Day 7: Sunday, May 2: Back to AK and then DisneyQuest
Weather: Mid to high 80s. Another nice day The clouds rolled in at night.
My brother and SIL met us at the AKL around 7:30 and then we drove over to the AK. We had 8:00 PS for Donalds Restaurantosarus. We were seated right away. We got a great table in one of the side rooms. Give me the side rooms any day. They give you much more intimate interaction with the characters. We had Donald, Mickey, Goofy and Pluto. The character interaction was great (no rush), as was the food (both quality and variety). We had a fun waitress too. Grade: Solid A.
After breakfast, we saw the first show of the FOTLK. For me, Lion King is Disneys best show and one that screams, Youre in Disney. After that, we caught Pocahontas and her Forest Friends. We picked up FPs for It's Tough to Be a Bug and then headed over to Kali, which had only a 20 minute wait. My kids are a little sensitive about getting wet on rides and this is their first soaker. But once they learned that the person that got the wettest got a prize, they were ready for the deluge. Unlike Popeye and Plutos, they definitely do not let you take your shoes off on Kali. When we sat in the raft, I started to take my DDs off and a CM quickly stopped me. After Kali, we walked through the Maharajah Jungle Trek and got some great views of the Tigers (it was around 11:15). Then our FPs were ready for ITTBAB. This was a first for us and we were a little apprehensive about my DS, since she has a bug phobia going on. We all loved it, including DD. I did hear plenty of screaming kids, but my two were OK. We had lunch at Flame Tree BBQ The food was really good and the seating in the back by the water is very relaxing. We gave Flame Tree an "A-", a grade helped by the water seating.
After lunch, we decided to leave AK. My brother and I wanted to take DS to DisneyQuest for a few hours. The girls opted out, so they dropped us off at DTD and went back to the resort to relax. DS loved DisneyQuest. It was around 2:00 when we got there and it was not very crowded. After three hours of video games, and a couple of virtual reality games (Buccaneers Gold and the river raft), even I had had enough. We hoped an almost empty bus back to AKL.
We had 6:20 PS for Boma. They couldnt find our PS in the system and I had forgotten the confirmation number in the room. But they penciled us in for 6:20. Despite our PS, we waited a good 30-40 minutes. They must have been quite behind because there were some not-so-happy people there. We loved Boma. The food was a little spicy for me. I have very bland food tastes, but I still found plenty to eat. The kids station was good too. My wife and SIL, who are more adventurous, loved everything. Dessert was out of this world; the banana bread pudding with crème topping was one of the best desserts I have every had. Boma gets a "B+". I would not miss this if I were staying at the AKL. But I cant say I would travel there to hit it.
After dinner, it was back to animal watching. Our savannah provided great viewing of Giraffe, some vultures and a couple of stray ostrich. Some severe storms were rolling in. The lightning across the savannah looked like something off of the Discovery Channel. We hit the hay kind of early. Tomorrow is a rest day.
