I just started watching this show the other day and I was wondering if either of the parents had jobs outside the home? How do they support the kids is it with the tv show?

Thanks. I always wonder what these people do. Does anyone know what the Duggar husband does? I watched that show too. What a difference, John and Kate act like real parents and you can see they love the kids the Duggars on the other hand act like a bunch of robots in my opinion. How can they even KNOW who is who?

Although I have my issues with the Duggar family, why is this question asked so frequently??? If we expect classroom teachers to learn and remember the names of 30 or so children each year, why is it so hard to imagine that Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar could keep track of 18 names throughout a child's lifetime??

I honestly don't think Jon works anymore. He "works from home" but most people believe the only thing those two do anymore is manage the family and TV show. Oh, and the house they went to see on the last episode was listed at 1.7 million dollars. Not that I begrudge them any of their money from TLC- it's a very popular show and they should be paid accordingly.

Jon no longer works. I think it was early in this last season that Jon & Kate briefly mentioned it when they were doing one of their couch talks.

Early this season they said he was working with Beth's husband and was able to set his own hrs and work from home sometimes.
There has been some speculation that is no longer the case, but nothing has been said to back it up.
Jon and Kate both get paid for speaking at churches and there is a book coming out soon by Kate, Jon and Beth.
They likely recevied money up front for the book.
The rumor is they get 70k an episode for the show, but like I said, that is a rumor. Howeve considering what actors/tv personalities get paid, it doesn't sound too far off.

Who is Beth? IS that a stupid queston? I have only watched the show about 3 times.

Well as a classroom teacher I can remember the kids names BUT they do not make the same kind of connection with me as I would have with my own children. Maybe the mother is a superwoman but it looks to me like she is a baby machine and then gives the older kids the responsiblity for the younger ones. IMHO that is NOT the way it is supposed to be. I think kids should help out but NOT be for example in charge of the cooking for 20 some odd people. Where is their childhood? I think the parents are just selfish. What do the older kids get to do? How much attention can she give all of them?

I hear this criticism over and over again about the Duggars. Maybe if they had the same exposure Jon and Kate have, and I could see over and over again that they ignored the kids, I would believe it. As it is, though, I have only seen 4 one hour specials, and they've focused on how the family divides the responsibilities of having so many people in one space. I'm not willing to buy the idea that Michelle pops them out and then totally hands them over to one of the big girls - I just don't buy it. I think that's what a lot of people believe, though.

About the Duggars, well I wish my kids were a bit like theirs, not that my kids are bad, but I would love to see them doing their chores without whining and arguing. I rather see the Duggars than Kate, I like the show but she nags and nags all the time.

Well I agree on that, she wants babies, she sould be the one taking care of them.

Well which show do you feel is more true to life? NOT the Duggars IMHO. I like to know that I am not the only one who does not have a perfect life with perfect kids. I am not saying the older Duggar kids are not great but the whole thing is just too great. Sorry there is a fly in the ointment but we just do not know what it is yet.

If I remember correctly she didn't meet the family until after the 6 were born. She actually contacted them and offered to help out. She and Kate became very close friends. She has been been in several episodes in the past, but hasn't been on since they started showing mainly just family outings.

Okay enough of this stuff for me....I am going back to the ghost thread much more interesting.

We believe it because that is what Michelle says she does. She gives them to a buddy who is in charge of all their needs as soon as she weans them.

She brags about the buddy system and has discussed it in detail. The older children are taking care of the younger ones completely. There is no gray area there.
