On the run from the New Orleans mobsters who want to silence him and the media-hungry U.S. Attorney (Tommy Lee Jones) who wants to coerce the confession out of him in order to advance his career, Mark seeks the help of novice attorney Reggie Love (Susan Sarandon.) "

I haven't read the book, but the movie is one of my favorites!

I have read all but the latest John Grisham novels. I really enjoy his stories. I really liked The Rainmaker, The Firm(much better than the movie) and Painted House.

I saw the movie, The Client, when it was first released and thought that Susan Sarandon was great as Reggie.

They tried to make a television series based on it years ago, but don't think that it lasted very long.

I've been a late- comer in reading the Grisham novels...I have been enjoying them lately though. I missed the Client the first time around, I hadn't yet read the book at that time and I usually do like to read the book before seeing the movie. I read it earlier this year so now I'm anticipating the film

As always, the book is WAY better than the movie, IMHO.
