If you were only going to one, which would you choose?

And what are your favorite entrees at either one?

I prefer Boma. I like being able to try a little bit of everything. The soups are especially good, and so are the desserts! It's not fun when it's very crowded, though, so that's a drawback.

I love the atmosphere at Jiko. It's less noisy and hectic and feels a bit more upscale. I don't find the menu as appealing, though, and at a place with more "exotic" choices I like to sample things rather than commit to just one entree. I've only eaten there once and chose a flatbread that I didn't particularly love. Way too much cilantro! :scared: The rest of my party chose the lamb and loved it, though.

So, for me, it's a choice between food and atmosphere. And I always choose food.

Jiko, hands down!!
The lamb shank is excellent--as is the bbq chicken flatbread.

I haven't tried Boma, but I loved Jiko. The filet and the mac & cheese is the bomb!

I noticed the mac & cheese on the menu. Somehow I just don't equate Africa with mac & cheese. Kraft or Velveeta?:rotfl:

I like Boma better, even though I'm not usually a fan of buffets. I've been to Jiko twice, and both times have been under-whelmed.

The answer:

It depends.

I love both places...but for different reasons.

Jiko is a fine dining establishment.....so if that's what you're looking for, go for it. The food is out of this world (though pricey), and is meant to be enjoyed. It's also, IMHO, a nice romantic spot for a night out with the significant other, or to celebrate a special occasion.

Boma's is the best buffet I've ever eaten at....but, IMHO, the food is not as good as it is a Jiko's (but then, IMHO, the only place on Disney property that's any better than Jiko's is Victoria and Alberts). Then again, the atmosphere is a lot more laid back and the prices are a lot lower, too. :) There's LOTS of variety, which is just a wonderful excuse to try lots of stuff.

We try to do both....but when push comes to shove....we end up choosing Bomas. That speaks more to how family friendly we find Boma's to be (not that Jiko's NOT....just less so, IMHO), rather than anything else. If you asked me to simply choose my favorite, I'd say Jikos.

As it's usually an adult group when we are travelling Jiko is our top choice. Adore the filet with mac and cheese and in 3 trips, this is the only entree I've gotten, though I plan to try the lamb in October.

Boma is wonderful too, and we'll be headed there for the second time this trip, along with trying it for breakfast a couple of times.

With these two I can't see you losing on the food front so the question is more what kind of atmosphere are you looking for.

I vote for Jiko

It's not your average mac & cheese. Special cheeses from Africa are flown in to make it. The filet and mac & cheese is my favorite.

Jiko hands down. The mac-n-cheese is not your average mac-n-cheese. Not to mention the flatbreads and lamp app was delicious. Dh loves his scallops too.

I'm not a big fan of Boma. We've eaten there several times and the food just wasn't all that for us. I would rather have one app, one entree that is outstanding then several just okay dishes.

Depends for us.

Adult only meal, it's JIKO. It's a long relaxing meal with great food. We usually split the appetizers and get the Taste of Africa and the sampler. Entrees that we like are the filet and the short ribs. Last time DH got the chicken and said it was way too spicy. I have not enjoyed any of the fish dishes I've had there.

When taking the family, it's BOMA. I'm more comfortable with children here (JIKO is pretty adult) and the picky eaters can find plenty that they like. My favorites are the prime rib, the coconut curry soup and this pasta salad that I don't know the name.
