I watched the show last night and they stayed at a very $$$$$ hotel (one of the nicest on Maui and Maui is pricey LOL.) I'd love to stay there!! (we stayed in Lahaina) I was a little surprised they didn't do any siteseeing on Maui but maybe it's too hard with that many kids. Like they did the boat adventure but didn't go to Molokini Crater, etc. No road to Hana, no volcano, no Iao Needle, etc. I guess they just wanted a beach vacation. :)

I'm interested to see next week!!

There are probably a lot of things they will do that we won't see. We know from the interview with the swim instructor in NC that the crew was only there for 1/2 the vacation.

also they might show other things next week

ETS: there are several webisodes on the TLC website of unaired footage. Don't see any of the mentioned sites/activites yet but I don't know how the footage is released.

It was important to do those upgrades for resale value, you must not watch as much HGTV that I do. Not understanding why anyone would be annoyed at that?

As a matter of fact, I don't watch HGTV at all. I'm not a crafter/gardener and I'm not really into home remodeling, so the shows they typically show on HGTV don't really appeal to me at all. I do SOME crafts, mostly working on period costumes, making little doodads for the house that are not 'typical' and what not, but it's not what a typical crafter who makes things out of paper, glue and popsicles sticks would be into. ;)

I guess I just don't understand the point of pouring a bunch of money into a remodel if you're just going to turn around and sell it a few months later. To me, that is a total waste of money.

I am total anti craft, but love the House Hunting shows on HGTV.

Remodeling isn't a total waste of money, it helps sell your house and alot of times you get more money back than you put in. Turning attic space into a bedroom and installing new carpet is a smart thing to do if you want to sell a house. (Actually not many people want carpet now, so they should have put in hard wood floors, but that's besides the point!! ;) )

Wanting to have a lot of space is one thing. Actually needing it is another.

You still didn't answer the question, though. Who's in charge of deciding how much space a family needs?

And do you only have things you need? Or do you have things you want, too? If they have the means to get it (through their own finances or business deals), then why does it matter if the don't "need" that much space?

I watch the show House Hunters all the time and I don't think some of those families "need" more space either, but in their minds they do and who am I to tell another family how much house they need. That's not up to me to decide.

Pretty much my post...we must be on the same wavelength!! We did a remodel and it upped our value twice what it cost to do the remodel.

You said it perfectly. I could relate to them struggling, using coupons, etc. I can't relate anymore, and I look at them as being spoiled rotten. I GET why they're getting freebies, thats a given. But I don't have to like it, or enjoy watching.
I won't stop watching though!:) I still love seeing those adorable kids. But please, enough already with all these trips. Bring us back to the home, and let us all relate again.

I totally relate to the trips!! I'm a travel geek! I love the travel episodes, but I also like the organization, cooking, every day episodes.

I don't watch HGTV, either, but it's just common sense that remodels are going to up the value of a house. It's not wasted money, it's an investment.

Anyway, weren't the remodels done a couple seasons back? Or maybe last season. It's possible, too, that they didn't know they'd be moving when they remodeled. Either way, upgrading a house is a smart investment that will pay off in the end.

I thought the remodel was done when the little kids switched to beds. There wouldn't have been enough room in 2 bedrooms for 3 boys and 5 girls to all sleep in beds (the girls' room would have needed 2 bunk beds and one bed, at the very least). It was logical to find another space for Cara and Mady, one solution of which was remodeling the attic into a bedroom.

And, of course, lots of people (like me!) upgrade their home before they sell to compete in the market.

And do you only have things you need? Or do you have things you want, too?

Truer words were never spoken. Yes I have some things that are wants instead of needs in my house, but not a terrible lot of them. If they were all gone tomorrow, I might miss them but I wouldn't die without them. The way Kate talks, she is goig to just keel over dead if they don't move to a larger house when really the house they are in is fine probably.

I get that it's an investment but I think that upgrading/remodeling JUST so you can move is ridiculous. If you're going to upgrade/remodel you should at least get to enjoy it for awhile before you move on.

Also..I'm not looking forward to the whinging Kate's going to be doing once they move to the new house. Is she going to whinge over missing their current (or I guess old house now, if they've already moved which it sounds like they have) house too the way she does about their very first house?:confused3

I want to sell my apartment. It was suggested that I upgrade my kitchen so that I can get the maximum price for my apartment. I was also advised that I would most likely recoup the money I spent renovating my kitchen as opposed to selling the apartment at a lower price with a non-renovated kitchen.

Since I am obviously not selling the apartment the day the renovations are done, I will enjoy the new kitchen for a few months.

Also, as I remember it, the Gosselin's renovations were made to create more space for the kids, since the younger ones were no longer little.

Lastly, who are we to pass judgment on someone we don't know who is not here to defend herself?

The Gosselin's are loaded now and can get as big of a house as they want! It makes perfect sense to me. It looks like they will be living in the lap of luxury now. They earned it.

No, their kids earned it too!!!!. And I have to agree with a statement I read in one of the J and K blogs that children in reality shows should be compensated in the same way that other child actors are compensated. There are very strict laws in place to protect children--i.e. work hours, education and monetary compensation that includes saving for the future. Something is not right when these kids are plastered all over tv and other media sources, and yet are not protected in the same ways as other children in the entertainment business.

The remodel and carpet was awhile ago. I'm sure the twins enjoyed their room and they enjoyed the new carpet and seriously in this housing market you should do everything possible to help with the selling of your house.

If you don't want to hear Kate whine about the house (which honestly I don't ever hear her mention the first house) then don't watch. It's apparent that she annoys you so turn the channel.

Will the kids not live in the house, too? Do you know they aren't being compensated (aside from the dream trips, free toys, great clothes, life experiences, etc.)? If so, how did you find that info? If it's on a blog...not credible.

Kate does get on my nerves, but I don't watch it for her. I watch it for the sextuplets, who are the same age as my own DS.

Not necessarily, some people do it just to make more money so they can spend more on their next home and enjoy that one. Many times when you upgrade a kitchen or bathroom, you get twice as much back on it. So, if you spend $50k to upgrade your kitchen, when you sell the house you can sell it for $100k more than before you did the upgrade. Now you have $50k more to spend on your next home.

TotalSnowWhite--if I was able to spell it correctly, it would be 'my name backwards' spelled backwards. But I goofed the spelling on it and didn't realize it until it was too late. Oops. :upsidedow

one of the things a realtor or stager will tell someone selling a house is that it will sell better with new, fresh carpet. I certainly think that was a good investment on their part. And the attic remodel was necessary - I believe they were getting tight on space when the sextuplets moved out of the baby beds. Other than taking away some storage space (which may or may not be a concern to a buyer), I think their renovations were smart. I'm sure they got whatever money they put into back.

lots of people pour money into a house just before listing it, in the hopes of getting more money for their home. I don't think that's uncommon.

And I'm still giving them the benefit of the doubt. The renovations were necessary and I can't imagine Jon & Kate would deal with the construction and chaos if they knew they were moving very soon.

The Gosselin's earned this new house fair and square. I don't believe anything I read on those blogs. All they do is sprew hatred and jealously.

Carpet episode on right now. Kate said they waited to replace the ugly green carpet until the 6 were potty trained. Makes perfect sense to me.

She just said that they were going to move within the year and it was in their best interest to replace the carpet, especially upstairs when it was many different colors and didn't match.
