Jiko Question

After looking at the Jiko menu on allearsnet, I love how each of the items from the "cooking place" sound, but they all appear to be appetizer size (based on price). Is this correct? If so, has anyone ever gone and eaten "tapas-style?" This menu looks like it could really be conducive to lots of little plates instead of the usual appetizer, entree, dessert arrangement.

On Allears, The "From the cooking place" section is the Appetizers. The section listed as "Appetizers" is more the soups and salads sections.

We love Jiko and have been several times. We usually do 2 things "from the cooking place" and then entrees. Or we do entrees and then 2 things from the desserts. Everything there is wonderful. It is one of my favorite resturants...

My favorite. Although, I would have loved it on the Concierge's Level instead of the 1st floor.

The apps are wonderful. The filet mignon over mac and cheese is brilliant. I've had about 30 meals there and none were a disappointment. Apps run under $10 each and dinners are about $25-30/each.

We almost *always* go tapas style! Our usual order would be an appetizer sampler for two, a flatbread, and the dessert sampler. It's a fabulous meal. Sometimes we'll order the Taste of Africa as well and only do one dessert. With wine, it ends up coming out as much as a regular meal.

Any chance you remember what was on the samplers? And the price? This sounds like something I would like to do. :flower:

Of course :) We get it so often, I know it by heart.

It's $10/person, with a two person minimum. I think they do up to six people. For two, it includes one duck and pork firecracker, two lamb patis, two lentil pastilla, and one tamale - basically half of each whole appetizer. It comes with the sauces that accompany each appetizer as well. It's not on the menu, but just ask for it.

Thank you. :) Do you think it would be possible to get it for myself, I'm solo, and just pay $20.00?

Oh, yes, just ask for a two person appetizer sampler. I guess I didn't mean it as you had to have two people, really more that you have to have a minimum of two "portions." We've considered doing a three person one as an entree to split and were told that was fine.

Thanks, Forever42. I didn't know there was such an appetizer "sampler" as it is not listed on the menu on Deb's site. That makes this place look more attractive price-wise. I'll call and see if I could get an ADR for our upcoming trip.
