongly agree that kids learn behaviours from their parents.

did anyone catch the ice skating episode on table for 12? i give those parents credit-they aknowledge from the start that it's going to be a pain getting all those kids into and out of the skates, and there's going to be whining and they'll be tired out, but they see the benefits of doing the activities with them and charge ahead (and kudos to them for always trying to find a way of including their special needs dd in every activity as well as searching out ones to suit just her needs:thumbsup2:love:). i laughed as the dad was trying to insist that they just pack up and head home at the end of the skating while mom's explaining the benefit of getting some "comfort food" into them so the ride home will be better (and dad conceded that mom was spot on). then so mom could go out, to see dad get all those little ones fed and into bed (leading them in prayer was very sweet), then go back to feed the special needs dd, deal with the son's homework issues and (huge thumbs up for this:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2) think to get the few dishes in the sink tackled-that is definatly a set of parents that work very well together and are very supportive of one another-a great example for their kids.

Do you also give credit to Jon and Kate for that? Especially because they say that nearly verbatim when they do a lot of outings.

No, I don't give Jon and Kate credit for that. At this point in their lives, there's no way they would bring all of their kids skating like that unless there were a myriad of "helpers" there in the background to do the grunt work.

At this point, yes, they'd have helpers. When they were beginning their show (like Table for 12 is), not the case. I don't watch Table for 12. Were there no helpers?

Jon & Kate had help when they started their show... there were neighbors and volunteers coming into the house.

It's interesting to note that people have seen Jon/Kate at some of these events, the ones where Kate talks about how she's doing it on her own .. and they all say there's an entourage with her/them. Heck, Kate doesn't travel alone anymore... there's usually security or publicity people with her.

I remember reading an article that said at the beginning of the show they still had over 15 helpers a week or some high number like that. I'll try to google and find it, at this point I don't remember where (website, magazine) where I read that fact.

I couldn't believe the tree's, they are all snapped off.

I am so jealous......

I am trying so hard NOT to book a trip right now....we don't have the extra funds and I'm not working so I can't justify it. I am thinking about getting a job just so I will have money to go to Disney!! ;)

Bless my dh job, and I am thanking the other wife that put her foot down and demanded to go along to the convention in Florida. This is the 5th year in a row our dh's have a convention in Orlando. Since the convention is Thurs-Sunday, they are suppose to get Monday and Tuesday off, but the boss said if I go and the other wife goes, then they can't have off and it would be an even exchange.

Works for me.:woohoo:

ask your BFF Kate to come along .. maybe she'd pick up the bill! :rotfl:

I'm almost ;) embarrassed to admit that I should have 3 tickers going right now. I'm going on a girl's weekend in 2 weeks, our family trip later this year, and I found out Wednesday that my DD dance class will likely be dancing at WDW next summer. WDW in June .. not crazy about that :upsidedow

I'm thinking more on outings, not at home. The person I originally quoted (not the person who answered my question) was talking about going skating.

You free dining people! I'm jealous!!

No free dining for us. We're using the military deal, and my mom's birthday is October 1, so we're going to melt for a free gift card. Well, and it's still value season, so we're getting some fab digs for pennies!!

they had help on their outings, too... in fact, I don't know that there's ever been a time in the short life of this show that Jon & Kate haven't had help in some form or fashion.

isn't it awful? :( I'm not sure what part of the state you drove through to get to Bowling Green, but there are places where it literally looks like a bomb went off. And it's been 2.5 months since the storm. We finally had our debris picked up about 2 weeks ago, it's taken that long .. and they say it will be another 6 weeks or so before they've gotten everything pulled up to the roadside.

Free dining is Aug. 15th through Oct. 3rd. If you're going for Oct. 1st for your Mom's b-day, then you're eligible for free dining! Oh wait, does the military deal mean you can't use the free dining?? I was told by my TA that if you check in by Oct. 3rd, you get free dining for your whole vacay! :goodvibes
