Jon an Kate plus 8 ?

In Kate's defense, I think with that many kids, she is always in "mommy" mode. I think Jon is the type of person that is just laid back & does whatever needs to be done. I don't see it as her trying to be bossy all the time. I have seen her go into that mind frame, but I don't think she does it all the time,& I don't think she means to.

I think if I had that many kids at that age, I would probably act the same way.:worship:

I loved seeing them on Oprah! They were totally real!!!

I was very proud of miss Mady, who is usually the drama Queen attention seeking little stinker! She was being such a good big sister. She held one of the girls on her lap and then one of her brothers. She didn't say a word! For once Cara got to be front and center!!

I think they are a great family. Jon and Kate are a real couple with 8 kids.SIX of them three year olds with big personalities! I can't imagine anyone would be all sunshine and roses all the time. Just to manage a family like that, somebody has to be the control freak in the family. I don't think Jon is subservient at all. He seems to give as good as he gets.

Jon and Kate laugh a lot too. I think they are handling this large family with a lot of grace.

More power to them!!!

ITA! Since IVF is not covered by most insurance in the US and most parents pay out of pocket, many try to get as much 'bang for the buck' as they can with each transfer, transferring as many zygotes as they can each time. This results in a high risk of high level multiples, which parents are aware of at transfer. In other countries (most notibly in Europe) where IVF is covered, patients are much more conservative about the number of zygotes they choose to implant per procedure, because they know if it does not stick, they can try again. Therefore you don't get as many high level multiples. So yes, she did make a choice to open herself up to the possiblity of high level multiples.

I suspect that this particular set as well as many other higher order multiples are actually from injectible drugs + intrauterine inseminations instead of IVF. Covered by insurance or not, I can't imagine any reproductive endocrinologist transfering 5 or 6 embryos in this day and age. With intrauterine insemination, the situation is a lot LESS controlled than IVF as doctors can't always be sure how many eggs will be released, more often resulting in higher order multiples. I'm not sure what kind of doctor orders a trigger and inseminates with a possiblity of 5 or more eggs, but obviously, it happens. And crazy things happen with just Clomid too. I have a friend with a set of quadruplets from her first round of Clomid.

BTW, no one can "implant" embryos. They can transfer embryos and hope they implant, but doctors can't implant them. If they could, there would be a lot fewer failed IVF attempts.

I will say that they are going to have a big old problem with their Mady if they don't get a handle on her attitude! That child rolls her eyes more than I have ever seen a child do...oh lord it makes me anxious. My mom would have sent my eyeballs rolling across the floor had I EVER rolled my eyes and talked back the way Mady does! MY mom actually called me after their birthday episode and said "Did you SEE the way that child stomped into the house and kicked those balloons?" Kate just said "She needs alone time...she really IS grateful for all the decorations..." Ummmm...yeah...being grouchy is fine. Being totally disrespectful to everyone around you is NOT. Then again...with 8 kids I'm sure that Mady's high strung attitude is the least of their worries!

.... The Duggars freak me out...and amaze me...that many kids and they aren't in debt. Wow.

CampbellScot:

Two observations. First off, I love this show but I do have to repeat something someone said to me once (which I think pertains to Mady): "The apple doesn't fall far from the tree". My response was "The apple never left the tree!" I think Mady is very much like her mother (as my daughter is very much like me!) It's not always a pretty picture, but I know where it comes from. :lmao:

Second, the Duggars creep me out! Sorry, I'll probably get bashed for my comments but they are downright creepy. I personally think (again IMHO) that having that my children is just irresponsible. What happens when the dad and mom pass away? (and one day it will come as it will for all of us) Where will the money come from to finish raising those children? Will it be the responsibility of the older children to raise their younger siblings? How many children are too many children? Do any of those children get any individualized attention? I personally feel like it's an assembly line of good little worker bees and don't see how any of them feel special or loved. LET THE FLAME THROWING BEGIN as I step down off of my soap box!  :scared1:

Kate has said that the babies were from IUI + injectibles.

She also said she knew her ovaries were overstimulated but went ahead anyway.

I feel the same way about the Duggars---Their older kids are raising the younger ones. Now....maybe it's just me---have you ever seen the parents kiss the kids-I watch the show & I have never seen them kiss the kids, ever. Each other--yes--but never the kids. Anyone agree?? I just find that strange!

That's what I thought.

My point was, the previous rant about IVF being covered in insurance and couples transferring too many embryos was irrelevant. I definitely think all fertility treatments should be covered by insurance, but that particular argument has no relevance here. Well, I suppose it might be if one argues that if IVF were covered by insurance, couples would choose IVF, which can be much more tightly controlled, over injecting FSH + IUI, which is significantly cheaper... $3K/cycle vs. $10-15K/cycle.

I can't find proof of this anywhere, but I SWEAR I heard somewhere that the septuplet family were the result of a canceled IUI cycle. The RE refused to continue with an IUI after seeing how many follicles were growing but they "tried at home" anyway and ended up with seven babies.

