So... AllEars has just posted a new Jiko menu. It doesn't look all that appealing to me... but I am still determined to go because I just love the place. Would you feel the same if nothing really jumped out at you? I do love halibut, so I'll probably have that, but maize crusted doesn't really speak to me. I know I probably shouldn't be disappointed before even having my meal, but I am a little bummed.

don't count on that posted menu as being correct...our experience has been that either Disney changes the menus constantly or allears is not posting current menus. Both May & September of this year there were quite a few menu differences, even in menus that were said to be updated the same month we went.

The new menu seems to match what the menu we saw in Sept. so I suspect it's been around for awhile.

My first visit to Jiko a couple of years ago I got the Grains, Peas and Barley dish that is now gone. It was my favourite meal in all of wdw and we went back specifically expecting good vegetarian options.

We discovered that there's a hidden vegetarian menu--you have to know to ask for it. I'd recommend that anyone looking for additional options ask about it since it had items that weren't on the regular menu.

There was an entree with tofu, which is always a plus at wdw, but, it was spiced in a manner that I've come to associate with chefs who are meat eaters and don't understand how to properly adapt to vegetarian dishes. Overall, I was very disappointed by the new Jiko.

I had learned that my favourite entree was gone just before we went, and had a similar disappointment to yours--nothing looked interesting. I went anyway because I'd had such a great meal there before, but, ended up disappointed.

On the other hand, my DW says that her meal (at Jiko) was the best she had the whole trip.

The maize-crusted halibut is my favorite dish at Jiko. The tomato butter sauce is scrumptious and the crispy sweet potatoes on top are so good. I"m so glad it's still on the menu!

I do not count on the menus from Allears.....over a month ago I emailed them the new menus for SAI, Tutto and Kona and they still have not changed them on their website

Wow, that's surprising. You would think they would be thrilled to have that info! I always check the menus there and love it when they are updated.

I just looked at the updated menu and it doesn't look much different than the last one that was posted. OP what is missing that you were thinking of choosing prior to the update?

Did you send them digital pictures of the menus? They told me that they will only change their menus if they have a copy of the actual menu (paper or digital picture)--not from email that has typed it in.

Yes the pics and the date on them too

Tell me more about this hidden vegetarian menu!

Huh...weird!

Tell me more about this hidden vegetarian menu!

Well, I discovered it quite by accident. On my first visit I'd simply said I was vegetarian and could only eat food that was completely vegetarian. I wasn't offered a vegetarian menu then.

Since then, I figured out my reactions better (not actually a pleasant thing to isolate) and I can now identify that I'm allergic to chicken and have extreme intolerances to other meats. (I can eat dairy, eggs, and fish). So, I listed my allergies as such on my ADR. Then, I also called the restaurant and asked for a chef to call me. The chef who called said that they always have tofu in the restaurant for vegetarian diners.

Well, we arrived at Jiko, they confirmed my allergy at check-in, we were seated and the server started talking to me about fish dishes. (There was nothing with tofu on the menu.) I did some thinking about what flavours and sides I might want and then asked the server if I could speak to the chef because I'd rather have something vegetarian than fish. He said, "oh, I'll get you a vegetarian menu then--everything on it is guaranteed to be 100% vegetarian without any trace contacts." (Note: it also identified which items were vegan.)

The vegetarian menu listed the vegetarian items from the main menu (2-3 appetizers, 1 entree, most desserts), but, also had a couple of other options. I think it had 4 entrees total and I think 2 of them had tofu in them.

Unfortunately, this was at the end of my trip so I only got the chance to ask if they had a vegetarian menu at one more restaurant and have no idea if this hidden menu is a common thing at wdw. (Note: Raglan Road was the other restaurant and not only did they not have a vegetarian menu, but, they have also moved their salads into the "entree" category and now have NO vegetarian appetizers.)

Sci-Fi also has a decent tofu meal available on their lunch menu. I've heard that it's not on their dinner menu, but, that they will often make it at dinner if you know to ask for it.

We last went to Jiko in 10/07 and the new menu seems to have a lot of the same items as were available a year ago. I have had the halibut...it's fantastic!

Honestly, I don't remember exactly what it was... probably some kind of fish/seafood dish. But it sounds like the Halibut won't disappoint me, and I do LOVE halibut, so I bet I'll be happy if that's what I order.

Jiko is my favorite restaurant at WDW, but I'm not a seafood person. The short rib is my favorite, followed by the filet and the pork tenderloin. I love the soups and was excited to see the corn soup on the menu at this time. I hope you like it even half as much as I do

Just went to Jiko last week & the menu on AllEars looks correct.

DS19 & I love the short ribs & DH likes the filet & also the tuna.
As for app's we had: the cheese sampler, taste of Africa (dips & naan) & the duck confit salad (easily serves two!) All very good.
