Job at Disney

A two-hour drive from where you live in CT will bring up a lot of prestigious hotels, or hotels owned by big hospitality corporations.

Hanging your hat for career advancement in your field on becoming a homeless monorail driver doesn't make any logical sense.

We aren't mean - just realistic. Brink of Sunshine has good advice.

and I agree about the drive. Disney holds a lot around the country. as I stated I have worked in the field for long time and need to get back to resort based hotels,.

Salaries are not public information, and vary pretty widely. You can try to research the information on sites like glassdoor, but always take that information with a grain of salt. The hourly positions might be reliable, but I wouldn't count on a great wealth of information on salaried positions

Thanks! I know my company doesn't post salaries in external postings (well, the hard/fast salary scale...just a starting salary. But, internally, we can see the scale.) Wasn't sure if something like that existed for WDW. I will look into it. :)

I think I want a resort not hotel. as I can also use my resort experience. I miss doing events :)

Just know that Disney resorts do not do events. That is handled by a completely different department. So if you work front desk at Coronado Springs the only time you would be remotely involved in the event is checking people in and out of rooms. If you really want to do events you should look for a position in Disney floral and special events. They handle everything from weddings, to conferences, to the disboards meet up. They work on location in the parks, at the resorts, and even in the Orlando area sometimes.

Don't discount the Four Seasons at Walt Disney World. That is a relatively new resort on Disney World property. Might be worth putting your resume in there as well. Also check out the Swan and Dolphin. They aren't Disney employees but the Swan and Dolphin host several corporate events a year including the Gartner convention. I believe most of the staff also gets Disney perks similar to those who work for Disney direct.

Sorry you don't like the answers you are receiving, but you should really listen to what people are telling you.

Your commute from the Palm Coast will be two hours one way but you need to add an hour on to the drive there because you'll need to account for the horrendous traffic (the 417 was closed for hours today), parking (cast members don't get front row spots), and walking quite a distance to get to your job. Three hours there and two hours to get home is five hours that you could spend working a second job.

People simply don't commute five hours for a minimum wage job. You may disagree with that, but it isn't prudent. It simply isn't.

Do your GF grandparents seriously want a 32 year old man living with them? If you live in CT, I am assuming they don't know you that well. How awkward. I assume you won't be paying rent? You won't have any time to help them around their house since you'll have five hours in the car and ten plus hours a day working. Sorry, but that's freeloading. If you were fresh out of school, maybe I could buy it, but at 32 you need to make this work on your own. If it was your own grandparents I still would think it was odd but your GF's grandparents? No! Just no!

At 32 you should be able to afford your own apartment somewhere (with roommates, if needed). If you can't, then you need to stay where you are now in CT and keep saving. Are you on your own now or are you living with your parents?

You may feel Disney is the "pinnacle" for your field, but I assure you there are plenty of top notch places in the hospitality and culinary industry.

Sorry, but this does not sound like a job for you given your situation. And once Disney sees that you are going to commute that distance, I'm guessing they'll pass on you anyway. You need a new, wiser plan.

I have been out in the field since 2008. I have associates in culinary and bachelors in hospitality. I have worked for the cruise lines, was a head pastry chef , and now manage a front desk for a major hotel.
I wont just run to Disney. Just want an opportunity to talk to them. thanks everyone for the info.
I thought you said you have a job interview scheduled? Isn't that a great opportunity to talk to them?

I am a little confused by your posts. You say you want them to know about your past experience, but this is something that is typically included on a resume.

Then you say you just want an opportunity to talk to them.

Did you not send a resume or don't really have a job interview scheduled?

I have never applied for a job at Disney, so do you not have an opportunity to upload a resume during the application process?

lisa I said its an option. I can support myself and live in a house. thanks for opinons guys.... Really do appreciate it. most likely will just interview to talk to someone :)

I have been with my gf for 5 years, they are originally in ct, It would have been a short term thing because it would take her a bit to get ready to move. I take your comments very demeaning, as I was some child.

Alice Cooper was just playing on the radio. Played a song and reminded me of this thread.

first thank you to all , and I think I will take the interview just as is sell my self, and see what happenes.it works it works its bad then I move on. that above post just made me feel like a freeloading person who has accomplished nothing.. :) I will continue my search for a resort :)

the post I am talking about is this

word of advice, ask the situation before you start typing this... very insulting.