I agree the Duggars are very creepy. To tell you the truth, I wouldn't be surprised if it came out that he has more than one wife. They seem like a family that practices polygamy.

I agree that the Duggars are creepy. If you want to have tons of kids that is FANTASTIC but it seems like the older kids do most of the "raising" of the younger kids. I think that it is amazing that their house works but at what cost? Are the kids ever really able to have a childhood or their own personality?

I certainly don't think so. Otherwise, they'd be outside playing or the older kids would be doing "older kid" things. They wouldn't be doing the laundry, cooking, cleaning & taking care of the younger ones. Poor Michele, she seems so sweet, yet totally brainwashed. :guilty: :sad2:

In regards for the Duggars...is anyone else waiting for the day when the story comes out about one of those kids doing something awful to rebel? I don't mean that I want it to happen but you just know that it will.

In regards to Jon and Kate...God, I would love to know that Kate's secret. On their website, it says that she has PCOS. One of the biggest issues with PCOS is that it's hard to maintain a healthy weight...even if you are following a low carb diet...which Kate clearly does not do. I know that she had a tummy tuck and some lypo but again...I would love to know how she does seem to have any of the "appearance" symptoms of PCOS.

You could be right about the Duggar kids, but...they may be so well "trained" that they won't!

I wondered about Kate too. I have PCOS, and I really struggle with the symptoms, but she doesn't seem to show any signs of it. Lucky woman!

What's PCOS???

Man - you guys are harsh. I have 3 kids under 5 and I would hate to see what you guys would say about us. . I love the show and how they interact. It is exactly how many "real" families interact - mine included. I have never seen her appear in the least unappreciative of anything they receive. She is always completely grateful. As moms (and dads) we need to pull together for one another - not tear one of us down because we might be a little jealous.

I second that the Duggars are creepy. And the PP is right: I've never seen them kiss & cuddle with their children.

He must be making a nice salary to support them all, that house, the grocery bill, utlities, etc and be debt free.

As a huge fan of the show I am sorry but I have to chime in here...

Well said "jlsdisney"!!! You hit it right on the nose! Sounds like people are jealous! Who cares if she gets help! Maybe people WANT to help her. I am sure no one is being forced to help her out by any means....

As far as promoting things - who wouldn't with 8 kids on one income - given the opportunity! Come on guys - wouldn't you do anything to provide for your kids? It sounds like they had some tough times in the past and I am sure they don't want to ever go back to that. All the power to them......

And shame on the people who live her town and PA and saying bad things about them. How highschool! This is exactly what she was saying on Oprah! No wonder they are doing the show! Come on people....It just isn't realistic to judge them soley on a VERY EDITED 30 minute TV SHOW!

Sorry guys - JMHO!!!

HeatherAnne :) :) :)

P.S. Good luck with finding your trashcan "soontobewed07"!
P.P.S. The Duggars are definitely creepy!

I agree completely agree on both points!!!

Also I saw the laundry sorter on the show Monday and I know I have seen it somewhere before, I'm just not sure where.

Well see here's the thing. No I would not have people filming my kids taking a poop and putting it on tv to make a buck. I would do what it takes to provide for my kids- meaning I would do it. Not my kids. They had 8 kids and can't afford them? There are lots of people with large familes. They don't go to WDW, skiing etc. That is not a necessity. My parents had 2 kids and we didn't take a bazillion vacations. We couldn't afford it but we still had a great life. Should our parents have had 10 more kids and let people film our every move good and bad for the world to see so we could get a private meeting with Cinderella? No way on earth!!!!
And shame on the people who live her town and PA and saying bad things about them. How highschool!
If you read all the reason why they feel that way perhaps you would understand. She was very ungrateful for all the things that she recieved. She was snobby about it and wanted what she wanted but you should pay for it. It has been written that her own parents don't talk to her over it. When they madeover the house she was complaining about the decorating choices they made! Come on! People did this all for free and you don't like it and make obnoxious comments about it? Even if you don't like it you should suck it up. They were trying to help you and do something nice (like pay for an addition on your home!). This is exactly what she was saying on Oprah! No wonder they are doing the show! Come on people....It just isn't realistic to judge them soley on a VERY EDITED 30 minute TV SHOW!

I also think all this media blitz is because people are getting fed up with Kate's demands and they are trying to show her in a softer light. JMHO.

I love watching Jon & Kate + 8! I have twin 3 yo DD's, and I can only imagine if I added sextuplets onto that I would be a crazy woman! :rotfl:

We are currently potty training our DD's, so I was cery interested to see on this week's episode how Kate handled public restrooms with newly-trained toddlers. Does anyone have any idea what travel potty ring Jon & Kate were using on this week's episode? It looked pretty compact, but must be pretty durable, considering all the use it gets! I would love to know where she got it, so I could get one myself.
