I normally fly Delta. However, an employer I'm working for booked me on American for a flight this weekend (two flights if you count the connection). Any reason I should/should not join AA's FF program?

It's free, it will not hurt to join in case you have more flights in the future. AA drops your miles if you go more than 18 months without activity. I have about 8000 miles from trips PIT-DFW and transfer hotel points to keep it active if I don't fly for awhile. I want to hold onto them in case the merger with USAirways ever goes through (I have about 13000 miles with them).

You could also code them to Alaska Airlines (also a DL partner) or British Airways if you would prefer than AA. I agree with Debbie, that it is useful as you never know when you may need just a few points to be eligible for a transfer deal or other offer (for instance, to be eligible for annual fee waiver for the United MileagePlus Club Credit Card, the applicant allegedly needed a code from the club and "some" miles in their account).

Besides worst case, you may be able to get a magazine subscription for free ;)
