Jiko's was so wonderful!
The service, food, and atmosphere was top notch. We started off with a appetizer sampler of Duck and Pork Firecracker, Crispy Cinnamon Spiced Beef Roll, Lentil "Pastilla", and Maize "Tamales". We loved them all even the kids! We got it for 2 people to share with the kids. Every last bite was gone! My son was trying to get every last bit of the Maize out of the corn husk! The bread that came with the meal with the yummy sweet butter was so good! For entree's my DH had the Pan Roasted Monkfish. He loved it! I had the Pomegrante Glazed Quails! It was so creative in taste and presentation! Kinda like a sweet and sour thing going on. I couldn't finish it all because it was a rather large portion. I wanted to though! My DD had the Grilled Filet of Beef off the kids menu and really loved it! She said it was much better than the steak at CA Grill. It didn't need a sauce because it was flavored wonderfully. ( she could cut it with a fork!) My son got the Grilled Cheese. He said it was good but not good as moms!
He finished it all and loved the cheddar squiggles that came with it!
For dessert my DH had the Tanzanian Chocoalte Candies. He loved the beggars purses but didn't like the red looking sauce. I tasted it, it was kinda of spicy. I had some kind of chocolate cake with peanut butter ice cream. The cake was kinda of dry but with the ice cream it was good. My kids had the Jiko's Kid Puzzle with mini banana split. They loved it but couldn't finish it all. They took the puzzle home for later! This was a great meal. It was very creative and oh, yeah, the WINE was excellent! ( how could I forget) They let me and DH have a taste before we ordered it by the glass. I don't remember the name but it was a chardonnay. I had a glass from the bar that was also very good. Probably the best wine our enitire trip. I really need to check into the African wines! This is now a must do for our next future trip!
