Joe Black Appreciation thread

Thanks for sharing your story, Joe! WDW has quickly become the place for some of our favorite memories with our kids. My husband is a pastor, and I'm a teacher, so our vacations are time that our children can have us ALL to themselves.

And thanks to all who gave us a "heads up" on the discounts. . .saved $903 on our November 20th anniversary trip!:thumbsup2

Count me in the Joe fan club.

Not just for the incredibly helpful info you are willing to share, but because you're obviously a good guy and a good Diss'er.

We need more positive people around here like you!

Thank you so much. You saved my family $1200 bucks!! There has been such a lack of free dining offers this year. As soon as you said there was a fall offer I knew it was going to be insane trying to get it. Because of your very detailed information I was able to plan accordingly. Joe and Dave you're awesome!

Smitch, having you on the dis is like having a disney CM at our finger tips. You have answered soooooo many questions for people. It's a shame they don't put you on the payroll. Thanks for all your help!!

:grouphug:

I definitely appreciate the heads up- this last week has been a roller coaster- but fun! Much better than not knowing it was coming haha! Still have my fingers crossed POR will release more rooms for families of 5 :)

I appreciate all the info posted here, it is great to get the heads up on things. I thought I knew a lot about Disney, but everyone here has shown me I have a lot t learn. Thank you to all who post info to help fellow Disney lovers.

Thanks Joe from me too!

Saving $65 on POR ressie: a little something!;)
Having extra fun because of Joe: Priceless!::yes::

Thanks Joe for sharing your story and thank you for the heads up. I didn't plan on Disney this year but every once in a while ill lurk the boards just because I love reading about all things Disney. One day I came across your FD thread and I figured out a way to make it work for us this year. Thank you Thank You Thank You. My kiddos are 8 and 12 and I want to share as much Disney Magic with them before they get too old to enjoy it ( if that's even possible).

Oh my gosh....now y'all done went and got me blushing.

I love Walt Disney World, and if you've heard my story, you'll know why. I just want everyone to be able to have the kinds of experiences that I've had. I hope you all have a magical time at the happiest place on earth.

And thank you....:grouphug:

Ok Joe I haven't heard the story but would love to.

And Thank You because of you I was prepared with my plan C which is where we ended up.
You are Awesome

Wow -what an amazing story. Thanks so much for sharing and being willing to keep all the rest of us up to speed. I have greatly enjoyed reading all the threads (well, and stressed a bit).

Thanks to the info, I was able to book a discounted room at the Boardwalk Inn (where we could never stay at normal rates). Add such an amazing story of family and memories from you, Black, and this has been a magical trip so far - and that is just for making reservations!!! Although, my Dad has now told me to stop calling with new contingency plans :rotfl:

Thanks for providing daily entertainment and Disney Magic everyday leading up to today!

Will toast to you and your dad when we celebrate our daughter's birthday in December at the most magical place on earth!

Cheers!

I've posted this before, but I thought I'd share my story here...

Dad and I used to go to WDW together every year. During those trips, we had many once in a lifetime experiences. One year we got to meet a Disney animator that worked directly with Walt on alot of classic films. He even drew me a sketch and signed it, which I still have framed to this day. Another trip, we found ourselves on the first bus into Animal Kingdom on the first soft opening day. We were literally the first public group into the park and it was facinating to see how things progressed from that day. We celebrated birthdays, and many other things, but mostly just enjoying the Disney magic. I truely believe, he had a large part in my blooming love for Disney.

In 1999, three months (to the day) after our Disney vacation, he was tragically killed in a helicopter crash. I then realized that, at that point, Disney was much more than a vacation...it was memories, fun times, once in a lifetime encounters, and so much more. The next few trips to Disney were bittersweet. I would find myself watching the parade on Main Street, smelling the scents from the Confectionary, hearing the music...and for a moment, could see him standing next to me. At times, I became emotional for no reason, just something flashed me back to a memory. Now I know, that whenever I'm at Disney, I feel like I'm closest to my Dad...I feel like he's there with me (he is), and I make new memories doing new things or new attractions and thinking to myself "Dad would've loved this".

So there you have it...a Father...a Son....many years of good times....and many more years cut short. But lots of memories all the same...and lots more being made each and every year. It's more than a vacation, it's a pilgrimage. It's that reason that every time I go, there are certain things I must do out of tradition...and other things I do to make new memories. And sometimes, at just the right moment, I feel him walking by my side, smiling and just saying "I'm glad we're here".

Disney World was our world and we shared many special memories there. I remember him the best way I know how...by continuing the fun that we always enjoyed together. He always taught me to enjoy life, have fun and not worry about the little things.

Here's to you Dad...I shall ALWAYS remember!!!

As I said earlier...you asked for it.

And now you know.....the rest of the story.

Ok Joe ya got me. I am sitting here crying reading your story. It really is about making memories. I grew up in Miami and went many times as a little girl but moved to Mi and hadn't been back for about 20 years. We went in 2009 it was my husband and sons first visit ever and my first time staying on property and going to the other parks. In 2006 my husband was diagnosed with a terminal heart condition and has already exceeded how long his doctors gave him. He only has a few good hours a day to be out and about so we try and make as many memories as we can. Disney was always my happy place and its become theirs too.

Thanks so much for the heads up on the free dining. This is our family first trip to Disney and we are so excited. We can't wait to see the excitement on our two year olds face :). Brand new to the DisBoard I've got lots to learn by December :)

In the craziness of today, I have only been checking my subscribed threads. I am just now seeing this one! :rotfl:

I want to also give my thanks to Joe and Dave for all of their hard work and sharing their knowledge with us. A big shout out to all of the TAs who have put in unbelievably long hours today for all of their clients. I am sure they still have a lot of calls to make. Thanks to everyone who has been working hard to answer questions and give advice, too.

For those of you who have thanked me, you are so very welcome. I have really enjoyed being able to help people through this whole crazy event. When I joined this site 2 1/2 years ago, I had no idea how involved I would become. I have learned so much here and continue to learn new things every single day. Being able to pay it forward is something I enjoy very much.

Disney World holds a special place in my family's hearts. I want everyone to have the best possible trip they can, so I try to offer up any advice possible to help that happen. I know several of you have saved a lot of money with today's offers, but let's not forget those who are still trying to get that little bit of extra pixie dust magic. We need to rally behind them and hope they get some good luck in the coming weeks.

If I can ask one favor of all of you, it is this...

Please enjoy your vacations. Don't get so caught up in where you are going next that you forget where you are in that moment. Life is so short and unpredictable. If things don't go exactly as planned, it will all be okay. Some of the most magical moments happen when and where you least expect it. Fill your hearts, not your checklist. Enjoy one another as I have come to enjoy all of you. :goodvibes

Okay...I'll stop being super sappy now. :rotfl:
