I am currently employed but not thrilled with my job. It pays ok and is somewhat secure, so I wouldn't want to do anything to jeopardize it. There is a job posted on Craigslist in my field, and I believe the business is in my neighborhood. I am tempted to apply...just don't want word to get back to my current employers as I'm not sure I want to leave my present position. Should I go ahead and send my resume? The protocol used to be that no past or current employers were contacted by interviewers without asking the applicant first. Is that still the case? Do I need to include references if I am emailing my resume through Craigslist? Thanks!
I wouldn't be concerned about sending references, just your résumé if you do decide to apply. The rule still stands that employers generally only ask for references after an interview, and even then, they should be understanding of your situation & respect your wishes of not contacting your current employer until a firm offer was discussed. Hope this helps!!
