I actually liked 5. Loved 1, Liked 2, did not like 3, hated 4. I think I liked that some of the action with JD in 5 was more like it was with him and Orlando Bloom in 1.
BUT, I think POTC has run its course and I don't think a reboot right now or a 6th one or whatever they want to call it without Jack Sparrow is a good idea. I mean, if Johnny Depp had not created this great character way back in the first movie, how many people would have actually watched the second movie? He made that movie what it was. Well, him and Orlando together.
Yeah, I actually like 4 & 5 more than 2 & 3 which I feel were too long and focused mostly on Will and Elizabeth, not to mention 2 has no Barbosa really, who is my favorite character.
That was my thoughts exactly on 2. The first one was a great mixture of some great characters and actors. Barbosa was perfect as the villain to Sparrow's anti-hero (not sure how to describe those two LOL). But they played off each other well. There seemed to be some great friendship/chemistry with JD and Orlando Bloom that made their characters really do well together. I really thought the second movie was too soon to change up the perfect combination they had going.
The third movie, I liked parts of it. When all the pirates came together. Keith Richards' cameo. Scenes with Elizabeth finally becoming a pirate. But the whole Calypso story was just a bit too much for me. And I HATED the scenes with Sparrow in Davy Jones' Locker. Just a bit "out there" even for a crazy pirate. LOL
Something else for me was that in the first movie, Johnny Depp was creating this character. He added in so much to it. And a lot of it was subtle. For 2 and 3 it was like they wanted him to play up the craziness more and more and for me, it became too much. I much prefer the Jack Sparrow of the first movie. With 4 and 5, it seemed to go back to the original Jack.
For me it went downhill after 1
I think they should reverse the trend and make an animated version of Pirates.
I love this! Maybe we'd find out if Uncle Orville every got any privacy!how about a time travel version of the Carousel of Progress
No. First, we really don't need any more Pirates of the Caribbean movies. (If they want to film a ride, how about a time travel version of the Carousel of Progress or a bunch of teens on Seeker's quest from Dinosaur?)
Second, Johnny Depp's personal problems go so far beyond the domestic violence thing that I understand why Disney wouldn't want him representing them any more.
a few thoughts from a big POTC movie series fan
-huge risk by disney if they were to do one of these films without Depp. reboot or not they are very expensive to make and have big shoes to fill without him involved. he's a proven draw. i don't think they'll make it without him
-on that topic, i think they want to wait out this whole situation. obviously there's 3 sides to the story, we got amber's early, now depp's side seems to be out
-first trilogy is excellent and aged well IMO. rewatch and follow along and you really see how every character's motivations and decisions are mapped out properly. i thought it was a bit of a masterpiece but gets overlooked because of the length of 2 and 3.
-4 and 5 didn't live up to it. with 5, you go back and look at the production of it all and you aren't surprised. delays, rewrites, drama with johnny and amber heard and their dogs on the airplane, etc etc. i think all that got in the way of what could've been a bounceback film.
we've seen sequels come out that are strong and fair to the original story instead of being blatant cash grabs. i loved toy story 4, i loved bad boys 3. it isn't impossible.
a lot of this is opinion, not that yours isn't valid, everybody's is. i was, and still am, a diehard fan of the series so i overlook a lot of the warts.three is a total over bloated mess...
- The Story is way too bloated
- Barbosa was turned from a perfect villain to unnecessary coming back,
- the pirate lord Story was lame.
- Elizabeth as the pirate king I’m rolling my eyes now
- Epic battle but Barbosa, the most villainous pirate ever, marry us
- The Kracken dieing off screen instead of shelving the whole unnecessary pirate lord storyline could have had that.
- The whole afterlife thing is so so so lame
really jumped the shark as the first two are just so fun.
the last two are awful because jack isn’t a hero and is fun in segments the movies still love a good hero and Will was perfect.
Yea I do feel like 3 could have been reworked some or condensed a little as itdid drag on a little at times but overall I liked it pretty well and the finale was a lot of fun. Really the Kraken dying off screen was the one main complaint but storywise it made sense for what they did and having it happen.
4 was the only one i found pretty meh overall, but still liked it to a degree just wasn't as good as the others. I felt 5 was a good return to form to the first couple and a nice set up for a new cast if they wanted to do more without the originals. If you ignore the post credit teaser it does work as a good ending as well with them breaking Will's curse and reuniting the family.
