For those of you who have been on the safari, would you do both? Would it be a different experience to eat at Jiko seperate from doing the safari? Also, do you tip at the safari? Either the guide or in the restaurant? Thank you.

Has no one been to the Wanyama Safari? Anyone?

We did the safari in March 04. The dinner at Jiko was wonderful! I always say the whole experience is the best money I have ever spent at WDW.

As far as the experience being different.. yes, it is for several reasons.

For the dinner, you are seated with the other folks from your safari. I wasn't sure I would like this, but we had a great time. There is plenty to talk about .. the safari itself, WDW, other restaurants.

The best part of the safari dinner was getting to try all the different foods. There were several things we would not have order, but they served it so ater trying it, we found out we did like it. We had 4 appitizers, 4 main dishes and 4 desserts. The chef coming out before each course was great. We are not big wine drinkers so getting the taste the S. African wines was nice.

As far as tipping, the tip was included at dinner. I am trying to remember if we tipped our guide and I am not sure. She was wonderful though. Her name was Karen and she had worked at AK since it pre -opening and then moved to AKL before its opening.

As far as dining there alone and with the safari, I would not do both on the same trip. But we often go back to Jiko and fondly remember dining there after the safari.

The tip is included for both the safari and dinner. We went on the Wanyana Safari on the first night of our vacation. Later in the week we returned to Jiko. We enjoyed both meals. Jiko is our favorite restaurant at WDW.

I've done both (on separate trips) and they are COMPLETELY different experiences IMO. I am getting ready to do Wanyama for the second time :teeth:
I would heartily recommend trying both safaris. Wanyama is amazing!!
I do tip the server at wanyama separately from the cost but that is NOT required.
Enjoy!
AKL CL is the BEST :cloud9:

I've done both several times - and yes, the experience is totally different --- however the food is the same. You could go to the restaurant and order something different (I would go to the restaurant AFTER the safari for that reason).

Actually, If it were me - I'd do the Wayanama, and then go to another WDW restaurant so that I could experience new and different foods (and atmospheres). I do LOVE Jiko though!!

Oh- regarding tipping the servers at Jiko for the Safari- yes, it's included - but only 15% I think - so if you think your service is worth more, then you can always leave a few extra $$ - We did.
