Does anyone know how well lit deck four on the Fantasy is prior to sunrise? Specifically for running laps around the jogging track?

Trying to figure out if I should bring shoes lights to see or I will be okay without them?

You will be Ok. I was on the deck several times before sunrise and after dark. There is plenty of light.

The entire ship is lit like a Christmas tree all day and night. It's hard to actually get away and see things as mundane as stars, or at least stars that you can't see in a big city with all of its light pollution.

One one of our cruises they offered star gazing one night lead by one of the offices up on the top deck. They did arrange to have the lights turned off for a while so we could actually see the stars

What cruise was this on? I've put notes in my comment card every time asking Disney to do the same. Nothing. They'd rather look like a circus while most people are asleep. Most of us never get to see dark skies because of the ludicrous amount of light pollution cities put off. It's one of the primary reasons I have seriously considered doing a Star Clippers cruise.

Deck 4 is well lit 24/7 and you will do fine running or walking. I have been out there many a morning before sunrise and watched the runners slowly appear. Have also taken post-midnight walks around it. No trouble seeing at all.

If the deck is not lit they won't even let you out there. I have been on a cruise where the lights were turned out for some reason and the crew said the deck was closed but would reopen at X time. So you are out on the deck then it is safe to be out there.

We've had this on several of the longer cruises. We were going to do it on the last TA we were on but it was looking cloudy that night so I don't know if they ended up being able to do it or not. Hoping to be able to do this on the EBTA in a few days.

I stayed in a 4E on deck 5 in February, and when our neighbors had their verandah lights out, we had almost perfect star-gazing. Of course, we could only see whatever stars were on our side of the ship.

I tried this from our 4E. Our neighbors were our friends, so their lights were out too. Nothing more than I can see in East Tennessee. It didn't even compare to my years going to Boy Scout camp in West Texas, just miles from McDonald Observatory. The same can be said for our friends' dude ranch in Livermore, CO. I could lie on my back and look at the stars for hours. I can only imagine how beautiful and quiet the world was before mankind started making lights and machinery.

I couldn't remember when, but wife tells me that it was on the west bound Panama Canal cruise in January, 2011
