(sorry for the ... dot dot dot DawnCt) I'm not sure if this was posted yet. I appologize if it was already BUT What was John Edwards thinking when he made comment's about Dick Cheney's daughter being a Lesbian? Wasn't that a terrible thing to say? Why would he say such a thing?

Actually, the fact that Edwards said it first made it seem that Kerry's mentioning of it a calculated thing to do.

No, it's called reality, something the Bush administration is unfamiliar with.

Oh, it's nice to keep this in abstract terms, but put a face on it, a real face and everyone's all up in arms. Up in arms about a MENTION of someone everyone knows to be a lesbian....meanwhile the Bush administration's policies treat gays like second class citizens, but that's just fine and dandy.

Mary Cheney does not have leprosy. She is not a child molester. She did not commit some horrible crime. How utterly offensive that we can't even acknowledge the fact she is gay without offending Lynne's Cheney's warped sense of privacy. Of course, this privacy does not stretch to pro-Bush articles in magazines, where Mary's sexuality is freely bandied about in connection with Cheney's reelection. Oh please! Like it's a huge secret.

Of course, I didn't hear any mention of Lynne's outrage when Alan Keyes made the following exchange:

NEW YORK (AP) - Illinois Republican Senate candidate Alan Keyes has labeled homosexuality "selfish hedonism" and said Vice President Dick Cheney's lesbian daughter is a sinner.

The former talk show host who has made two unsuccessful runs for the White House made the comments Monday night in an interview with Sirius OutQ, a satellite radio station that provides programming aimed at gays and lesbians.

After saying homosexuality is "selfish hedonism," Keyes was asked if that made Mary Cheney "a selfish hedonist."

"Of course she is," Keyes replied. "That goes by definition."

Hmm, I must have missed Lynne's motherly outrage at the violation of her privacy there. But god forbid John Kerry should say anything like "We are all God's children" and drag Mary's name through the mud. Horrors!

I would be offended if any sexual oreintation was mentioned. If he had said something about Bush's daughters being heterosexual, I would think it was inappropriate.

Then Mr and Mrs Cheney should not have used it themselves for political gain then should they? Are you forgetting how Mrs Cheney went on national TV to talk about it? Or how the two of them as a couple openly discussed it at a rally in an attempt to show their human side?

Lynn and Dick Cheney's response: THIS IS NOT A GOOD MAN!!!! WHAT A CHEAP AND TAWDRY POLITICAL TRICK!!! YOU SAW A MAN WHO WILL DO AND SAY ANYTHING TO GET ELECTED!!!

So I ask you....exactly which of these people is using Ms Cheney's sexuality for political advantage.

Especially by the opposing candidates. This doesn't make sense to any of the liberals here? Kerry was using the daughter, and had no business doing so. Also, another view regarding this--and I tend to agree it has some validity--is that Kerry wanted to let the conservatives know that CHeney's daughter was a lesbian in case they weren't aware and would give up supporting the Pres and VP because of this.

Be reasonable. Kerry was pandering. I know we're all God's children, and all, but what he did was transparent and made him look bad. No, he didn't look bad to the liberals. I know. But, he looked bad to most everyone else.

How many conservatives do you think would give up supporting the president if they had just become aware of this? Do any of them wonder how his daughter became this way?

Lynne Cheney's problem isn't that she doesn't want her child's sexual orientation to be bandied about for political gain, it's that she wants to be the one bandying it. Now she's out there spinning like a top, but when Alan Keyes insults her daughter? Nothing.

I'm glad she's not my mother.

However, I do respect Cheney's reaction in thanking Edwards for his kind words about his family. His wife should take a page out of his book.
