job question

this is kind of a vent but i also need advice. i am 27 years old and graduated college cum laud(sp) with an education degree. i live in tx and i am in a state funded program to receive help for people with disabilities. since i am on the program i CAN'T make over $1900 a month or i lose all my help. i have been to many interviews but it seems like as soon as they see the chair their opinions change. its like they say you look great on paper but never mind. i have gone on 2 interviews and they said if background checks out you start Monday. im not trying to be a snob but i have had people tell me i have what they are looking for but then when i call because i haven't heard from them they say oh the position has been filled. i was wondering what some of y'all that are disabled do, like types of jobs? are they full time or part time? do you work from home? and if you have any other ideas that would be helpful.

Full time Computer Programmer here. I've worked for the Federal Government for 26 years now.

I'm disappointed to here that you're having problems in the education field. I thought most state jobs would be similar to the federal ones, here they actively recruit those with disabilities.

are you only applying for positions that meet and will remain below your $1900 per month max, or are you applying for positions that initialy will and disclosing to potential employers your need to stay below that level?

reason i ask is i have to imagine that most jobs in the education field pay at least that amount for a starting salary and end up paying more-or have the expectation that an entry level person will move upward (and earn more). that being the case an employer may be hesitant to hire someone who they KNOW will not utilize any training they offer to promote on their expected track, or they may be hesitant to hire knowing a person will-if the starting salary is near that cap-never be willing or able to work paid ot, and may, if the position is union represented and therefore gets set raises that may raise them above that cap-end up resigning.

if you are being told that you are starting a job as soon as a background check clears and then on multiple occasions not being offered the job you may want to find out what type of background checks potential employers are doing and seeing if there is detrimental information that is preventing your hiring.

as for jobs in general-i don't know what texas law is like, but i imagine with an education degree you might be able to qualify for substitute teaching (some states don't require a full blown credential)-it would'nt be steady but you could make yourself unavailable if you were getting close to $1900 in a given month. another option would be to work in a private school or daycare because, sadly, many if not most pay no more than minimum wage-so even a full time job would keep you under $1900 per month).

After being turned down for the job, have you ask why?

I too am a programmer and went on many interviews only to be overqualified. That was until I moved to NY and got in with the state.

I am a nurse and I work at home. There are jobs available where you can work online at home. Is this anything you'd be interested in?

I found my job on an online site (CareerBuilders). There are work at home jobs in the health care industry. I work for a very large company (in top 20 in US) and have great benefits.

I know this may be off topic , but I'm interested in knowing what type of nursing you can do online at home. I'm an RN ,but have not worked in many years as one, so I'm very interested .
