John Edwards chosen by Kerry as VP

It seems like being condescending and insulting seems to be the only way to relate to people who do not think the way you do. This kind of rhetoric says nothing about the character of the people you are referring to, but volumes about the person making the statement.
Thank you! How fortunate for me that you can point this out for me.

I have no quarrel with having to pay for college. But back-to-back tuition increases that far exceed the rate of inflation are hard to handle.
But this has been typical for many public and especially private universities for years. The cost of providing a quality education dramatically increases as we continue to expand what we know and our ability to share that knowledge with new generations.

However, there is a limit to how much federal funding can be tapped for what is essentially a private, individual choice. I am not certain I prefer diverting precious tax dollars from things like homeland defense to ensure that my neighbor doesn't have to scout out an extra scholarship or take out a loan. I guess it comes down to priorities and while I believe a college education is important -- heck, it's practically essential these days -- for me it doesn't rank as high a priority as some other items on the federal budget.

Exactly!!! There is way too much in the federal budget that doesn't belong there, and if we want to cut spending, let's start dumping the superfluous crap and concentrate on the real priorities.

Dept. of Homeland Security, that brand new mega portion of the federal budget.....a good use of tax dollars, especially considering how it has grown

Not sure if this is sarcasm or not, but...the Department of Homeland Security, while indeed huge, is really nothing more than the consolidation of a number of other agencies all brought together under one umbrella.

Read the "junk science" article, then get back to me.

Great non-answer. You read the article I linked to and get back to me .

When one wants to distract people from realizing that the vast majority of one's own posts are negative in nature. It's a quaint diversionary tactic some hope will work on the simple-minded and supporters of Kerry-Edwards (and those who drink M. Moore's Kool-Aid). ;)

You know, for a just a bit I thought I'd found a conservative who could actually post and discuss without constantly resorting to insults and sarcasm.

Ah well, it was nice while it lasted.

Btw, if it meets daubert, it is not junk science.

and, re homeland security, it is not just the sum of the agencies it combined. It is a larger agency, with more beurocracy.

Lets see what Bush wants for 2005--an increase to 47.4 billion, which is a 13% real increase, after inflation is factored in -- A larger increase then DOD, not counting the as of yet untold expenses of replacement vehicles, aircraft and equipment destroyed by the harsh sand environment, not including the loss of personnel, which is expected to hit the NCO and officer ranks hard, due to excessive deployments, etc.

I think DHS is another great big sucking sound in the federal budget....and, it was instituted by a Republican president.

 You actually thought I could post without resorting to sarcasm? Phuleeze! :earseek:

And a few more....funding has doubled since its inception after 9/11, and it sucks up about 57% of domestic security money, some to the detriment of local funding.

So are you opposed to homeland security? What would you recommend instead? Leaving things the way they were pre-9/11, which obviously wasn't sufficient?

Local funding of what? Why can't local governments take some responsibility for funding their own security measures? What a novel approach!!

Someone explain this to me. How can a man who just 6 months ago was called by the person who picked him as a running mate someone who was not ready to accept the Presidency, a man that the voters IN HIS OWN PARTY did not feel was a viable presidential candidate (by virtue of his "success" in the primaries) , a man who could barely muster one primary win in his bid for the presidency, suddenly, in 6 months, be condidered to do a better job of running the country than a man that has served in numerous capacities in a number of administrations?

About the same way as a man who called supply-side (aka trickle down) economics, voodoo economics, could suddenly become a supply-side true believer when he was tapped to be VP. Do I really need to identify the man?

What the heck..................it was George H. W. Bush.

Btw, as far as Cheney's experience, he's been wrong about everything and he's still lying about the ties between Saddam Hussein and Al-Qaeda. The only experience we need from Cheney is watching the door hit him in the *** as he leaves.

I agree. My point is the Federal Govt should not be sticking it's nose in States business except for issue regarding interstate commerce

So, presumably, you believe the Federal government should not interfere if a state wishes to bring back segregration?

Oops, my apologies, DMan.

I should've kept reading before I asked the question about segregation.
