John Carter

Early word-of-mouth on it is negative as well... but I'll wait and see the reviews when it comes out.

I was hoping for more from Andrew Stanton after the beautiful and fantastic WALL-E , but the trailers for this make it look and feel very generic. However, until we see the movie I'll decline to judge.

(I was thrilled that Brad Bird managed to make a fantastic movie in M:I4, though.)

After watching the trailer, I am very interested. I will definitely be there on opening night. I believe this could turn into a very well known movie. The effects look awesome.

I have been looking forward to this story being adapted into a movie for a long time. From what I remember reading the technology to bring the 4 armed Martians to the silver screen did not exist until now. The original was not very deep as I recall. The trailers are OK. I'm sure they're focusing on more of the effects and the action to draw the teenage/young adult crowd in. I will go see it either way. Whether or not I buy it on Blu-ray will depend on how good it is. The one thing that concerns me is a movie like this being released in March. It's usually not the time of year the release a film they expect to do exceedingly well. On the flip side there should not be much competition for it so maybe that will help.

I'm definitely going to see it, but the biggest problem in my opinion is that they made the trailer look very much like Prince of Persia and as has been said, run of the mill. Disney marketing is getting generic across the spectrum, especially in film. I think it looks good, but we'll have to wait and see.

I am really, really, really hoping that it is good. It looks a *lot* closer to the books than the SciFi channel attempt. It is always hard when favorite books are adapted for the screen though, because they rarely match the images in your mind.

I felt the same way - very much like Prince of Persia. Not that PoP was a bad movie - we enjoyed it on Bluray and if I found it for $5 I'd buy a copy, but it isn't all that memorable and John Carter look like the same type of film, but with Aliens instead of Persians.

When I first saw the trailer for the movie I thought of Prince of Persia.

I found a public domain version of the original books on Audio. I've attempted to listen to the first book about six times but fall asleep after about a half hour each time. I'm sure its more due to the narrator reading in monotone than the story but I hope the movie version is much more exciting than the audio book.

If you get a chance, actually read the books, they're quite good!
