I couldn't remember what the other thing was that irritated me - but it was the movie tie-in. This week and last week. That movie had absolutely nothing to do with St. Jude's, except for the books/toys donated to the hospital.

I'm with you on this one, Marge. I thought the show was so touching and sincere. But I really, really hated the scene with all of them on the bed, listening to Kate read from Despereaux. I know there is a lot of product placement in the show now, but this was just so forced and fake to me. UGH!

And, I can't believe no one has mentioned this -- or did I miss the explanation -- but what was up with those glasses on the arm of the interview chair next to Jon? They looked like women's sunglasses. It was very obvious to me yet nothing was said about them.:confused3

The thing I am not liking is the blatant plugs. You know what the commercials are going to be by what they are talking about on the show. As soon as they sat around with their Despereaux book and stuffed animal I knew what was coming. I still watch, but I miss the show that did not seem like a long commercial. I hope they are socking away the money because generally the cuteness factor of kids wear off and that is the only reason I am still watching.

I liked the show except the part about the movie/books/stuffed animals. I cringed when she began reading and they each had their stuffed mouse. I thought it was interesting they gave Despereaux sticker books to the kids at St. Jude's, too. I understand it's a marketing ploy, but don't insult my intelligence. It's clear the movie company said, "read the book, we'll send stuffed animals, free books for the hospital, sponser the show for the night, and maybe some movie tickets".

Marge? Marge? ::: looks around room::: who's Marge? :lmao:

All kidding aside, I'm glad it wasn't just me that felt that way about the movie promo. Like I said earlier, I don't care that they stayed at the Peabody hotel - that had nothing to do with St. Jude's. The only reason it was there was promo for the hotel to get the room free for the show. IMO, this should have been about the hospital .. and the hospital only.

I did not notice the glasses on the chair. I'll set it up to tivo tonight (the grinch in on at 8pm) and see what I think. ;)

The movie promo annoyed me a bit too.

I noticed the glasses and I just kept wondering why they were there.

Thanks for telling me the Grinch is on tonight!! I won't be home so I'm going to go set the dvr now!!!

Didn't someone up thread post that something looked strange with Kate's one eye? Maybe she got an infection or something in it from a contact lense and was wearing the glasses to help block the light. I know when I got an infection in my one eye the bright light was a killer and I wore my sunglasses everywhere for a few days even inside.

I doubt we will ever know.

Welcome to the day and age of DVR & Tivo where people aren't watching commercials so the advertisers are finding ways to plug their wares in shows. Granted some are more blatent then other but....

I think it was from her hair hanging in it!! That is all I could focus on this week. It was a little cute when she first had it done but it looks kind of odd. St Jude is one of the organizations I still donate to but, I agree, the product placement for the other items was a little much. A little like one long infomercial this week. I guess if it brings in more donations its all good.

I'm sure it wasn't their idea either, but like you I don't mean that in a bad way. I think it was a really good show and for a really good cause. I can't imagine having a small child with cancer, that is the stuff of my nightmares and those parents were so positive.

And that poor lady that had two kids at the hospital. My heart sank when she said that she had two there.

I have never posted here but really enjoy reading everyone's view on the show. I just have a quick question that maybe was talked about already so I apologize if it was. Does Kate wear any type of retainer or have braces or something? Facially she seems different to me in the more recent shows and I can't figure it out but it seems to be her mouth? Am I crazy? I know this isn't anything big but I was just curious.

Thanks!
It's been mentioned elsewhere that she may have invisalign braces.

Weren't the glasses on Jon's side? I didn't think they were sunglasses, I thought maybe Jon wasn't wearing his contacts, but maybe they asked him to remove his glasses for the interview.

Yes, they were on Jon's side. And I didn't think they were his - thought they looked a little too "feminine" for his tastes!

The show was better than I thought it would be, but the non-hospital parts were quite boring! I agree with others, at least they put a great hospital out there for people to hear about on TV. Definitely a little infomercial-eee at times...

ok. the glasses on the chair was weird. :lmao:

Kate's little speech at the end? that this wasn't about them or whatever? I'm sure she meant well, but really .. she just sort of rambled. I think it was probably a passive aggressive dig at the blogs, which is certainly her right .. but I think they need to leave those out of the show. there are probably more viewers that know nothing about the Gosselin back story than those that do, and every time they wear a shirt or make a comment like that just raises questions or perpetuates the drama.

Wait, wait, wait...weren't you the one saying the silence is deafening? Now they are (maybe) making some offhand remarks, gestures, signals, etc. to acknowledge the internet goings on, and you think they shouldn't? It may not have been you, but I bet some other people who did think that feel the same way. Another instance of our favorite couple being darned if they do...

She needed something else to say, I hate it when Kate repeats herself. I felt like a dumb dumb that needed to be told, it is better to given than to receive. Okay Kate, I heard you the first, second, third, fourth, fifth time. I'm sure there were more. I'm not a Kate basher, but "enough already".

they do tend to repeat themselves a lot, LOL. There was an episode a few weeks ago and Jon must have said the same thing over and over a dozen times.

I'm sure I probably did say that about the silence .. I'm too lazy and don't really care enough to go back and check. :rotfl:

I do get what you're saying, and a t-shirt (the one with the duct tape on the mouth comes to mind) is probably a good way to address the internet backlash without raising someone's curiosity. But to make some rambling commentary about how this episode was in no way to pat themselves on the back? C'mon .. I talked to someone last week who LOVES the show. Triple LOVES the show. Had no idea there were blogs - good OR bad - about the family. Someone like that would probably not even process that the Gosselins were there for any other reason than to raise awareness for St. Jude's. IMO, Making that comment just amplifies to the bashers the awareness (of JK8/TLC/Figure8) of comments made online about damage control.

The fact of the matter (and we all know it) is that Jon & Kate are damned if they do or damned if they don't in everything they do now. It's been that way from the beginning, probably even before the show. But, that's part of the whole being "famous" deal. You put your life out there for people to see? People will criticize. That's just the way it is.

I think that I've also said that now would be a perfect time for Oprah to have Jon & Kate come on her show, since she owns TLC now. I think it's time for them to address some of these allegations and not through the TV series.

I think it would have been better if they had given gifts or donated without having a show about it. I'm afraid that it really looked like J&K were looking for attaboys or props. Like "look at us, we're giving back"
