My sister was saying yesterday that at her DS's high school it is against the dress code to wear T-shirts advertising Joe's Crab Shack. I asked her why and she didn't know. I admit I can be very naive so is there some innuendo I don't know about? I know there are crabs (food) and crabs (STD) but seriously, that can't be it can it? :confused3

There are other items not allowed but their code specifically states no Joe's Crab Shack under banned T-shirts.

If the answer is too adult maybe I ought to be PM'ed since this is a family board.
:thumbsup2

Most do have a rule about tshirts with innappropriate sayings, so guess thats what does it.... A girl wearing a shirt that says "Joe gave me crabs"...

I think its a bit excessive when it also obviously says JOES CRAB SHACK on it, but hey, kids do get a bit distracted with it...

Yes, it is. High School is ripe for learning about that stuff and the teachers must be sick of all the innuendoes they've had to endure when someone in the past probably wore that shirt or one like it. :headache:

Plus, if the princpal's name is Joe, he wouldn't want people inferring the cracks are about him... :rolleyes1

If it's either of the two that I saw on this page of their website, I would say I wouldn't want my kid to wear it anywhere.

It takes a long time for this to come up for me, but one shirt says "BITE ME" another "One Shell of a Good Time", and the other one says "Don't Be a (nickname for Richard)." Maybe they have some shirts that just say "Joe's Crab Shack", but I have seen other ones that are just as bad as the above. My guess is that it's easier to just say "No Joe's shirts at all."

I don't think that innuendo has any place on a shirt that is worn at school. JMO.

I had two of these shirts (with different sayings) and always received lots of comments whenever I wore them...and I was probably 40 yo at the time. I remember wearing one into McDonald's..."Joe's Mama LOVES Crabs." Well, one of the employees was named Joe and boy did he get ribbed....

At WDW one time I saw a teen (17 or so) wearing a shirt that said, I got my crabs at Dirty (Nickname for Richard). I found the shirt totally offensive, even though I did understand that it was referring to seafood.

Joe's has some that are equally offensive and no, they don't belong in a high school, junior high or elementary school on students, faculty, other staff, or visitors. :confused3

My girlfriend and I were just there with our kids the other day. Some of the shirts are suggestive.

One of them said something along the lines of: "The waitress at Joe's gave me crabs."

FTR, I've seen students wear shirts that are much worse in my school.

Well, OP, her son certainly knows why... maybe she should have asked him what exactly the tshirts said and opened up a whole can of worms:lmao:

Well I'm not big into censorship either but I believe school is like work and kids should dress with some sensibility. On a Friday night out with the homies, wear what you want:rotfl2:

We were at Joe's earlier in the week and the waitress was wearing a BITE ME tshirt. I commented that how cool would it be to wear that to work? :lmao:

It would have been really cool to wear that to school. But they wouldn't have allowed it back in the 80;s. They sent us home or had us turn the offending item inside out.

Now I'm understanding. I was thinking they just had "Joe's Crab Shack" on them with a logo. We don't have a Joe's around here so I had no idea there were more suggestive T's.

While I don't always agree with censorship I can understand how school would not be an appropiate place for the more suggestive shirts.

Told you I was naive! :)

I'm as open minded as they come but I have a few tee shirts from there and a coffee mug and NO..it's not appropriate for school:rotfl: and YES what you are thinking is correct:)

Sorry- I think they're funny. Teenagers love that kind of thing and unless there is a school uniform..... lighten up. "One shell of a good time" I love that one!

I really hate censorship :headache:

even concerning school children?

I really hate censorship, too. Kids don't need to wear this kind of distracting stuff at school. Let them wear it at home or play. Yes, we have uniforms and I love them..

yup- especially high school children. I think that the shirts, suggestive though they are, are pretty mild. If high school kids can't handle a "bite me" t-shirt, well.... :confused3 I really think it's one of those things where the more you make a big deal of it, the more exciting it becomes.

I agree Becky!
