Did anyone see Joaquin Phoenix on David Letterman? I had to u tube it once we had power (out from wind) I could not believe the way he acted. I don't know how to put links on but if you missed it, it is on u tube. I know he quit acting but something is wrong big time. He was such a great actor.

Was he being weird on purpose? I couldn't figure out what in the world he was doing.

I saw a clip of it on GMA....I actually thought Letterman was hilarious! Yeah, Joaquin was definitely presenting himself as a few tacos short of a combo platter, at least he smiled at one point and spoke!

People are saying Letterman was being an jerk. I don't particularly care for him, but what else was he supposed to do? Joaquin was acting like an absolute freak.

It is all supposedly an act for a documentary his BIL, Casey Affleck, is working on.

That's what TMZ is saying as well. All the crazy behavior (rap artist, unibomber beard, etc) is all for this documentary. Letterman was hilarious.

I don't know. I'm thinking he might be depressed. And all this "stuff" is part of that. It doesn't look like an act to me. He's had a crazy life and maybe it's just catching up with him
That was painful to watch. He seemed like he wanted to disappear.

The Farrah comment was after her wacko appearance on his show- she appeared to be wasted. (and with all the chemo she has been going through she probably was highly medicated) and they didn't let it go- I think he was implying while that was mildly crazy this was bigger crazy.

Sad to me.

Not real. Stunt. He's ok... watch you'll see him again and he'll be normal. But Letterman is always a jerk, he was just being himself. Never been a fan of that guy. He is a bit talent-less IMHO.

No way, I loved Letterman! I just watched the clip on You Tube. Joaquin was definitely pulling some sort of PR stunt and I don't think Letterman was in on it. I think Letterman had to improvise and I think he did a great job. He was really funny.

Great actor's gig...elaborate hoax. It has many names, but I'm pretty sure he'll make money off it! Stay tuned.

I woke up and DH had it on. I said, "that guy is VERY high!" and went back to sleep. I'd call that a coctail of different mood alteration materials. I've seen people that high more times than I care to remember. He's headed the way of his brother River. Adding to that, the hair? Didn't we leave that look back in 1979?

I do think it was a stunt, and Letterman was in on it, otherwise he would not have been making fun of Joaquin so blatantly. If you saw when they were going away to commercial, Joaquin stood up, faced Letterman, took off his glasses, and started talking to him.

I watched last night. It was totally a stunt, likely for his new documentary (which is supposed to be about an actor breaking down, right?). You can see him start smiling/laughing a few times when he's supposed to be mad.

Oh no, Dave handled a ridiculous situation brilliantly. "Joaquin, I'm sorry you couldn't be here tonight." Hillarious! :lmao:
