Today I have my induction at the gym finally plucked up the courage to go.
I am a little bit nervous(well more like absoloutley terrified  ) The biggest hurdle of all will be leaving the gym and not walking straight next door to the chinese take away ;)

I'm sure you will do just fine.

The instructor doing the induction will just run through how all of the machines work. You will be fine and after plucking up the courage, you won't want to visit the chinese.

Good luck Rachel! :goodvibes

I joined a gym (for the 1st time in nearly 20 years LOL) a couple of weeks ago and after doing my induction I have had a programme worked out for me. I am going three times a week and am really enjoying it. :)

Just mind you don't get tempted by the smell of the sweet and sour! :rotfl2:

Have fun.

Don't worry about anything just enjoy yourself. I always have huge respect when I see new gym users - it's a big thing to join a gym for the first time and to "get into the routine". Once you are in the routine, it becomes a lot easier.

Exercise is great for you: helps you to get healthy and stay healthy. It will help you to manage your weight, fight cholesterol and heart disease and keep a healthy immune system (so less colds and things). You will also look better (leaner, more toned and more radiant) and FEEL better about yourself - regular gym users often glow with healthiness and confidence.

It is important to get reassessed regaularly and get your programme changed. Also vary your type of exercise (do some swimming, cycling, exercises classes sometimes) - otherwise you can get "bored" doing the same routine too much.

Make sure that you take a bottle of water with you to the gym (or drink lots of cups of water). It is important to stay hydrated. Also, when people are thirsty they also tend to feel hungry: so if you stay hydrated, you are less likely to feel like a big Chinese afterwards.

You could take a healthy snack with you do the gym to have straight after working out too. Am thinking apple or maybe a little dried fruit (a little dried mango or a little packet of raisins). That will give you a healthy energy boost - and help you get past the Chinese takeaway - and contribute to your "5 a day" fruit and vegetable.

If you tend to go to the gym in the evening (before dinner), then make sure that your fridge is stocked with healthy food - so you can whip something up when you get home. If you like chinese, then you could make up a healthy stirfry (not much oil, hot wok) with chicken/prawns, fresh pre-prepared stirfry vegetables, noodles or boiled rice and a little chinese sauce. Not all good food need be unhealthy :)

Congratulations - get into it and enjoy it.

Good for you! I have been a regular gym user for 10 years +. At one time I worked as an instructor, I am now a nurse. What I have found to be the best thing is making it fun. Don't force yourself to go otherwise you defeat the object of going. If you have a good instructor s/he will devise a programme to suit you, whether it be weight loss or muscle gain. Try and vary your routine so your body does not get used to the same routine. What you eat after your workout depends on what kind of workout you have had. I am not one of those who watch what I eat, honest!! I don't believe in cutting certain foods out that I enjoy merely cutting down. Enjoy the gym. :bounce:

well I went last night and I really enjoyed it already looking forward to the next time. somebody must have sent some pixie dust my way as the chinese was closed last night :rotfl2: thanks for all the helpful advice :sunny:

I joined a gym in FEB . I've only lost 4lbs so far but I'm enjoying the buzz of going and feeling more healthy. The hardest thing is finding the time to go and motivating yourself to get there.

Good for you. :thumbsup2

I agree! :rotfl: So I've joined a gym that is on the way home from taking my DDs to school, if I try and go out of the house without my gym stuff on one of my "gym days" they will soon be on my case! :rotfl2:

Also remember that muscle weighs more than fat. So sometimes you don't loose a lot of weight, BUT will nottice that your figure becomes more streamlined and toned and you feel fab :)

Exercise is a great part to a healthy lifestyle - also think it is a great example to set to your kids (if you have them). Exercise is also a great stress buster too.
