Is the experience between night and day very different (not sure how much gets 'lost' at night due to limited visibility.. but are there Christmas lights in the ride itself to kind of offset that some?)? What do folks prefer?
I wouldn't say that anything gets lost due to visibility, but it is different at night than in the day. Definitely take a ride at night if you get a chance!
Awesome! Hopefully we will be able to ride on it twice... in the day and and at night. It's usually a one and done for us per trip, but it would be fun to change it up.

We ride more than once for another reason.
EACH Cruise Skipper is different in her/his spiel and some are absolutely great at their job.
This is the only ride at WDW where the CM host (Skipper) can make the attraction much more special
just by the way they host the trip.

Love Jungle Cruise, love, love, love Jungle Cruise at night. As others have mentioned, the Skipper really makes the ride and I've ridden a couple times later in the evening where the Skipper has gone "off script" and it was an absolute hoot.
On this past trip I did Jingle four times (I used to work there lol). My conclusion is that it's *slightly* more fun at night- it just feels more Christmassy. However, I did get a skipper who was a bit confused about how to operate the lights and so we missed like one scene. That was annoying!
