JIKO Reviews Please!

i had the fillett with mac and cheese and it was AWESOME! i dont eat red meat very often at all but i very much enjoyed it!

What dishes do you love?? I'd be interested in knowing which entrees are especially delicious! :)

Of the dishes I've had the following are my favorites:
  • Prince Edward Island Mussels
  • Seared Ostrich Filet
  • Curried Cauliflower Soup
  • Grilled Berkshire Pork Loin
  • Spiced Crusted Tuna
  • Maize-crusted Pacific Halibut

Now, don't get me wrong, the filet is not bad, it's just nothing exciting, there is nothing really special about the cooking style of the filet and the mac and cheese is not overly deep in flavor (the cheese selection is very mild and too similar). I think it's reputation has been enhanced by the DDP as it is the most expensive item on the menu.

We love Jiko!!! Our meal was amazing as was the service!! Crispy Savannah Rolls were our favorite of the meal!!

We just ate there last Saturday night. Here's my review:

I love Jiko. Last year, I loved my dinner there so much (filet with mac and cheese) that one night when my DH and kids fell asleep early, I snuck down for a late dinner all by myself - I sat at the counter and had another filet!

This time, we took our kids with us - ages 7 and 8.

Service was excellent. The CM helped us order a nice bottle of red wine.

My kids loved their meals - DS had the kids' steak and DD had grilled cheese, which came with strawberries, celery and carrots and some peanut butter dip.

I ordered the filet with mac and cheese again, because I missed it so much. DH ordered it as well. We had the Jiko salad - can't remember the name, but it was mixed greens. It was wonderful.

I have to say, I was a bit disappointed with my meal this time. I ordered my filet medium, but maybe I should have ordered it medium rare. It was not as pink as the last time. Maybe they have a different meaning of "medium" or it was just a bad day in the kitchen. It was still good though, and I ate it all. My second issue was that compared to the picture posted on earlier in this thread, I didn't have nearly as much mac and cheese. Seriously, it was so scant that I bet there weren't 25 noodles. It would have been nice to have a bit more to go with the filet. The sauce for the steak was outstanding.

The one upside to the lack of mac was that I had room for dessert. I loved the pistachio creme brulee. DS and DD shared the "fun do" - which is a cookie, brownie and rice crispie treat, as well as strawberries, with chocolate dipping sauce. The kids loved it!

The kids also got a call from Goofy at the end of dinner - the CM said they had someone who wanted to talk to them. I saw other kids getting the call too - it was a nice touch.

I like the atmosphere there and would definitely eat there again.

I've eaten here three times in the past year & loved each visit!

I have detailed reviews below in my dining reports.

We ate here on our honeymoon last year and loved it! My hubby had the filet, which was good, but I had the coffee braised short ribs which were better! So yummy!!!!!! The flat bread and the mussels were fantastic for apss too. Their wine list is amazing since it's all wines from Africa and the servers were great helping us pick out something both to our taste and that would complement our meals.

The service was wonderful! I am a total klutz and when I inevitable knocked over my wine, our server refilled my glass at no additional charge. Needless to say, he got a great tip!
