I made a pricey ressies today for in Aug for this sunset safari tour, which I am looking forward to, now my questions are....do you get a "set" meal at Jiko's or can you chose? also I am a vegetarian who does not seem to see much on the menu, but can loft over to do some chicken.
would love to hear any experiance with this from you all!! thanks..

We did it in January, and we LOVED it! Can't tell you about eating vegetarian, though. We are all meat eaters. You sit at a table with everyone from your tour (12 maybe??...can't remember) They bring you out course after course. They food was fabulous! They also serve different wines with each course...all great! We did not order, they just brought. I was unsure how I would like that at first, but I was so happy about it after. It forced us to try things that we probably would not have tried if we ordered ourselves. I can't remember everything, but they was multiple meat choices. Chicken, beef, pork I believe. No game meats. Everything was so great. I was nervous, because it is NOT CHEAP! But we came out of the experience thinking we got our monies worth. I bet you can request vegetarian fare, and they would have no problem accommodating you. The tour is so great! You will love it. Bring a good camera. You can get some awesome shots!

Edited to add- We did what is called the Wanyama Tour. Maybe it is also called Sunset Safari, but I don't remember that. I a, assuming they are one and the same.

I know! here I am eating at Jiko, and I do not drink...but they have wine pairing, and I do not eat meat...but will do chicken! I think I would pay the amount just for the tour, and I will take part in the wine pairing, doing something I have not done for a while! I did however find a vegetarian menu, so I will mention to them as time gets closer!
sounds fun!! thanks

and yes it is the Wanyama tour!!

Let AKL know and I am sure they will provide vegetarian dishes and non-alcoholic beverages if you prefer those.

The food is *fabulous*. We've done the tour twice.

The chef comes out ahead of time and discusses any food allergies or restrictions with the guests. They seemed very accomodating. They had non-alcoholic options for the kids and non-drinking adults.

This is a very relaxed but classy place and one of my very favorite eating experiences on property. I wouldn't miss it. :cloud9:

Even for less adventurous eaters it is a good deal. The options include steak and mac and cheese. It is all served family style.

I've got some experience as a non-wine drinker at that. If they don't offer, be sure to speak up for a beverage other than wine. All their wine offerings were red wines, which I can't drink, but when I said "No, thank you" the server just started walking away. I had to call her back to see if I could get a soft drink (no problem, but I had to ask). Another non-wine drinker at our table (pregnant) thanked me. They hadn't offered her anything else either, and she hadn't asked until I did.
