John Denver

Yep, I loved him and still enjoy his music. I saw him in concert 3 times. The first songs my DS learned to play on the guitar were John Denver songs. His music lives on.

Count me in...there was a radiance about him. I loved Annie's Song, but the stupid band at our wedding didn't know how to sing it, so I had to choose from what they DID know. :rolleyes:

I know people were kidding, but he did have at least one drunk driving arrest...I remember being so disappointed b/c my dad was killed by a drunk driver...I say party on, but let a non-drinker drive. Nevertheless, he was a huge part of my teen years....

After the Pitt game last year (our biggest rival)....night game....60,000+....Huge win....The students behaving themselves :rolleyes: ......I get chills just thinking about it ::yes::

John Denver will ALWAYS have a special place in the heart of every West Virginian, and even more-so in the hearts of Mountaineer fans !

Here's a pick of that day in 1980:

The place was packed, and I remember it like it was yesterday (it was also one of the few games that I went to with just me and my dad).

I can imagine! I went to grad school in Colorado and we never missed a chance to see him at Redrocks.....sort of his "home field" at the time. We had seen him elsewhere, but it was very special to have the crowd singing along to THOSE songs in THAT place.

John gave us "Country Roads" as our boot camp song in '71 and
Led Zeppelin gave us "Misty Mountain Hop". Can't decide which I liked more! But what a variety with a "mountain" theme!
OK, I loved them both!
::yes:: :Pinkbounc :bounce:

Yeah...One of those things where a confluence of events and places make things just....*right*, ya' know ::yes::

I absolutely love John Denver. I doubt there is a song he recorded that I don't have. It was a tragedy that he was died. I don't get too emotional most of the time when a celebrity dies, but John Denver's death was really tough. As other have said, I too had Annie's Song sung at my wedding. The people providing the music for me, didn't have the sheet music for this song and they weren't really familiar with it, but they went out and got it because they knew how much I wanted it. :)

Anyway, a tidbit of information about Annie's Song. This may have been posted before, but just in case it wasn't.

Denver wrote this song for his then-wife Ann Martell after the near break up of their marriage. He wrote it in 10 minutes while on a ski lift. He said, something to the effect of, if you really mean it, it doesn't take long.

I did a great deal of crying after his death as well.
